McCarthy thought the Donald Trump should resign after the January 6th insurrection. He thought he could rally Republicans in the House and Senate, and of course Democrats, to impeach the president if Trump did not resign before that.

Before reading this the last I heard McCarthy had denied saying what he is recorded saying.

The Republican party is populated by hypocrites, sycophants and spineless cowards.
