Last week we saw the Proud Boys in LA using a "Recall Newsom / anti-mask / anti-vaxx" rally as an opportunity to initiate street fighting (captured on video) with people who support Newsom, support PH measures (including masks, vaccinations) to counter COVID. Not 30 yards away from a police station. No arrests, even re the (video'd) stabbing. LA police issued a tepid press release describing how "fighting broke out" between Antifa (!) and some rally goers. Ahem.
Set this beside parents physically assaulting teachers who enforce mask rules at schools (I've seen a couple such news reports), etc etc. And video of a self-described combat vet with 3 tours of service warning in a school board public meeting that there are "millions" like him who are getting to the point where they feel that taking up arms to forcibly deny mask protocols is going to be the only way forwards.
This isn't about masks. It isn't about Newsom. It isn't about vaccines. It's about Trumpism. It's about the ever-more-inflamed sense of grievance and betrayal which the OAN and FOX and etc. media lines are stoking. All these alleged instances of tyranny are proximate, are interchangeable, are irrelevant. They provide the hook on which to hang the underlying and inchoate sense of grievance, fear, and loss. It is a very well established playbook, used by authoritarians to attempt to catalyze the violent usurpation of power for at least 150 years.
The content of the day changes, but the themes - and the roadmap - don't.
