In the other forum, in its dying days,
I think it was Donna who asked why Republicans support restrictions on voting. Maybe it was Ponderer.

Well, it seems that the very overwhelming majority of Americans support what has been decried, even mocked, by progressive and Democrat dwellers of the Swamp: Voter ID laws. As the Sunday School song goes, "Red and yellow, black and white," we all support voter ID requirements. 80% in the recent Monmouth poll. Higher elsewhere.

Did you have to show ID to get your COVID shot? I did. Did anyone argue that showing ID to be vaccinated was Jim Crow 3.0? I don't think so!

My sense is that the Swampcult Blue MAGA Dems were counting on this as an 022 election issue. But, it seems as if this one is falling into the antiSwamp basket.

O22 is going to be an absolute blow out!

    Curt,

Here in Pennsylvania, none of the Amish drive, but pret'near all of them have an equivalent state issued ID and, they vote in increasingly large numbers! And, their first language ain't English!!

I said after Clouseau made his ridiculous Jim EAGLE remark that, for white liberals to claim that blacks can't be expected to obtain an ID, is to claim that "them darkies ain't smart enuff to get them identification."

    It is.

The Republicans will be punished by voters. Being against democracy is not a good look.

The Republicans' overt efforts to make voting more difficult will only inspire people to vote come hell or high water. Nothing motivates people like the threat to have some benefit taken from them. That's why marketers make big deal about "Sale Ends Monday" and "Limited Time Offer".

If your state issues ID, and it's free and easily available I have no problems with that.

Few Amish vote, as it's against their religious principles. They consider voting and government to be the activities of the "English" and outside their domain.

Historically, it has been against their principles, no doubt but, trust me, a year ago I moved right into the middle of an Amish community. I see buggies on the road every day. Here, in Lancaster County, the Amish went bonkers for Trump on 016 and even more so in 020. Go figure! I'm not sure why. I do know that the current House guy was raised Amish and left. He, no doubt, has many contacts with the Amish. Anyway, the Amish don't drive but they do vote...with state issued ID.

Well, you are presumably smart. If you live in the city and don't have a drivers license because you use public transportation and don't have a passport because you don't travel internationally, what would be an acceptable form of voter ID that you could easily get without taking off work or having to pay for it? Because that would be an illegal poll tax if voters were required to pay for something to vote.

I guess those people ain't as smart as them 100% white Amish in Pennsylvania, none of who will ever drive and many of whom, as I've pointed out, vote.

What we do know is that, according to polls, a huuuge majority of our citizens support voter ID.

    Hate,
Your state really doesn't have a voter ID requirement that Republicans, and I believe you, want. But if you are OK with a current utility bill, current bank statement or current paycheck then we are agreement on voter ID requirements.

    Approved forms identification include:
Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card
ID issued by any Commonwealth agency
ID issued by the U.S. Government
    U.S. passport
    U.S. Armed Forces ID
    Student ID
    Employee ID
If you do not have a photo ID, you can use a non-photo identification that includes your name and address.
Confirmation issued by the County Voter Registration Office
Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth
Non-photo ID issued by the U.S. Government
    Firearm permit
    Current utility bill
    Current bank statement
    Current paycheck
    Government check

As I've said multiple times. If you don't have an ID (and you're a citizen), it is illegal to: open or have a bank account, get a job, draw unemployment, have a SNAP card, buy a car from a dealer, or buy a gun (two IDs).
