A case in point: Florida's 2022 House Bill 1557: Parental Rights in Education...

...which LGBTQ wokester flame fanners have mislabeled, "Don't Say Gay."

In another thread, I linked to a Miami Herald article which gave access to the text of the law, officially known as the "Parental Rights in Education Act."

Reading it doesn't inspire. It's legislation-ese. As legislation goes, it's not particularly lengthy but it goes on for several pages.

ONE ITSY BITSY, MINISCULE SECTION HAS TO DO WITH WHAT TEACHERS CAN'T TEACH STUDENTS BETWEEN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE.

The legislation does precisely what I've been saying. It expands and defines the rights of parents over their children's education.

The law limits the ability of Big Brother to control students and parents. It is about liberty. Freedom. The power of the citizen over government. And, one little section is about restricting Big Brother from "classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity."

One, to paraphrase po, "effin" section.

But, LGBT wokesters, even our normally reasonably level headed Donna, won't let it go.

The fascinating thing, to me, is what your LGBTers are doing.

The legislators of Florida did the small government/libertarian thing: They limited government/expanded individual freedom...

And, the wokesters?

The wokesters channeled Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and James Dobson from the 1970s...

...and drew up battle lines for a Culture War.

Honestly? I have to laugh.

It never worked in the 1970s and 80s for the Christian Right to get all self-righteous, proclaim themselves to be a Moral Majority and rally their troops in a, "You and me against the world" songfest. (See link. S'cute.)

It didn't work for the fundies 50 years ago. And, declaring a Culture War battle ain't working for the wokesters in the 020s.

It's that the wokesters, who control the White House AND Congress, are playing Small Ball and resorting to Culture warmongering that amuses me.

But, pb says, have at it! Lie, as you have about the Florida law. Get all fussed up. Create your woke little tempest in a teapot. Pitch your hissies. Enjoy.

The nation seems to be moving on without you.

    Both parties distort issues.

However, that "one little section" singles out and forbids classroom instruction (the intro to the legislation says "discussion") about LGBTQ people. Since discussions about gender identity and sexual orientation only arise when you're talking about LGBTQ people, the authors of the legislation apparently don't want teachers to talk to K-3 kids about LGBTQ people. They want to erase us like they want to erase the impact that racial discrimiation has had on people of color as a whole.

And of course what's driving all of these complaints about public schools is the issue of school choice, which would happen through voucher programs. They want to be able to use taxpayer dollars to send their kids to Christian schools. They've been at this for decades.

    No.

    Backwards.

What's driving this all is the yearning of people to be free. To be Americans. To, again, experience the joy of living in the reality that "we have been endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights."

    It's ironic.

You Blue MAGA, well, honestly, fascists, overplayed your hand during the pandemic.

Ans, now, you have a whole nation leaving you in its dust, seeking freedom.

  3. by Donna on April 26, 2022 7:43 am
Freedom through targeted restrictions against groups you don't like. Got it.

You guys are always quick to complain about Big Brother, that is, unless you agree with Big Brother. Then you love Big Brother.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 8:01 am

Perhaps. A discussion for another thread.

But, that's not what's happening in this case.

Why should your ignorance and fear of LGBTQs and CRT take away my right to have my children and grandchildren learn about systemic racism, predjudice against LGBTQs; what they are, the harm each can do to all of us, and how we all can continue to work to eliminate it?

You see, Hate, you and your version of what the Republican Party has morphed into is based on hate, the dyslexia of newspeak, and Ayn Rand's philosophy that selfishness is the highest virtue.

  6. by Donna on April 26, 2022 8:09 am
Apparently Hts objects to the freedom of objecting to part of a piece of legislation, I guess because that part doesn't affect him personally. And you know, what's good for Hts should be good for everyone, I guess, right?

  7. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 8:15 am

    isle,

As the Book of Proverbs instructs, "Raise up children in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it."

You'll never see me telling you not to teach your kids and grandkids about CRT. Pass on your homophilia. Please!

But, it's not your right to empower Big Brother to foist those things on the rest of us.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 8:22 am

By all means, Donna, object away. This is an effin representative republic. That's what we're all about.

That whole law empowers parents and frees students from Big Brother intrusion. You are on shaky ground in picking out one sentence in that whole effin law to pretend that it doesn't fit the rest. But,...

    ...do your thing.

That's, truly, what this country does.

Whoever wrote that or believe it never had kids.

It's the "when they are old part" that confounds. You'll never really know.

"You are on shaky ground in picking out one sentence in that whole effin law to pretend that it doesn't fit the rest. But,..." - Hts

I'm pretending no such thing. I'm simply objecting to singling out LGBTQ people. What? We can't object to one provision in a law?

  12. by islander on April 26, 2022 9:14 am
” But, it's not your right to empower Big Brother to foist those things on the rest of us”

Of course it’s my right to have my kids taught social studies in school, as well as biology, history, geography, etc. Learning about systemic racism, it’s history, and the prejudice against LGBTQs that's present today in a large segment of our society is very important. I have no doubt you understand why.

Why wouldn’t you yourself want to learn about these things and why wouldn’t you want the younger generation to know about them?

Sociology is the study of how human beings interact with one another, specifically within the context of different social structures, institutions, and frameworks. The goal of the sociologist is to gain insights into the nature of human behavior, including how it influences and is influenced by society...

  13. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 9:18 am

Please object. And, I'll even take you seriously when you show me any of the following words in the law:

    Lesbian
    Gay
    Bisexual
    Transgender...or any other keyword.

Until you do, I'll continue to disagree with your opinion, concluding that you're being paranoid.

  14. by Donna on April 26, 2022 9:25 am
You know damned well that the only reason the topic of gender identity or sexual orientation would come up is if there were a discussion about LGBTQ people.

  15. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 9:49 am

    Donna,

Sincerely, I know no such thing.

I follow the media on the right very closely. No one. At all. Ever. Has praised the law because it puts LGBTs in their place.

It's always about freeing students and parents from governmental intrusion. Always. And, that's precisely what the whole effin law does.

I think you're doing nuthin more that practicing Blue MAGA delusions of omniscience.

  16. by Donna on April 26, 2022 11:17 am
I think you're doing nothing more than practicing you're usual denialism.

Back in the day, parents left the curriculum up to educated people whose life's work was devoted to education. Nowadays conservatives have taken to micromanaging everything, even to the point of passing laws to insert themselves between medical professionals and their patients.

Back in the 80s, one of my older brothers told me that he would object if a gay teacher was teaching his kids. Our family attended a mainline protestant church where some members objected to a then-recently hired choir director and his partner simply because they were gay.

I grew up around that crap. Although conservatives generally aren't as homophobic as those days, that mindset still exists among many conservatives, and those are the people who are behind the anti-LGBTQ laws that are being foisted on the rest of us.

  17. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 11:27 am

But, what you're advocating is Big Brother inserting itself between parents and their kindergarten age children.

The law doesn't say that public school teachers can't address these issues ever...

...only among students between kindergarten and third grade.

An overwhelming majority of Americans think the LGBT objections to the law are overreaching and unreasonable. I wholeheartedly agree.

Hate wrote: "But, what you're advocating is Big Brother inserting itself between parents and their kindergarten age children."

    Wrong!

You want politicians; if they think it can gain them votes, to be able insert themselves in between our educators and their students. You have no problem with politicians>/i> interfering with a students education for political gain.

If a politician can deceptively manipulate and frighten naïve and gullible people into believing that 5 to 8 year old kids are being taught that white people are bad and/or are teachers are introducing these little kids to different sexual life styles and subtly swaying them to favor one over another, your fine with that…as long as you think it is advantageous in helping one of your Republican politicians to defeat his or her Democrat opponent.

I don’t think you are that dumb or naïve not to know that this is what this is all about, but I do think you accept this kind of deception because of your extremely partisanship.

One of us is that dumb and naíve. I'm pretty sure it ain't me.

"One of us is that dumb and naíve. I'm pretty sure it ain't me."

Says the Dunning–Kruger effect poster boy who still believes that Trump was the legitimate winner of the 2020 election.

  21. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 4:47 pm

pb believes that there was a significant voter fraud in the 020 election and that we'll never know.

  22. by Curt_Anderson on April 26, 2022 5:01 pm
"pb believes that there was a significant voter fraud in the 020 election and that we'll never know."

Meaning that all the GOP lawyers, forensic audits, Mike Lindell, recounts of recounts, FOX News, NewsMax, and the other Trump-supporting investigative reporters couldn't find evidence of "significant" (or otherwise) voter fraud that would have changed the electoral count of a single state in a year and half.

That "we'll never know" could be said about any election if you aren't willing to accept the official results. Did Alf Landon beat FDR in 1936? We'll never know. Did Dewey defeat Truman? We'll never know.

  23. by HatetheSwamp on April 26, 2022 5:20 pm

As is the case with nearly half of likely voters, I distrust the result of the election.

  24. by Donna on April 26, 2022 5:27 pm
We elect school boards along with local, state, and federal governments. We elect "big brother".

Conservatives usually come around to liberal policies. It just takes them longer.
