The Republican National Committee has removed a webpage from 2020 in which it praised Donald Trump for signing a "historic peace agreement with the Taliban." This was noticed by The Washington Post's Dave Weigel.

Not so quietly, Curt. The progressive SwampMedia was all over that like flies on $hit.

So, Trump was wrong. But, Joe chose to adopt his policy when he overturned most others. And, Joe executed the plan disastrously.

Sooner or later, perhaps by now, people aren't going to care about Trump's failures. Afghanistan is Joe's disaster. What will you Trumpaphobes do then? You're going to have to figure that out,...like yesterday.

  2. by Donna on August 16, 2021 9:13 am
The president isn't in charge of executing withdrawal plans from wars. The generals do that.

In the end, most Americans won't care what Trump or Biden did or didn't do right regarding Afghanistan. Americans re-elected Nixon in the middle of a very unpopular war that was riddled with mistakes, and they also re-elected George Bush in a war that the Bush Administration re-assured everyone would only last a few months.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 9:28 am

The President, Donna, is the Commander in Chief. He's at the top of the chain of command. Joe is being held responsible for this debacle and he should be.

Nixon was reelected in 1972. Saigon had not yet fallen. Not even close.

  4. by Curt Anderson on August 16, 2021 9:36 am
    HtS,
But you said "Joe's not to blame."

So why did Trump wait his entire presidency to announce the popular part of the plan, namely the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, but timed so he wouldn't necessarily be around for the actual execution of the withdrawal?

  5. by Donna on August 16, 2021 9:44 am
What I said stands notwithstanding the stiffy you're sporting. You want Biden and the Democrats to suffer the consequences in the polls and in the coming elections, but in America, historically foreign policy issues haven't mattered.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 9:46 am

Right, Curt. I don't blame Joe. He thinks he used to drive an 18 wheeler. He's living in an alternate reality. I don't blame him but, your apology notwithstanding, you made Joe responsible.

Why did Trump schedule the withdrawal after he left office?

C'mon man, gimme a break! He was convinced that he'd be reelected. He still thinks that he was. And, so do nearly half of likely voters.

While I opposed the withdrawal, I'm confident that if Trump's gang executed it, what's happening now would not have happened.

  7. by Donna on August 16, 2021 9:48 am
We already saw Trump-style withdrawal when he threw our allies, the Kurds, under the bus.

  8. by Donna on August 16, 2021 9:49 am
Most Americans didn't care about that either.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 9:53 am

I disagree Donna. Read the press. Watch the SwampMedia today. This debacle is being viewed as historically disastrous.

  10. by Donna on August 16, 2021 9:57 am
Well then you hang onto that hope.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 10:06 am

As I wrote earlier, Donna, I began my day checking out what was going on on MSNBC. Later, I dashed over to Fox. The tone was the same on both! This is a rare day.

I see. So pb, Biden has handled the situation disastrously, but you can in no way describe what it is that he did that h3e shouldn't have done? Still wallowing in abject lameness as much as ever I see.

There was no way this was going to end any differently regardless of who was president when we pulled out of Afghanistan. You can spend eternity sweeping an inch of water towards the other side of the room, but when you stop sweeping and leave, the water is going to just flow right back.

Tell us, O Wise One, what Biden should have done differently so that the Taliban wouldn't just flow right back to where they left off.....

  14. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 10:25 am
    Whoa!

    Forget the specifics.

    WELCOME, po!!!!!

  15. by Ponderer on August 16, 2021 10:36 am
Thanks, Curt. Don't know how much I'll be posting in here though. So far I detest this setup. Kinda what's kept me away for so long.

Well that, and coming to grips with what a complete waste of time arguing with willfully ignorant cultists like pb is.

  16. by Ponderer on August 16, 2021 10:37 am
I entered no htlm code to make that last comment bold. What the heck kindava joint are you running here, Curt?

  17. by Curt Anderson on August 16, 2021 10:47 am
    Ponderer,
In his excitement, HtS forgot to use a close bold tag. I fixed it.

  18. by HatetheSwamp on August 16, 2021 10:47 am

    "Thanks, Curt." ????? Huh!!!!!!

    po,

You think that only I and a few right wingnuts see this as Joe's disaster?

I linked to an effin CNN article last week blaming Joe for this...and that was before Kabul fell at the speed of light.

Check out: Biden’s Betrayal of Afghans Will Live in Infamy, by George Packer in The Atlantic

    The effin Atlantic!!!!!

"... our abandonment of the Afghans who helped us, counted on us, staked their lives on us, is a final, gratuitous shame that we could have avoided. The Biden administration failed to heed the warnings on Afghanistan, failed to act with urgency—and its failure has left tens of thousands of Afghans to a terrible fate. This betrayal will live in infamy. The burden of shame falls on President Joe Biden."

    This sentiment is typical today.

    Re: The SELECTSMART POST

I still prefer the old forum, but you get used to this after a while.

  19. by Curt Anderson on August 16, 2021 10:58 am
Incidentally, the old forum crashed after we departed. I am upgrading the entire site to be SSL compliant. Which the old format never could be.

For all it's faults, with this format, at least I can fix and address problems as I see them. Not to mention I can be more creative, that is exercise my own personal taste, and add features, change the look, etc.

  20. by Donna on August 16, 2021 11:05 am
Hts - Maybe you'll get lucky and the Taliban will launch a 9/11 attack on the US before our next presidential election.

  21. by Donna on August 16, 2021 11:24 am
Part of Trump's historic agreement was freeing from prison the new president of Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Paradar.

Sorry, pb. As I have mentioned, I don't like this setup. Pages full of text like the way this is set up are incredibly difficult for me to navigate. It's like a combination of dyslexia and tunnel vision in a way. I thought it was Curt's post.

If people could spend five minutes seeing the world as I have to see it through these two f*cked up excuses for human eyes, they'd wonder how the hell I have managed it for the last fifty years. And it's been getting worse over the last four or five years.

  24. by Ponderer on August 16, 2021 5:22 pm
    Curt, I'll make due.

  25. by Curt Anderson on August 16, 2021 5:59 pm
    Ponderer et al,
Don't hesitate to offer suggestions or point out glitches. I already addressed the issue of where HtS didn't use a close bold tag and it affected your post. I may not be able to do all of them but unlike the old forum at least I can do some of them.

  26. by HatetheSwamp on August 18, 2021 5:54 am

    po,

If people could spend five minutes seeing the world as I have to see it through these two f*cked up excuses for human eyes, they'd wonder how the hell I have managed it for the last fifty years. And it's been getting worse over the last four or five years.

I'm dyslexic too. It's been a constant struggle.

I can only say that, as far as The Selectsmart Post is concerned, I got more comfortable through much trial and error. It's definitely not as user friendly as the old forum and it lacks some of my favorite features of the old way. But, I can now use this fairly comfortably.

And, I thank Curt for providing this for us.

    Thanks, Curt!
