U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett said he was hit with a literal "sucker punch" by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in a hallway on Capitol Hill as lawmakers are fast approaching another deadline to keep the government funded.
"You don't expect a guy who was, at one time, three steps away from the White House to hit you with a sucker punch," Burchett told Knox News. "It's just an unfortunate situation and I feel sorry for him. ... It's a sad commentary on (McCarthy) and his career."
McCarthy denied it.
The congressmen aren't fans of one another. Burchett was one of the "Gaetz Eight" who successfully voted to oust McCarthy from the speakership last month.
