Included are more than thirty possible candidates. These are names which have appeared on the lists of political pundits and even British betting sites. Some of these people are already acting like presidential candidates but not expressly announcing they plan to run for president.
On the Republican side, potential candidates are anxiously waiting to see what Donald Trump will do. On the Democratic side, Biden is the presumptive nominee but I included a couple of other Democrats--just in case. The presidential election is more than three years away, and lot can happen between now and then. Both Trump and Biden are getting on in years. Trump is currently threatened with more than one legal action.
In determining which questions and issues to include, I looked at polls in which people listed the issues that they deemed the most important. As has happened every election cycle since my first presidential candidate selector in 2000, new issues arise. Four years ago Coronavirus wasn't an issue. I added it early last year to the 2020 Presidential Candidate Selector.
For each candidate I researched interest group ratings, endorsements they received, their public statements and votes to determine their views on dozens of issues. When I couldn't find any information about a candidate's position on an issue, I didn't give them any points nor subtract any points.
When you get your results, click the information icon next to their name. I have capsulized their political positions which relate directly to questions found in the selector. Incidentally, I intend to post articles here about the candidates with an emphasis on their political positions.
