Check the poll that 538 rates as the second most accurate.

Actually, 57.6% support prohibitions more strict than the Mississippi law before the Supreme Court.

Please, Dems, please, please, please effin PLEASE...make abortion to the moment of birth the cornerstone this fall's election.

You're so toast!

The Trafalgar Group poll uses loaded language so as to make the poll worthless. The poll's wording for that 11.6% result is "legal up until moment of birth including partial birth". That sort of abortion is performed in only the most dire of circumstances by a doctor when the mother's life is at risk, not as a capricious last minute choice. The awful choice would be to save the mother or save the baby.

The Democrats' position is that doctors should be able to do their life-saving work without political interference--including making life-or-death decisions.

Bull$hit. "Legal up until moment of birth including partial birth" is precisely what the Women's Health Protection Act allows. Almost no one can go there.

pb himself would allow abortion to protect the life of the mother, to the very end. But, pb and pret'near 90% of Americans would not give women carte blanche on abortion up to the moment of birth.

You live in a land of blue insanity so no worries to you but I'm confident that you're going to find, when people settle this through their legislatures, regulations pb will be comfortable with will prevail much more than your Women's Health Protection Act.

So how would you rewrite the proposed law?

I've said that I agonize over this but, probably, abortion illegal after the first trimester (which is what the poll suggests is a majority opinion) except to protect the life of the mother.

  5. by Donna on May 19, 2022 1:13 pm
How would you legislate "except to protect the life of the mother"?

  6. by HatetheSwamp on May 19, 2022 1:28 pm

Sorry, Donna. I don't write legislation. I had to read the Women's Health Protection Act multiple times to be sure I understood it.

I can't answer your question in a satisfactory way...even to my satisfaction.

But, I believe that when a woman's pregnancy threatens her life, her life takes priority over the baby's.

Interestingly, back in the day, Evie and I talked this through hypothetically, for herself, she would have been inclined to give priority to the baby's life over hers, much to my chagrin.

Surely you must have an opinion on who should make that decision.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on May 19, 2022 1:55 pm

    Huh?

That decision should be made by the woman and her doctor, according to the law.

  9. by Donna on May 19, 2022 2:03 pm
Here we go again. You know damned well what I'm asking.

  10. by HatetheSwamp on May 19, 2022 2:09 pm

    Apparently, I damned well don't!

  11. by Donna on May 19, 2022 2:56 pm
Well you're either really stupid or you're a liar.

I said, "Surely you must have an opinion on who should make that decision."

You know damned well that I didn't ask you what the law says.

"You". What is "your" opinion on who should make that decision?

  12. by HatetheSwamp on May 19, 2022 3:08 pm

    What!!!!!?

My effin answer: That decision should be made by the woman and her doctor, according to the law.

    WTF!!!!!!

  13. by Donna on May 19, 2022 3:21 pm
Do you agree with that portion of the law?

  14. by HatetheSwamp on May 19, 2022 3:38 pm

    Sorry. I'm lost.

  15. by Donna on May 19, 2022 4:20 pm
You're full of shit. I don't even know why I bother trying to hold a conversation with you.

  16. by HatetheSwamp on May 20, 2022 6:30 am

So, tell me. What bill are you referring to when you ask me if I support that portion?
