In the old forum, Ponder and others bemoaned that Republicans managed to stop a independent commission investigation into the January Sixth Insurrection. I suggested that there would be House committee investigation. I also wrote this:
Yes, it's not ideal. But as I wrote above there will be investigations and probably convictions. Plus the New York Times, WaPo and others will investigate. The public will know the truth and most will be accept the truth. The independent investigation that was voted down today would have been criticized anyway by Trump and Republicans as being "partisan" and a "witch hunt".
The New York Times did investigate. They just released an excellent 40 minute video timeline of the insurrection. It's compelling. If that isn't an ugly mob bent on violence, I don't what is. (Trigger warning: several congressional Republicans are exposed as hypocrites and liars) If you have access to a NY Times account, watch it. I posted the link below which may or may not work for non-subscribers.
Inside the Capitol Riot: An Exclusive Video Investigation
(NY Times) The Times analyzed thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building to understand how it happened — and why.
The work of understanding Jan. 6 has been hard enough without this barrage of disinformation and, hoping to get to the bottom of the riot, The Times’s Visual Investigations team spent several months reviewing thousands of videos, many filmed by the rioters themselves and since deleted from social media. We filed motions to unseal police body-camera footage, scoured law enforcement radio communications, and synchronized and mapped the visual evidence.
A Times reader wrote, and I agree:
"Simply stunning reporting. This piece should win an award, but more importantly the nation's thanks for showing all the truth of that terrible day. An essay in defense of democracy."
One other thing, I don't want to hear any crap about how all Trump voters including members of Congress are patriotic and staunch supporters of police.
