Hello Forum Friends...and goodbye.

After two decades the time has come to retire a forum which appeared elsewhere on this site.

As I've previously said there are various problems with that forum. It is no longer supported: the company that programmed it is out of business. It has unfixable security issues. It uses a disproportionate amount of this site's resources which causes the site to lug and crash.

You will remember that I had planned to retire that discussion board 18 months ago. That proved to be an unpopular idea. However, now it's a business necessity because of an increase in traffic to the selectors.

I wish to thank the many people who have contributed their opinions, outrages and observations about current events, politics, religion, philosophy and more. A special thanks to longtime posters Ponderer, Donna, Rube, Olde Dude, Meagain, Indy, Tuk, txcup, Fascinated_foreigner, Kairos, Maddy and Whatsy. I've learned a lot from you even when we disagree, maybe especially when we disagree.

If you are like me, you have a need to write. It's a creative outlet and good way to clarify your thoughts. It sharpens the mind to be challenged. I placed a search tool at the bottom of this page so you can find old posts. If you were a regular here, you can collect your old posts and have enough material for a book. I hope you will continue to post here in The SelectSmart.com Post. It has features that can enhance whatever you write. I will be posting there so if you are interested in what I have to say you will find it here.

If nothing else, post an anonymous comment to bid farewell.

Wow, Curt. Sad, surprising, disappointing,
yet not entirely unexpected. Understandable.

Only a few days ago, I thought about asking you about our future. I figured I'd get around to it...

You said two decades. I think that I must have been around almost from the beginning. Times certainly have changed over those years and SS was a constant for me. How many Presidents have we all be through together?

To all the posters Curt listed, I guess this is goodbye. Some of you seem as real to me as people I know in real life.

To po and Donna especially, I'm sorry SS ended when it did. We were in the midst of something that I was hoping would have resulted in a new layer of understanding for me. Thanks to you both for what you've taught me. We do have fb, but that couldn't possibly be the same as this.

To all whom I've encountered over the years on SS, it's been a slice. Thanks for everything.
