    Two comments.

    First, Trump Trump Trump Trump
    Trump Trump Trump Trump
    Trump Trump Trump Trump...TRUMP!

Second, remember when Dems pretended that no further investigation was necessary to convict Trump and impeach him for leading an insurrection? Now, a year and a half later, they're still trying to twist arms to get help in nailing Trump for anything at all! What a hoot! You Dems are so cute.

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha, ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Curt - How many times do you have to see that before you catch on that he's fucking with you?

  3. by Curt_Anderson on June 3, 2022 12:25 pm
    Donna,
Probably. But I think he actually believes for the most part the BS he spews.

Anyway, there are a lot people who do believe what HtS espouses and many more who are unsure or uninformed. Some of them will see our give and take and hopefully consider the strengths of our respective arguments, weigh the facts then come to an intelligent conclusion.

Please feel free to correct me. I thought that a majority of the members of the House were convinced that there was sufficient evidence to impeach OrangeMan before his term ended in January 017. Ain't?

    HtS,
You are talking apples and oranges.

Impeachment and even a Senate conviction are not the same as an indictment and conviction in criminal court. Other than a slightly early expulsion from office, there was no punishment (such as imprisonment or a fine) associated with Trump's second impeachment and and possible conviction.

Obviously impeachment is a political act with "jurors" who by virtue of their involvement or victimization in the insurrection would not be allowed to sit in the jury in a criminal trial.

Trump's second impeachment was narrow in scope. It only asked if Trump was guilty of inciting an insurrection.

The January Sixth Committee is investigating a broader range of crimes including the various ways that Trump and his cronies attempted to illegal overturn a free and fair election. For example, they looking at Peter Novarro's plan and the plot to overturn the election called the "Green Bay Sweep".

    Well then carry on, Curt.

How come those readers almost never join in on the conversations? They can't be all that engaged. I think perhaps you're overestimating the impact of our discourse here. It certainly doesn't hurt, though, and if you enjoy it, then all the better.

I'll continue to post here, but it'll probably be on a more limited basis and much less about politics.

    Donna,
Maybe people prefer to be among the like-minded in an echo chamber. Nowadays, most people seem to prefer Facebook, Twitter, et cetera to express their opinions. A lot of sites are dropping their comments sections. For example, look at the bottom of article in The Hill. It now says:
"The Hill has removed its comment section, as there are many other forums for readers to participate in the conversation. We invite you to join the discussion on Facebook and Twitter."
    thehill.com

Social media is comprised of multiple echo chambers.

Hts is on Facebook but he never posts political commentary there.

I used to occasionally post comments at the end of news articles, but a couple of years ago, media outlets started discontinuing their comments sections.

Ironically, Donna, that these pages aren't flooded with comments make these pages possible. If I had to weigh through loads of comments looking for spam, bot posts and blatantly offensive comments, it wouldn't be worth my time and effort. That's probably what killed the forums on thehill.com and elsewhere. Thankfully, the participants here behave themselves.

Btw, I ran this morning with a couple of my pals. We routinely discuss politics as we run. Both as doctors have seen carnage inflicted by guns and would both like to see strict gun control measures. That I researched the statistics and laws regarding guns and formulate my thoughts for my posts here allows me to offer informed opinions on those and other matters.

That's what I hope as well and I think you might be right. There are usually only 3 or 4 of us who post regularly yet look at the number of views !! I suspect there are probably a lot of lurkers out there! 👍

I agree that monitoring the comments sections probably got to be too much of a headache for media companies. Social media tends to attract drunk posters, extremists, and people who are more comfortable being confrontational online than they are in-person.

FYI, as Donna says, I am on Facebook which I use to maintain contact with relatives and friends.

I started out at SS on the old Religion board. There were some vigorous exchanges there, then I migrated to the Politics board and found those eccentric characters.

I do Twitter but only passively. I may "like" a few Tweets a week.
