There's a conspiracy theory going around -- and btw I thought about this possibility before I read that it was a conspiracy theory -- that corporations, oil companies in particular, are intentionally jacking up prices at the behest of Republicans in Congress to make President Biden and Democrats look bad.

In return they expect that if Republicans win big this November, their taxes will remain low and they'll continue receiving billions of dollars in subsidies, which many Democrats have come out publicly against. It could also have something to do with the shortage-of-the-month thing that's been going on.

I have no proof -- although it would be nearly impossible to prove, and I'm not saying that it's a fact -- but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's what's going on.

    Donna,

You believe in the Frankie Shaffer conspiracy theory.

  2. by Donna on June 17, 2022 4:03 pm
Actually it's something I thought of before I read or heard someone else talk about it.

Again, I haven't a shred of evidence, and I'm not saying that that's what's going on, but I wouldn't put it past the oil cartel.

  3. by islander on June 17, 2022 4:20 pm

Donna-I think it's probably passed through most everybody's mind, but without evidence, only those with the most conspiracy minded mindset actually sincerely believe it. For the rest of us it's speculation, interesting bit still just speculation.

    Donna,
Even if it were not a conspiracy of oil companies--that is oil companies conspiring together to undermine the Democrats' chances, they individually aren't motivated to help the political party that favors alternative energy and believes in Climate Change.

The other part of it is that oil is a fungible, worldwide commodity. If the oil companies in America decided to patriotically and altruistically to reduce their profits, the saving to consumers would be spread thinly across the globe. So the sacrifice by American companies wouldn't result in reciprocal benefit to American consumers.

If you've been just doing a quick look at this, it could be. Also where you get your news.
First, the price of gas is based on supply and demand. Joe cut the domestic supply by a huge margin. Yes, it isn't "exactly" a lie that he "opened up several areas." The issue is that these are new areas and it will take 5-10 years (average) to process through the EPA bullshit to actually start drilling. In addition, these are unknown areas, so it's a crapshoot if you actually find oil. If not, you just wasted a couple of million dollars and did nothing. Those areas that have already been open and there are drilling sites there, are still closed. Colorado went from about 20% of the state's revenue to it being illegal to drill. Several states are following.
So. In order to drive the price down, don't drive. Don't fly. Don't use your heat during the winter.

Well the war in Ukraine has a lot to do with it too. Europe's also being hit hard by rising fuel prices.

I see a lot of people hurting in this country, and not just because of inflation. Investors across the country are buying apartment complexes, adding minor improvements, and raising rents to such high levels that people are being forced to live in their cars and on the streets. Retired people on fixed income are getting hurt real bad by this. And all because the investors want to flip the properties and make a killing. I want to strangle these soulless freaks.

  7. by oldedude on June 18, 2022 5:14 pm
They're doing this because they lost their asses during COVID when people didn't have to pay rent and couldn't be evicted. (All) prices have skyrocketed and no one in the oligarchy cares. It looks like a whole bunch of Marie Antoinette's are in power now.
You can tell it's bad. Hispanics are like rats off a sinking ship. Dems have always thought they were only good for mowing lawns and picking up trash. Now they're in congress.... as Republicans and conservatives.

  8. by Ponderer on June 19, 2022 3:50 pm

I'm sure that had a lot to do with it, od. It's like how the oil companies are all trying to recoup all that Profit they lost over the same time too. But it's not the whole story. So many factors involved. What a president does is not a very big part of it. Any president.

  9. by oldedude on June 19, 2022 5:05 pm
It absolutely is when the "president" locks down the lands that have allowed them to have use of the land to ensure their product go to market. Asswipe doddering fukface put thousands of people out of work at a whim. He did this in the winter in the northern border. I know you don't give damn about working people except for yourself, but these families were kicked out of their homes without a paycheck in the dead of North Dakota winter where it can go to -40 degrees with the windchill. You need to write them and tell them how pleased you are to try to murder them.

  10. by Ponderer on June 19, 2022 6:12 pm

Oh. Okay. I didn't realize that it was really only about whatever you wanted to declare it was only about. I stand corrected. My apologies, od.

  11. by oldedude on June 19, 2022 9:32 pm
You don't read posts, do you?
OH, maybe I stand corrected. You can't understand that the world doesn't revolve around you and the other sheep that tell you what they're told to tell you. And you just swallow it up like a good sheep. It's easy! Don't think! just get told the new phrase and just repeat it! yeah,,,,, that's the ticket....

  12. by Donna on June 19, 2022 10:03 pm
You're actually making excuses for these heartless assholes who are going around the country forcing people, many of whom are on fixed income, onto the streets so that they can flip the properties and and add another digit onto their already bloated bank accounts? And then blaming it all on Biden who didn't have anything to do with it?

Congratulations! You have to be the most hateful, uncaring, and mentally disturbed bullshitters who's ever posted on this forum! You truly take the cake, Marie!
