"We are willing to mix with one another, but we do not want to become peoples of mixed race,” Mr. Orban said. “Migration has split Europe in two — or I could say that it has split the West in two.”

As PM of Hungary, Orban advocated for not legally recognizing transgender people, which led to the passage of a law which prevents TG people from changing their sex on official documents such as drivers licenses, passports, and literally any government document that shows ones sex.

Who here agrees with either of those positions?

Amazing how freely those terms, "white nationalist" and "white supremacist" are thrown around. Might as well just white male.

  2. by Donna on August 5, 2022 11:22 am
Well no, obviously not all White males are White nationalists. Orban obviously is, though.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on August 5, 2022 11:57 am

It might be less hateful if you described his offense merely as being a "nationalist."

But, then, I'm not sure that nationalism has a darned thing to do with transgender issues.

  4. by Curt_Anderson on August 5, 2022 12:11 pm
Donna, to be fair Republicans are not admirers of Orban simply because of his racist views, etc. The also admire him because he is an authoritarian ruler.

Why conservatives gave a big welcome to leader who suppressed Hungary's democracy
Republicans have become increasingly fascinated with this strong-armed authoritarian leader who twists and manipulates the political process to solidify his power and weaken opponents.

"Now the west is at war with itself. We have seen what kind of future the globalist ruling class has to offer. But we have a different future in mind. The globalists can all go to hell,...

That sounds about right to me.

You can do all the name calling you like. Amazing, ain't, that it was the Nazis who chose to propagandized the people they opposed by representing them as the incarnation of evil.

Many, in many nations, oppose you for what you believe in.

We will describe our differences with you and note the intellectual traditions you resemble.

But, WHITE...NATIONALIST?...really!!!!!? That's the best you can do?

  6. by oldedude on August 5, 2022 12:33 pm
So who, in your opinion, is he talking about?

  7. by Donna on August 5, 2022 1:13 pm
The question I posed was simple. Do you agree with either of the positions in my opening post? Be honest.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on August 5, 2022 1:23 pm

    Donna,

It's a Catholic country. It's not the US.

It strikes me that there's a bigger issue here.

  9. by oldedude on August 5, 2022 2:14 pm
"It's a Catholic country. It's not the US."
Actually, it's more Orthodox, which underlines your statement.

"The question I posed was simple. Do you agree with either of the positions in my opening post? Be honest."

This is yet another "gotcha question. If we agree, we're racist haters.

If I were you, I'd start looking at how you "assume" he's White Nationalist. He's actually considered Center Right in Hungry.

His country has been at war with radical Islam since the 1200's and continues today. He's in his FOURTH Term as Prime Minister and has booted out Soros. He is also anti-communist in a country that few would think would ever leave the UdSSR. Understanding where Orban is coming from, meaning their country has been riddled by communists and radical Muslims since the 1980's.

  10. by oldedude on August 5, 2022 2:44 pm
It strikes me that there's a bigger issue here.
I thought about that for a bit. Never would she say anything bad about the dictator Maduro. I mean, he's done so much good in the country. People have plenty to eat, I mean, garbage trucks are everywhere. Considering the Religion of the country, I don't think he's that far off of the mainstream.

I've been in enough countries to know that what I think or don't doesn't matter. I've been in countries that killed women and men for being gay, and where having two joints is a death sentence because you were going to sell the other one. I was in a hotel in Ciudad de Panamá where two men or two women (say brother and sister, or travelling companions, or dad and son, etc) could not stay in the same room. No exceptions, that was the rule. They were very devout Catholic. It is legal in the country because the government does not make rules about private businesses. I just kind of learned that it's none of my concern. I'm a visitor in their country. a guest if you will. I feel like I am responsible to act like one.

  12. by Donna on August 5, 2022 4:50 pm

Here's something I found that's incredibly wonderful about Hungary.

Hungary maintains a universal health care system largely financed by government national health insurance. According to the OECD, 100% of the population is covered by universal health insurance,[27] which is absolutely free for children, students, pensioners, people with low income, handicapped people, and church employees.[220][221] Hungary spends 7.2% of GDP on healthcare, spending $2,045 per capita, of which $1,365 is provided by the government.[222]

Hungary is one of the main destinations of medical tourism in Europe, particularly in dental tourism,[223][224] in which its share is 42% in Europe and 21% worldwide.[224][225] Plastic surgery is also a key sector, with 30% of the clients coming from abroad. Hungary is well known for its spa culture and is home to numerous medicinal spas,[226] which attract "spa tourism".[227]

They're from the old, failed Soviet Bloc, what do you expect? Welfare is what they know. It must be the system of White Nationalism.

  14. by Donna on August 5, 2022 7:10 pm
Hey, whatever works. I wish we had a civilized healthcare system like Hungary's.

It's a oretty sad state of affairs when Americans have to move to another country to get civilized healthcare.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on August 6, 2022 4:14 am

    Donna,

It's nice to know about healthcare in Hungary.

    But, they're WHITE...

    ...and NATIONALISTS.

Don't those sins negate any and every good!!!!!?

  18. by HatetheSwamp on August 6, 2022 4:50 am

Actually, it's more Orthodox, which underlines your statement.

    OD,

You're right. I apologize. A few days ago, Glenn Beck grilled a member of his government (who, incidentally, has the same last name, Orban, but is not related).

Beck ain't who the unthinking Blue Ultra-MAGAs think he is.

Orban explained the context, the history. He said, unabashedly. "Our is a Christian nation." Clearly, in spite of what Donna and others here might think, that means something different in Eastern Europe than it does here with our Enlightenment roots.

Beck HATES racism and prejudice. He essentially assaulted Orban over the issue. Orban spoke intelligently and said all the right things.

I came away thinking good things about Hungary and its leaders.

But, that's easier on our side. We're not predisposed to sanctimony, or self-righteousness judgment.

  19. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 6:17 am
    Lead,
I saw an interview with (I think) the Ambassador. It could have been the same guy, but different interview.

I agree, when they sit down and explain the situation it makes sense. Can we do that here? No.

But their history is really fraught with a lot of other groups trying to take over their sovereign nation. Rome (vassal state), Islam (vassal state), Germany (vassal state), Islam, Germany, Moscow, Islam, Moscow, Islam, Islam, Islam.

I guess if I were in the same position, I might do the same thing. The religion factor is the one common denominator against all their enemies. It may seem strange in the US where many feel it violates their "rights" to hear the word religion, or to see a crucifix, etc.

The one thing I got in the interview I saw, is that they are not us, and we are not them. I do know they're scrappy fighters that have been battle tested since Rome. I hold them in the same esteem as the Ukrainians. To help them would be an honor. Like the Peshmerga, they'll be at your side and have your 6 fighting for their freedom.

  20. by HatetheSwamp on August 6, 2022 6:42 am

The religion factor is the one common denominator against all their enemies. It may seem strange in the US where many feel it violates their "rights" to hear the word religion, or to see a crucifix, etc.

In the US, the entirety of our history, 200+ years, since the creation of the Bill of Rights, is one which protects religion from state interference.

Theirs, for what?, a millennium?, longer?, is the fusion of the two.

It's easy for all of us to judge everything and everyone in terms of who we are and what we believe...but, that is soooooooooooooo wrong.

Again, what separates our side from white American progressives is that we resist the temptation to make ourselves the center of the universe. They?, they're proud to do it.

In the end, we're the enlightened and the compassionate.

  21. by Donna on August 6, 2022 9:08 am
Hts: No, those sins don't negate every good, obviously because I took the initiative to compliment them on their healthcare system. I would have thought that you'd pick that up from my post, but, well, you're Hts, and Hts must constantly satisfy his addiction to arguing.

  22. by Donna on August 6, 2022 9:22 am
You're absolutely right, olde dude. In fact Hitler had the same attitude towards immigrants and justified it using similar language.

Racism, xenophobia, and the quest for ethnic and religious purity certainly have their advantages when you're setting up an authoritarian state. If you can prevent the undesirables from entering your hallowed ground in the first place, then you don't have to spend so much time and money later herding them into concentration camps.

  23. by Donna on August 6, 2022 9:31 am
    Oh, and by the way...

Hungary’s hardline nationalist leader Viktor Orban is facing international condemnation after making remarks on race and multiculturalism that were slammed as a “pure Nazi text” by his longtime aide.

Zsuzsa Hegedus, who served as an adviser to Orban for two decades, quit Tuesday over what she called Orban’s “illiberal turn,” describing his comments in Romania on Saturday as a “pure Nazi text worthy of (Nazi propagandist) Goebbels,” according to her resignation letter published by Hungarian outlet HVG.

He was also denounced by the International Auschwitz Committee after comments in the same speech that were interpreted as a joke about the use of gas chambers against Jewish people in Nazi Germany.

    Donna,

I know that you cringe when you're associated with the woke, but you have to you have to know that the "universal" woke truths that you use to condemn everyone who thinks differently than you, are embraced by about half of the people in the US, much of Canada and a few places in Central and South America and Western Europe.

Beyond that, what you take for granted is considered to be lascivious and degenerate everywhere and by everyone.

You don't rate the privilege of being snarky.

  25. by Donna on August 6, 2022 4:10 pm
What a pathetic answer. All you have is blather.

  26. by HatetheSwamp on August 6, 2022 4:19 pm

I only really know about Hungary what I know from listening to that half hour interview on Beck's program.

But, I do know that the woke are less than objective in their response to people who are not woke.

I will note that you base your opinions exclusively on woke reporting. I don't know, but I'd guess that you would get different reporting from Fox.

Donna. I tried to post very delicately. During the rise of the Ottoman Empire, this area of the world, (from Turkey to Vienna, AU) was under the control of the Ottomans which imposed Q'uronic law. This means the locals were punished if and when they worshiped to the point the Church was an underground institution. If you broke their law, you were killed. Whole families were taken and killed. Obviously, you don't understand the hatred there is for Islam in this part of the world. Even in Vienna (a beautiful city). The rape and pillage of that city is still a piece of history that's taught. The Ottomen took hundreds of thousands of people in this region for slavery.

This is when the "dragon society" came in and were as ruthless to the Muslims. Welcome to Vlad the Impaler. Being this was in the Middle Ages, it was one of the bloodiest wars seen to date. In the 1970's- 1990's was a scourge which was set in Bosnia, Croatia all the way east to Bulgaria. In 2002, Chechen rebels took over a theater in Moscow. Sarajevo looked like Beirut and had a constant sniper attack from both sides. Those targeted? Civilians. This hatred on both sides has run deep for about a thousand years now. I know your world is full of unicorns and pixie dust, but that's not reality there. Neither side will stop.

  28. by Donna on August 6, 2022 4:46 pm
Woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke woke... That's your blanket response to everything now.

  29. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 4:49 pm
And yes, they are trying to do the best they can on health care. They're infrastructure is being rebuilt, but they are working on it. The Russians made sure countries had issues with this when they left.

  30. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 4:53 pm
Well....... The idea that everyone should be like you is an extremely xenophobic view in itself. When a family can go back 10-15 generations and name people that were murdered by a single group, it creates hatred. Especially when many of those are children.

  31. by Donna on August 6, 2022 4:57 pm
Orban's own aide resigned over his recent remarks and compared him with Goebbels, od.

  32. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 5:01 pm
You need to live there. Obviously, you haven't read any of my posts. You're arguing that you would be loving and accepting to people that murdered your brother at the age of 10, your mother for walking down the street to pick up 5 litres of petrol, and your wife just because she was there. Take that back 15 generations.

  33. by Donna on August 6, 2022 5:07 pm
Well apparently Orban's aide who I assume is Hungarian was still repulsed by his remarks despite the country's history.

The rest of the free world has moved on. The Orbans, Trumps, and their supporters and apologists are stuck in the past.

  34. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 5:08 pm

  35. by oldedude on August 6, 2022 8:17 pm
Just a scope note to break this down. Keep in mind while this was happening in that area during this time. In the US, "Achy Breaky Heart" – Billy Ray Cyrus was #1, "Last of the Mohicans" was on the theater. If you remember (as much as you may not want to remember Billy Ray), it's still in your memory.

Between 1992- 1995, thousands of Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, and others were murdered in a genocidal attempt in the region. This was strictly a religious war and atrocities were on both sides. Christians were kept in concentration camps, ala WWII, and several major scenes took the lives of Muslims. Mass graves were used on both sides to hide evidence.

"Since the beginning of the siege it is estimated that nearly 10,000 persons have been killed or are missing in the city. This total includes over 1,500 children. An additional 56,000 persons have been wounded, including nearly 15,000 children. It has been estimated that over the course of the siege the city has hit been hit by an average of approximately 329 shell impacts per day, with a high of 3,777 shell impacts on 22 July 1993."

Orban was declining in popularity in Hungary before the war in Ukraine.

The Zavecz poll, conducted between Nov. 2 and 12 and published by the HVG.hu news site, showed the opposition alliance boosting its support by two points to 41% of voters, while support for Fidesz (Orban's party) grew by the same extent, to 37%. The ranks of the undecided fell sharply, to 14% from 23% a month ago, when opposition primaries to pick Orban's challenger next year ended with the shock victory of Peter Marki-Zay, an energetic political outsider. (see link at bottom)

But Orban won decisively in the April 2022 election because they felt safer with a PM who had a cozy relationship with Vladimir Putin.

    ***

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is a populist political party in Serbia which has been the ruling party since 2012.

Founded in 2008 as a split from the far-right Serbian Radical Party (SRS), the culmination of a decade-long conflict within the SRS between the party's moderate and hardline wings, the SNS retained the former's conservative outlook while adopting distinct pro-European and neoliberal policies. The SNS has won every national-level election since 2012, winning a majority of seats in 2014, 2016, 2020 and 2022. With at least 750,000 members as of 2020, SNS is the largest party in Europe by the membership (excluding United Russia).

As for Croatia, Zoran Milanović is the president. Prior to assuming the presidency, he was prime minister from 2011 to 2016 and president of the Social Democratic Party from 2007 to 2016.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is more complicated. From what I've read, it's a center-right coalition government.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are a total goat fuck. Still. I know that just looking at what party is in and blahblahblah makes you feel good but that is nothing about what is going on in that part of the world, and definitely not about him being a white nationalist. The reason that Putin was desired is they knew that if called because they were going to lose their country because of the Muslim Nationalists, Vlad II would step in because he hates the Croats more than almost anything. Orban has been in four terms. We have one in 1/2 of a term that has the lowest rating since WWII. Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, are still trying to rebuild after the defeated soviet bloc left. Families are still trying to rebuild after the other side tried to erase their blood off the face of the earth. I'm just wondering, did you actually read my post?

If you did, and didn't have to look up words, you'd actually understand the rift these two groups are having. You may not be able to understand it, but you must understand it to actually speak to the issues. Do you want me to put it in Hungarian or Russian? I'm better in russian. or arabic, or german. Chose YOUR preferred method. Remember, you're not a political science person. and don't give a shit about our constitution.

  43. by Donna on August 7, 2022 9:20 pm
I know it's been Anglicized. But you can translate it online. Just Google "Hungarian to English" and type it in. That's how I found it.

I was just having some fun. It's the kind of thing nerds like myself do for amusement. Btw, it means "yes".

Okay, see how far off I am. Consider the US as being "Liberal." This is done through our type of government economic system, and world standing.
    1. Global community, not individual nations.
    2. Common trade means
    3. Common laws for the most part
    4. complete access to healthcare with wealthier countries supporting poorer countries.
    5. Same thing with education
    6. A small group at the head of everything.

So honestly, the EU would be a smaller version of the Liberal World Order
