It appears the orange hued albatross is with the GOP for at least a little while longer. —Curt

A Morning Consult poll released Wednesday showed Trump with 48 percent support among potential Republican primary voters, followed by DeSantis with 31 percent. Trump’s front-runner position differs from some polls since the November midterm elections, which have shown DeSantis closing the gap with Trump or taking a lead in some cases.

Former Vice President Mike Pence came in third with 8 percent, followed by former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) with 3 percent. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) both received 2 percent.

Speaking of DeSantis, he appears to be heading into legal hot water as a result of trafficking those asylum seekers.

Leon County Circuit Court Judge John C. Cooper set a Jan. 30 trial date to hear the case brought on by Florida state Sen. Jason Pizzo (D), who accused the governor of unlawfully using taxpayer money to fly nearly 50 undocumented migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard last September.

DeSantis' lawyers attempted to get the case from Pizzo, who is suing as a private citizen, tossed out.

Pizzo sued DeSantis and other state officials over their effort to transport migrants, saying it violated the state program because the migrants were not in the country illegally and their flight did not originate in Florida.

At least two other lawsuits have been filed over the matter.

The Florida Department of Transportation paid the aviation company that conducted the migrant flights nearly $1.6 million.

The state may also end up paying up to $1 million to defend itself in a class action filed by the migrants.

Oh. I thought he'd been tried and convicted of something. What's he facing 10? 15 years?

Nothing so serious as that. He's just facing charges of misappropriation of government funds in civil court. Being a prick in itself is not a crime.

Btw HtS, do you remember when you couldn't believe that DeSantis was flying immigrants out of Texas and not Florida?

    Briefly.

So it's nothing more than a worthless political stunt without teeth. Got it.

If he's wrong, so is Polis (D), CO. The dims do some really low (even for southern politics) things to DeSantis. On March 9, 2022, the law passed; YEAS 77, NAYS 42. The state legislature already agreed to the money being spent. Pizzo doesn't even have the stones to act within his position in the legislature and do this in a way to question the law. So really, who's the elitist prick (as usual, it's the dim/liberal).

Lawmakers included $12 million in the budget for the Department of Transportation to carry out a “program to facilitate the transport of unauthorized aliens from this state.” The DeSantis administration used $615,000 of that money to pay Vertol Systems Company, Inc. to transport two planeloads of migrants on Sept. 14 from San Antonio, Texas, to Martha’s Vineyard, with a stop in the Northwest Florida community of Crestview.

The budget fine print included additional details, such as saying the Department of Transportation “may, upon the receipt of at least two quotes, negotiate and enter into contracts with private parties.” The lawsuit contends the section of the budget created a program and dealt with other issues that, under the Constitution, would need to be handled through substantive laws.

But Nicholas Meros, a deputy general counsel for DeSantis, disputed during Friday’s hearing that the budget created a new program or changed state laws.

Meros said an immigration-enforcement law (SB 1808) passed last year allowed such flights and the budget details were “simply, ‘here’s how you spend the money.”

Really? The Florida state budget allows and pays for the transporting of legal migrants with 1000 mile flights out of TEXAS?! I am incredulous.
