Last night we saw "The Sound of Freedom." It has nothing to do with left wing/right wing. Like I have argued before, I've (unwittingly) rescued those enslaved in the US. Normally, we didn't go looking for them, but we just "found them." According to the UN there are 50 MILLION ENSLAVED PEOPLE AND IT'S GROWING EVERY DAY. Compared to 2016 global estimates, 10 million more people were in modern slavery in 2021, with women and children disproportionately vulnerable. So to curt. This is what I've been talking about. You, above all on your sanctimony, need to view this. Honestly, if you don't. You are just proving that you (and your wife) have absolutely no humanity left in you.

Modern slavery occurs in almost every country in the world and cuts across ethnic, cultural and religious lines. There is more human slavery now than when slavery was "legal." What's funny is that them dimmycrats are still defending human slavery. Today. 2023. Do you get that po?

More than half of all forced labour and a quarter of all forced marriages can be found in upper-middle-income or high-income countries.

This is not a "religion" issue. It is not a "race" issue. It is not a "geographical" issue. It is a human issue.
The number of people currently enslaved in the world has grown by 10 million in the last five years, researchers from Geneva reported Monday.

The U.N.'s International Organization for Migration partnered with the International Labor Organization and the Walk Free Foundation, a human rights group, to produce the latest estimates of modern slavery.

That term refers to a spectrum of exploitative practices like forced labor, forced marriage and human trafficking. As of 2021, 50 million people were estimated to endure such conditions. Some form of modern slavery exists in nearly every country in the world, the report found.

Although modern versions of enslavement appear slightly different from historical examples, the two are interconnected, authors of the report said.

"In a number of ways, slavery has adapted and changed and shape shifted, but exploitation is still occurring on an unprecedented scale," Grace Forrest, the founder of Walk Free Foundation, told NPR.

"There is no region of the world that is immune to modern slavery."

The global estimates were the result of surveying tens of thousands of survivors of modern slavery over 68 countries along with research.

So for those who "say" they're "against human trafficking and child exploitation, I dare you to see the movie, based on a true story.

My wife and I paid forward six tickets just for members of this blog. Lead, I'm sorry, but we excluded you because we feel you'll see it anyway. If you want tickets, email me. We'll provide them. I'd be happy to do that. We've provided for our family and their friends just because this is about freedom. This is about keeping people out of slavery.

Both of us (my wife and I) have seen the evidence and have worked with human slaves. My wife has worked with "les burros" that carried drugs into the US and got caught. and also a "collector" They were taken from their homes, put into slavery, and told their families would be murdered in the worst ways, (which without living in the culture, you have no idea what that means).

If you don't act on this. NEVER talk shit about caring about other human beings in your life on this site. I don't care what you say.

Donna and I went and saw "Asteroid City" yesterday. I really liked a lot of things about it, but on the whole, I felt somewhat disappointed by it. It's a wacky ride. But like a roller coaster, it doesn't really go anywhere.

I hope you take me up on a free offer then. Honestly.

  6. by Curt_Anderson on July 18, 2023 10:07 pm
That offer is very kind of you, OD. We are leaving for a vacation Thursday. I did take a quick look to see if it was available on any of the streaming services we use hoping we might watch it while traveling or more likely when we get back. It's not on any service we use, but I found this out: Angel Studios has its own streaming service that is free to use. As it states on its website the company uses a "Pay It Forward" strategy. See link.

Btw, I know that there are child sex traffickers and other terrible people in the world. I just don't agree with those who would use that as an excuse to prevent asylum seekers and other immigrants who want to escape exploitation, corruption, crime and poverty from seeking a better life in America.

    From Rotten Tomatoes:
A blandly competent thriller that finds an easy way into your feelings since it deals with child trafficking (a grave subject matter that has been tragically co-opted as a rallying cry for xenophobic, pro-Trump types).

Exactly what I imagined as I was reading OD’s review. Like they made Remember the Titans based on child trafficking instead of high school football.

    —————————————-

Just watched Asteroid City tonight. I salute them for making a uniquely different film - there’s not enough of that these days. I was really looking forward to it based on the trailer, but the story was easily outshined by the production. I haven’t seen too much of Wes Anderson’s work - think Isle of Dogs was the only one before AC. Both plots seemed a little flat to me - like half realized stories. He might need a bit more experience before he makes something amazing.

  8. by Indy! on July 19, 2023 12:48 am

Forgot… OD - can I get a free ticket? I want to use it to theater hop over to see The Flash. Can you hook a brother up? 🤔

  9. by Ponderer on July 19, 2023 7:34 am

I know what you mean, Indy!. I actually loved each and every component of the film. The directing, the performances, the cast, the style, the absurdity, the hidden laughs, the daring, the cinematography... But when I took it all in together as a whole, I just couldn't love the film itself.

For me, it just all managed to work out to be lesser than the sum of its parts somehow.

  10. by Ponderer on July 19, 2023 7:47 am

"Btw, I know that there are child sex traffickers and other terrible people in the world. Quite agree, Curt. I have no doubt that the subject of this film is a tremendously serious and desperate state of affairs for too many humans in this world. I wouldn't mind seeing this film myself.

It just saddens me though, as I am sure it does you, that the only times that most conservatives will acknowledge such human tragedy is when they can use it to achieve some sociopathic goal or other. It's a classic and well worn tactic they have.

  11. by Ponderer on July 19, 2023 7:53 am

olde dude, we'd love to take you up on your kind offer. And thank you for the thought.

How do we go about seeing it by means of your largess?

  12. by oldedude on July 19, 2023 10:26 am
It just saddens me though, as I am sure it does you, that the only times that most conservatives will acknowledge such human tragedy is when they can use it to achieve some sociopathic goal or other. It's a classic and well worn tactic they have.

I've been on this for a few years now. And curt mocks the idea and pushes it to the side as an "unfortunate biproduct of letting everyone come through the border as they want." He has always defended the human trafficking after I've told him the stats and knowns in this industry. He will say, "of course i'm not for human trafficking, but I don't think there should be a restriction on illegal entry into the US."

This has happened enough that it sickens me. And I've told him so, and he still skirts the issue.

As usual, the dimmycrats are for this slavery and not willing to do anything about it. So you want an issue that is recent and valid? Human slavery is now bigger than it was when slavery was legal. It's neck and neck with the multi-billion dollar drug trade. Except here, you buy a kg, sell it, and it's gone. You buy a six year old, and have him go to work, you get the cost of .5kg per day, 7 days a week, until he mistakenly or purposefully commits suicide, or gets enough stds he's worthless. Then you just kill him and throw his body in a ditch or dumpster. He's untraceable so nothing comes back to you. If that doesn't happen, you sell him to stomp coca leaves until the lye kills him.

  13. by Indy! on July 19, 2023 5:36 pm

Pondy - yeah, lot of kooky stuff in the movie - like the billboard featuring the desert scene that was the actual desert directly behind it. But that's exactly how I felt too - I really wanted to love it, but it just never came together for me. In that respect it reminded me of some of Tim Burton's later films. I was so looking forward to Dark Shadows and he hit all the right notes from start to finish, but in the end it felt hollow. It didn't have that Tim Burton punch like Edward Scissorhands or his Batmans.

  14. by oldedude on July 19, 2023 7:35 pm
So this is one of those people that can't recognize what is supposed to impact the viewer, and rather chicken shits the movie through technical bullsht. maybe it reminds him? too much of his youth since 8 yo.

  19. by oldedude on July 21, 2023 9:04 pm
Yeah, so I'm waiting for the wokesters to completely change their opinion of the movie. Except for indy, who didn't watch it and just deflects.

Here's the issue. Do they stick with the wokester propaganda? or do they stick to what they said. I'm not laying any money on this at all as a group. curt will (as always) be the good german, po will cuss, I think Donna will be reflective and have something worth reading.

  20. by Indy! on July 22, 2023 1:58 am

You wouldn’t give a ticket, so how is a starving artist supposed to see it, OD?

  21. by oldedude on July 22, 2023 6:30 am
click on this site. On the lower, right side there's a white hotkey. Click. You can get tickets free.

Of all the folks here, I figured you would be the one that would look for someone else to pay your way.

I thought of Po and Donna when I did this. They've both worked their butts off just trying to make it. They wouldn't ask for the handout, but I would really like to support them. Not a feel good movie, but maybe a way to get out of the house. So this is why the "Pay It Forward" was created. Angel Studios does this for most of their films. It's a thing with them.

  25. by Indy! on July 22, 2023 11:50 am

Just read peebs NPR link. So this is one of those conservative "blockbusters" like their "best selling" wingnutty books. They come up with a fairy tale that appeals to the lowest common denominators on the right and then get people who "buy into it" to literally "buy in" at the box office and "pay forward" tickets to other rightwingers with no cash. Ann Coulter has used this same model to "sell" millions of books - she gets rightwing orgs to purchase blocks of her books to give away thereby creating the appearance that her books are big sellers when really the number of actual buyers (people actually spending the cash) have no relation to the numbers they put up in the NYT Bestseller list. They even have Jim Caviezel pimping this process at the end of the film (which apparently is as much a fairy tale as it is "based on a true story")

The film, based on a real-life controversial anti-trafficking activist, is being heavily promoted in conservative media...

...And a big part of its success is an appeal from its star, Jim Caviezel, who comes on screen at the end urging viewers to buy more tickets so other people can see it.

Caviezel is drawing attention to the film in other ways. For years, he's been a prominent promoter of the false, violent QAnon conspiracy theory, specifically the claim that an international cabal of elites is abusing and killing children to extract a substance called adrenochrome. These wild claims have become deeply enmeshed with narratives about child trafficking, and Caviezel is pushing them on his press tour.

Angel Studios, the film's distributor, publicly rejects any association with conspiracies. So do Tim Ballard, the former federal agent Caviezel's character is based on, and his organization Operation Underground Railroad. They all declined or didn't respond to my interview requests. But recently, Ballard claimed adrenochrome harvesting is real.

PS: Is anyone surprised OD is QAnon? 😂

  28. by Indy! on July 22, 2023 3:29 pm

Putting aside your usual delusions and strangely persistent obsession with pedophilia for the time being, Old Dud... let's just stick to some of the actual facts for once, okay?

    1) I didn't post the NPR story - peebs did. Ooops.

    2) It's no surprise you think your Epoch Times (🙄) video is a "fair evaluation" because it's filled with the usual lies and rightwing QAnon disinformation candy you Fox hound MAGAts love to hear because you think it justifies your crazy. To whit...

    - Sound of Freedom was NOT a "limited release" film. It's in more theaters than big studio films like Indiana Jones, Insidious and Elemental.

    - SoF has also not brought in more than Indiana Jones - in fact it's brought in about 33% less despite being in more theaters and the fact the QAnon crowd buying free tickets to get more people in the theater to see and hear the latest Trumper crowd's crackpot conspiracy theory.

    Bullshit.

“Sound of Freedom” opened last Tuesday, generating a mighty $14.2 million on the Independence Day holiday. The film picked up another $18.2 million between Friday and Sunday, enough to place third on domestic box office charts behind “Insidious: The Red Door” ($32.6 million) and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” ($26.5 million). It’s playing in 2,850 North American theaters, a smaller footprint than “Insidious” and “Indiana Jones (3,188 theaters and 4,600 theaters, respectively).

“As with our July 4th numbers, today’s numbers exceed our expectations, and we’re going to continue this momentum,” said Brandon Purdie, head of theatrical distribution at Angel Studios, the independent studio that’s backing the film, in a statement. “We’re getting messages from all over the country telling us about packed theaters, sold-out theaters and spontaneous standing ovations for the film in numerous locations. Seeing this film has become a must, thanks to incredible word-of-mouth.”

Purdie also thanked AMC, Cinemark and Regal, which are three of the biggest movie theater chains in the country, for “having the courage to release ‘Sound of Freedom’ during the busiest movie season of the year.”

Disney had it sitting on their shelf for five years but refused to release it. Angel Studios got it back and released it how they could. Smaller footprint initially and watched. Obviously, something worked. Especially for Indy, who watched something else because he doesn't have the integrity not to rip someone off. But he used the ticket for Sound of Freedom... All of our thanks.

  30. by Indy! on July 22, 2023 4:24 pm

I already told you how it "worked" and it's confirmed in every source in this thread talking about the movie. They had a considerable pre-movie push to sell tickets to GIVE AWAY and have continued with that push during it's release. IOW - the big money guys who want to make this movie popular (read: the people who buy into your conspiracy) - bought up a lot of tickets and gave them away. You got yours free and then you brought the story here to give away more tickets on this board. Of course a movie is going to be "popular" if the tickets are FREE, Old Dud. And not to further rain on the parade, but just because the tickets were purchased does NOT mean people are even seeing the movie. I have a mind to grab a couple tickets to get into the theater and watch something else I WANT to see for free. Movie clubs have gone out of business because of people theater hopping or letting other people use their cards. For all we know half those people who "saw" Sound of Freedom actually saw Indiana Jones or (god forbid)... The Little Mermaid. 😳

  31. by oldedude on July 22, 2023 5:22 pm
The tickets are paid for. Every one of them. So they're not "free" tickets. People felt compelled to have other people see it. Especially because wokesters like you would love to see it fail because you might get caught having sex with little kids.

  32. by Indy! on July 22, 2023 7:47 pm

So far as the tickets - there's a big difference between people wanting to go see the film on their own or going only because someone is paying for their ticket. If you can't figure that one out - again - I would not be surprised. 😂

  33. by oldedude on July 23, 2023 3:42 am
I guess if I were used to living off the kindness of others, and were a leach on society, I might understand this would be a "norm."

Yes, do I think there are people going that might have not? of course. That's why this system exists. That's why we donated our tickets. We understand that we are truly fortunate at this stage of our lives. We are willing to give to others and share. We also understand there are people all around us that would like the opportunity to go out for a night that aren't as fortunate as we are. And the message needs to be put out there.

That's why I posted this. Some didn't answer. Curt politely declined (an excellent gesture!). Donna & Po were happy for the offer, and you specifically gamed the system, lied and deceived to see another movie. All of these "answers" were in line with what I thought would happen. I was disappointed more in you. I guess a serpent can only shed its skin, but underneath it's still a serpent.

  34. by Indy! on July 23, 2023 11:46 am

What a shame I don't live my life to please you, OD. And let's keep in mind - one of us joined the army to bomb brown people while I have done nothing except contribute art to the world to make it a more beautiful place. But oh yeah - you donated movie tickets. Righteous. 🙄

  35. by oldedude on July 23, 2023 12:42 pm
It wasn't the army dumbass. I've told you what I did several times. I actually saved lives. I was in two of the Indian seasonal floods, a couple of typhoons, saving lives, and rescuing people while you were smoking whomever, chasing your crackhead mama around trying to get a piece of her. I've lived on three continents. You "visited" a couple of countries for a whole 30 day stretch. You have zero credible attributes. You don't have a real life and you sponge off of anyone and everyone you can for anything you can get. And those are the best things I can say about you.
