(CNN)Special counsel John Durham’s case against a Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer got a boost from pivotal testimony from one of the FBI’s former top officials this week.
Former FBI general counsel James Baker, who is easily Durham’s most important witness, told a jury about his September 2016 meeting with Sussmann, the Clinton lawyer charged with lying to the FBI. Prosecutors argued that he concealed his political ties while passing along a tip about Donald Trump’s possible links to Russia. He pleaded not guilty.

(CNN)Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann was acquitted Tuesday of lying to the FBI, in the first trial of special counsel John Durham’s investigation.
The verdict is a major defeat for Durham and his Justice Department prosecutors, who have spent three years looking for wrongdoing in the Trump-Russia probe. He claimed Sussmann lied during a 2016 meeting in which he passed a tip to the FBI about Donald Trump and Russia.
The FBI is not a bunch of liberals.
The notion that the FBI is somehow a leftist organization is laughable. FBI agents like most people in law enforcement tend to be politically conservative. In its one hundred year history, no FBI director has been a Democrat. Every FBI director has been a Republican.
According to Michael Shellenberger on Twitter, Yoel Roth's sworn testimony, the FBI did not pressure Twitter to suppress the laptop story. The FBI did warn Twitter and "primed" Roth to believe that political candidates' could be subject to spurious attacks from foreign actors.
Also, Twitter is and was in no position to confirm the authenticity of reports. They exercised understandable caution rather than risk charges of defamation. No running a sketchy story is not propaganda.
Despite all the hair-pulling and angst coming from our Republican friends, the laptop story is no more than a collection of falsehoods, vague accusations and debunked theories. Mark my words, the GOP investigation into Hunter Biden's laptop will be a dud.
