TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Republican state Rep. Joe Harding resigned from office one day after a federal grand jury indictment against him was unsealed alleging he defrauded a federal pandemic-related small business loan program.

“Today, I am resigning from my position for the same two reasons: I love people, and I love Florida,” Harding said in a statement. “I believe in Floridians and want what is best for them, and I believe their leaders need not be encumbered by distractions that are mine alone.”

His resignation is effective immediately.

Does this change the law any? What effect does it have? I'm just curious, because you seem to think this nullifies the law... If you do, please explain in legal terms.

  2. by Curt_Anderson on December 8, 2022 7:54 pm
No change to the law. But if he gets prison time he may be saying “no, gay” often.

  3. by oldedude on December 8, 2022 8:01 pm
So why was it posted? That makes no sense other than to show a against gays and those convicted. Both of which you "claim" to support.

I just like to remind the readers who the Republican arbiters of morality really are.

  6. by oldedude on December 8, 2022 8:46 pm
I don't claim anything. Other than my own thoughts. I have zero accountability for other's thoughts. Do you think I have that power?

  7. by oldedude on December 9, 2022 3:37 am
Curt- And we've been through this. The bill only kept schools from teaching gender identity from being taught from K-4th grade. But of course, you wouldn't remember that because it doesn't meet your dogma criteria. Truth be damned! Don't confuse me with facts!

  8. by Donna on December 9, 2022 8:26 am

Gender Identity wasn't being taught to K-4 students. That bill was a typical scare bill designed by DeSantis to get Floridians to vote for him.

It served the same purpose as the 201 "anti-Sharia Law" bills the GOP introduced in 43 states after Obama the "secret Muslim" was elected and the GOP responded by inventing the phony Muslims-are-taking-over-the-US scare.

    OMFG.

We've been through this twice. Each time I have SHOWN YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE. I'm done with your stupid asinine selective fukking lack of any memory whatsoever. done.

  10. by oldedude on December 9, 2022 12:12 pm
"Gender Identity wasn't being taught to K-4 students. That bill was a typical scare bill designed by DeSantis to get Floridians to vote for him."

But that's ALL THE FUKKING BILL DID. You ought to read the truth and make a decision from that. Unless, like Curt, it would invade your dogma and prove you wrong. You've been lied to and sucked up their crap after you put your head up their arse.

  11. by oldedude on December 9, 2022 3:59 pm
So knowing you, you're going to make everyone go through this for a third time because your short-term memory is shot. What I have showed you is there were several companies throughout the country that had curriculums, and several districts had bought their product. You've been extremely evasive in what you wanted, even when asked. By repeating yourself, you're of no help. My guess is that is purposeful deception. There were companies in FL courting several of the districts in Jacksonville, Miami, parts of Tampa. Those districts were forewarned not to waste their money and received the key take-aways from the bill so they wouldn't spend money they didn't have.

    What does Florida’s law do?
    1. It bans instruction or classroom discussion about LGBTQ issues for kindergarten through third grade. For older students, discussion about gay and transgender issues has to be “age appropriate or developmentally appropriate.”

The law is effectively a statement that classroom education about sexual orientation and gender shouldn’t start at an early age, and that parents should have final say about what their children learn and when. It aims to “reinforce the fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children,” according to the text of the legislation.

    2. It empowers parents to sue the school district over teachings they don’t like. And the district will have to pay for it.

    3. It requires schools to tell parents when their child receives mental health services.

I know what the bill does - it addresses a non-existent problem in order to get gullible people to become incensed and vote for the candidate who pushed for the law, just like all of those anti-Sharia laws that Republicans advocated for and sonetimes enacted when the supposed "secret Muslim" was our president.

Btw, I've never been taught about "gender identity". Actually there isn't anything to teach except that transgender people like me exist.

But carry on. Believe every social issue emergency the GOP manufactures for electoral political purposes. Actually I think it's funny how easily you're hoodwinked.

  13. by oldedude on December 10, 2022 9:43 am
LIKE I SAID. There were districts in Florida who had been approached by companies peddling the curriculum. The curriculums would have started fall term in K-12. I've already gone over this. I really don't think you're this stupid. But I may be wrong that your dogma exceeds your intellect.
And no, I wasn't in school either. Please read my Alinsky thread, you, isle, and curt are poster children. And if you don't realize it, then you're a useful idiot to those in power.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on December 10, 2022 10:03 am

I know what the bill does - it addresses a non-existent problem...

I have trouble thinking even you believe that. If what you say's true, why is your side so twitterpated. Because you are. I follow Libs of TikTok on Twitter. From what she comes up with... directly from you lot...it's a very existent problem.

  15. by oldedude on December 10, 2022 11:16 am
Because it's a talking point. Need I say more?

  16. by oldedude on December 10, 2022 11:31 am
This is what they were "told" to do. So they do it. That's why I put the companies getting into districts there initially.

I'm like you though. If it didn't exist, why the brouhaha? I reference Alinsky rules. Deflect, create chaos, and division. If you make people hate each other, you're on a good path.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on December 10, 2022 11:37 am

If LGBTers weren't grooming no one outside of Florida would have heard of the bill, nocared.

  18. by Donna on December 11, 2022 10:19 am

Most Americans don't care about these issues your party is hanging all of its hopes on. Bread and butter issues will always be our #1 interest. What's on your party's agenda to fix the problems Americans care most about?

Btw, have you noticed that gasoline prices are lower than this time last year? Here in Tucson, regular unleaded is below $3.

  19. by oldedude on December 11, 2022 1:12 pm
    Donna,
That's $1 more than it was during the prior administration. Diesel is still over $5/gallon. That makes everything you buy higher. The US is paying ~30% more for food, fuel oil is beyond the reach of a middle-class family in large cities. Prices to keep (especially) small businesses afloat are skyrocketing. And you say everything is great! Wonderful things! A chicken in every pot! Actually, for the wokesters, it's fake meat and hatred.

There is nothing the House can do. pedojoe already said, just like his daddy, "I have a phone, and I have a pen." So as long as a dim is in the whitehouse, nothing will get passed. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because what has passed in the last two years has been pretty catastrophic.

”If what you say's true, why is your side so twitterpated. Because you are. I follow Libs of TikTok on Twitter.” ~ Hate

    Tiktok and Twitter !! LoL

Our “side” thoroughly enjoys making fun of the the foolish things you Trumpers say and do.

    Who wouldn’t ?

Most everybody knows why the Trumpers say and do what they do, except possibly for the ‘die hard’ Trumpers who fall for it, most Republicans recognize it as well...Although, for obvious reasons, they can’t make fun of it like we can.

As Donna mentioned earlier, remember the states banning “Sharia Law in US” nonsense? Why wouldn’t we point out and take advantage of such nonsense?

  21. by oldedude on December 11, 2022 6:24 pm
...remember the states banning “Sharia Law in US” nonsense?

So 1. I don't remember Donna saying that. I'm not doubting you, I'm just saying I don't remember.
    2. What's your view of it?

    Should have read.

I have not had an in depth discussion regarding sharia law in the US on this site.

  25. by islander on December 12, 2022 8:30 am

"A ban on sharia law is legislation that prohibits the application or implementation of Islamic law (Sharia) in courts in any civil (non-religious) jurisdiction. In the United States, various states have "banned Sharia law," * Wikipedia

Such a ban is just the brainchild of the wacko Republicans, the purpose of which is nothing more than fear mongering in the hopes of gaining votes. It is simply more nonsense.

Banning Sharia law is as foolish as banning Catholic's Cannon Law. Muslims or Catholics (or whoever else wants to) can follow Catholic Cannon law or Sharia law as long as the law they are following does not violate the Constitution or state laws.

If for example a Muslim wants to follow Sharia law with regard to who will inherit the family estate (maybe the eldest son?) our courts will and should allow it. If a Catholic wants to follow Cannon law with regard to divorce, our courts will and should allow Catholics (or anyone else who wants to) to do just that.

If a Sharia law required severing the hand of a thief...our courts won't and shouldn't allow it since it's against the law to inflict cruel and unusual punishment

  26. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 8:47 am

isle, "Such a ban is just the brainchild of the wacko Republicans..."

Being the expert you are, how do you distinguish between wacko Republicans and the others.

Hate ~ Here are a few of the wackos,

In 2011, Republicans Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann warned about what they saw as the threat of shariah law.[16] During the lead-up to Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign 2012, he described sharia law as a "mortal threat" and called for its ban throughout America.[17] Sarah Palin has been quoted as saying that if shariah law “were to be adopted, allowed to govern in our country, it will be the downfall of America.”[6]

At a press conference in the U.S. Capitol,[18] some Republican members of the United States Congress endorsed a new memorandum, based on a Center for Security Policy (CSP) report, Shariah: The Threat to America."

    LOL!!!!!!!

Btw, religion is another thing that young people are abandoning.

  29. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 9:30 am

Religion, yeah, Donna. Following in pb's path. That's a good thing. Sincere, "subjectivity is truth" faith? Declining? That's yet to be determined.

pb celebrates the demise of institutionalized religion. Why do you celebrate it? Are you, as you're accused but deny? A Commie?

  30. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 9:34 am

    isle,

You have opposed the crumbling of the wall of separation between church and state. How's sharia an exception?

  31. by Donna on December 12, 2022 9:41 am

I don't care either way about religion. I don't celebrate or mourn young people turning away from it.

  32. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 9:49 am

Bullfernerner, Donna. You expressed emotion in your post. "LOL," -Donna (12/12/22)

And, you brought it up out of left field. Maybe you need to be honest with yourself. But, c'mon man. Gimme a break! Be honest!

  33. by Donna on December 12, 2022 9:57 am

Unlike you, I never lie except to protect someone's feelings from being hurt. I said "LOL" there because I'm amused by all the hoopla the GOP engaged in surrounding Sharia Law.

  34. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 10:17 am

No, Donna. You LOLed about the decline religion among young people. Be honest with yourself. The decline of religion pleases you.

  35. by Donna on December 12, 2022 10:20 am

Your imagined ability to read my mind is malfunctioning.

As usual I told you my true feelings. If you don't believe me, oh well.

  36. by HatetheSwamp on December 12, 2022 10:42 am

I only have your words...and our history. I remain convinced. No doubt we'll have to leave it at that.

  37. by Donna on December 12, 2022 11:02 am

It should gave been obvious that I was laughing at what islander posted.

I have great memories from my church days. In fact I'm still in touch on FB with many of my old fellow church members.

If I were rejoicing in young peoples' exodus from religion, I'd say so. Why would I hide my feelings about that?

It's difficult communicating solely with the written word. People taking things the wrong way is a common occurrence on social media. We've all been misunderstood and have misunderstood others from time to time.

  38. by islander on December 12, 2022 11:46 am

"You have opposed the crumbling of the wall of separation between church and state. How's sharia an exception?" ~ Hate

I am solidly in favor of separation of church and state. Sharia law is not an exception. What made you think it is or that I thought it is?
