(Roll Call)Congress left out of a Ukraine-focused supplemental spending bill a White House proposal to grant Afghan evacuees permanent protections in the U.S., leaving roughly 36,000 of them in legal limbo.

The move deals a blow to advocates who have spent months urging protections for those who were evacuated from Afghanistan last August but do not qualify for special immigrant visas.

The organization #AfghanEvac, which has worked to secure relief for Afghans, has met with the White House and with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for months to push for the provisions. The Biden administration asked Congress to include the language in the Ukraine bill.

Ultimately, the Afghan proposal was stymied by Republican concerns about vetting...

I assume these are the unvetted people who showed up at the airport, whom we flew out rather than protect the Afghani citizens who risked their lives for the US, hundreds of whom have been tortured and murdered since we abandoned them?

I can't say I'm upset. Millions of us continue to be appalled by...and, this is where the description "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" originated..."that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap's"...complicity in the abuse and murder of America's friends.

    HtS,
There was a report on NPR this morning about this topic. They highlighted a case of an Afghan who was helping Americans and was shot by the Taliban. He recovered in an US Army hospital but paralyzed from the waist down. He showed up on the 11th hour, the very last day of evacuations, and because he was wheelchair bound couldn't compete with the masses who wanted to be evacuated.

I've commented more than once that the Afghans who were and are stuck in Afghanistan were the procrastinators. For months the State Department was issuing advisories for people like that guy to leave. Our imminent departure was widely reported.

Not only are you full of it, but it's over the Afghan withdrawal that "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" came to have a negative net approval and upon which November's coming Red Wave will be built.

Our Afghan translators and allies remained in the field, trusting our promise that we would never abandon them and working with our troops, until "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" pulled the rug out from under them, breaking our promise and disgracing us forever...and, in effect, murdering them.

He is precisely "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap." We'll remember.

what rug was pulled? That's your irrational hated of Biden talking.

Trump announced that we were leaving Afghanistan 18 months earlier in February of the year before. Biden actually extended the original departure date by a month or two. Anybody who wanted to leave had plenty of time and opportunity. They just didn't take it.

The bottom line is that Afghan evacuees are being screwed by the Republicans with one possible exception. You can't admit that.

New: At least one Republican supports the White House’s effort to include the Afghan Adjustment Act in the Ukraine supplemental bill.

“I’d like to see these people have some certainty in their lives,” @LindseyGrahamSC tells me.

    America knows.

Twelve months ago, "that feckless dementia-ridden piece of crap" was +10 on 538. Now, -16.9!

    Afghanistan started his demise.

Honestly, I don't begrudge the people who took advantage of Joe's incompetence to grab a free ride to freedom...

...it's that they're a reminder of the Doddering Old Fart's brainless treachery.

    HtS,
Most Americans don't have a clue. Every developed nation is experiencing inflation. America is in middle of international inflation rates.

So comrade, you and others complain about the availability of tampons and baby formula. You want the government to control the supply and price of gasoline. You want a command economy, in which the central government dictates the level of production of goods and controls their distribution and prices. That's communism.

As an American who favors our private enterprise system, I prefer that private enterprise in response to consumer demand control the supply and price of goods and services. It shouldn't be the government's job to make national parks and other public lands available to oil and mineral speculators. Nor should government grab land through the compulsory acquisition of land known as "eminent domain" for the oil industry. Edwin Drake drilled for oil on land HE owned, not government land.

Most Americans don't have a clue.

This is why this Supreme Court is going to be deadly for progressives. All of you Blue MAGAs here have disdain for, as you say, "Most Americans."

You think they don't have a clue. Donna says they're not smart. po says they're stupid and isle constantly claims they don't UNDERSTAND.

    That's today's left. Universally.

Today's Court, based on Dobbs and the cases they're taking for next term, appears to want to turn the government over to, "the people and their representatives."

You'd better reign in that sanctimony or there's gunna be one red tsunami after another.

"So comrade, you and others complain about the availability of tampons and baby formula. You want the government to control the supply and price of gasoline."
Not in the least. I want him to pull his head out of his arse and open up the ability for the gas companies to produce domestically. He told us he was going to kill the coal miners, and oil company workers. He's doing that. He stopped two pipelines within days of his inauguration, leaving a couple of thousand families without good paying jobs, housing they now couldn't afford, along with a lack of heat in the northern Dakota states, where it routinely goes to -40 with the winds. And he pulled out the best paying jobs in the gulf. Something these states rely on for their people.

The public should have been notified months before he did. AND he should have had enough foresight to go to Europe to help us out. I'm sorry, but it's illegal for a private citizen to make a treaty with another country. That rests on his shoulders. His complete lack of movement is indicative of the New Liberal World Order. They don't give a sht about blue collar workers. And, he's making the CCP and Russians very wealthy. I'm sure they're lining his pockets, too.

"It shouldn't be the government's job to make national parks and other public lands available to oil and mineral speculators."
That's fresh. Who do you think owns that land? And oil is only in certain parts. You can't just throw a derrick anywhere you want and get oil. It isn't that he is doing something new... They were opened before. Pedojoe closed them. Oh. A lot of that land is BLM land. That means they can't give it away because you can't farm on it, and it isn't good for much. There is also land on farming acreage that pedojoe closed.

"what rug was pulled? That's your irrational hated of Biden talking."
No, that was fact. The military and former military members were trying to take out the terps and their families. pedojoe wouldn't hear of it. Those are the folks that should come out. The unvetted by either State Dept, or the military are not to be taken. We don't know them and we need to get our friends out first. Or are they just stupid camel jockeys that live in caves to you?
