She says Trump attempted to influence a witness we have not seen publicly. She said the witness's lawyer informed the committee. The committee informed the DOJ. She indicted we will hear more about this in the next hearing.

The committee is also making the case that Trump is derelict in his duty to "protect and defend the Constitution".

Now, don't go getting pb's hopes up. Liz is a wacko. Nothing that she says about Trump is true...

...although, pb's assumes Liz genuinely thinks it's true.

    (That's the derangement part.)

  2. by Curt_Anderson on July 12, 2022 1:11 pm
The real sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome are people like you who doubt Liz Cheney, a woman of integrity and principle, but instead you believe Trump, a compulsive liar.

Not to mention Liz Cheney apparently isn't the only person aware of and alarmed by Trump's witness tampering.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on July 12, 2022 1:28 pm

I don't believe Trump. Not by a looooooooong shot.

But, I also don't believe he incited an insurrection on J6.

I've been clear that Lizzy and I are almost perfectly compatible ideologically.

But, with Trump?, she's lost her mind.

    Don't ever change, Bill.

Backacha, po. I promise to hold on.

  6. by Ponderer on July 12, 2022 5:32 pm

Oh I know you will, Bill. No matter how stupid you ever end up looking. No matter how high and criminally incriminating to your Fat Golden Calf of a former president the evidence against him piles up, you stick to your guns.

You do your Orange Messiah proud. He knows that you're a team player. He knows you'll do the right thing. You keep that lie alive no matter how completely asinine you look to the world doing it.

    👌

I support Ron DeSantis for President.

I have to laugh. And, since lizzy borton took knowingly false information in to this hearing, she is also guilty of the same crime.

The "protests" in front of the houses of SCOTUS are also a federal crime (18 U.S. Code § 1512 - Tampering with a witness, victim, or an informant). Section (g) spells out that if you impede, harass, or attempt to disuade a juror, grand juror, judge, or any officer of the court, you're also guilty of the same penalties as you would someone tampering with a witness, victim, or informant.

Just out of curiosity, Bill, By what laughable excuse for logic does your supporting DeSantis have anything to do with the fact that you will never admit to the truth about Trump and will continue for the rest of your life believing fully and totally in his Big Lie?

  10. by HatetheSwamp on July 13, 2022 9:56 am

    po,

pb's rooting for your deranged take on the 020 election to be proved true.

If DeSantis is the GOP nominee in 024, he'll get 340 electoral votes. If Tim Scott is the Veep, it'll be 375...

...and GOPs will have 280 seats in the House and 60 in the Senate.

But, as pb has said repeatedly, as things stand, Trump's a lock to win the nomination.

I suspect that Liz Cheney's remark about witness tampering is a preventative measure rather than something that the committee expects the DOJ to prosecute.

It's certainly enough to make Trump and his underlings think twice about telling potential witnesses what to say and not say.

    If they've ever done that.

"If they've ever done that." --HtS

In addition to the allegations of attempted witness tampering made by witnesses and committee members, we know that Trump futilely took his claims of executive privilege all the way to the Supreme Court to keep witnesses from talking to the committee. We also know that Trump's most faithful cult members like Michael Flynn invoked the Fifth to the most banal questions or have fought appearing altogether.

  14. by HatetheSwamp on July 13, 2022 10:38 am

    Curt,

pb has always contended that Trump is despicable and that he's too slimy to get caught doing something actually criminal.

To this time, pb's been correct.

He has been associated with bad acts, by the Committee, through innuendo, gossip, rumor and hearsay.

  15. by Curt_Anderson on July 13, 2022 11:03 am
It's a lot more than "innuendo, gossip, rumor and hearsay." There is plenty of circumstantial and connecting evidence that could convince a jury, even if Trump insulated himself from the crimes. Juries don't need a confession blurted out as in the last five minutes of a Perry Mason episode. People are sitting prison who were less closely connected to the crimes of which they were convicted.

    Trump's criminal exposure includes:
    Incitement of the insurrectionists.
    Interrupting the electoral proceeding.
Pressuring Brad Raffensperger to "find" votes.

I believe that the next hearing will make that case that Trump's 187 minutes of inaction assisted and encouraged crimes committed by the January 6th insurrectionists.

I think that you are being optimistic, but we'll see.
