Notice HtS gets a shoutout in the last paragraph, although not explicitly by name.

A federal judge in D.C. on Thursday delivered a scathing rebuke of former President Donald Trump and expressed dismay over the state of American politics just moments after a jury found a defendant charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot guilty on all charges.

"You know, I think our democracy is in trouble," Judge Reggie Walton said at the conclusion of the third jury trial for a defendant charged in the Capitol assault. "Because unfortunately, we have charlatans like our former president, who doesn't in my view really care about democracy, but only about power. And as a result of that, it's tearing this country apart."

Walton, an appointee of former President George W. Bush and one of the most senior judges on the D.C. court, said that he's received letters from people around the country expressing concern the justice system isn't confronting Jan. 6 -- which he called an "insurgency," with the seriousness it deserves.

"I have a concern that we have, unfortunately, American citizens who were so gullible that they were willing to accept what was being said without any proof that the allegations about the election had any merit whatsoever," Walton said. "People are just outraged at how they feel our system is not taking seriously what happened on that day because of their fear of the future of this country."

    Baha!

Y'know, I think that there's a chance that our "democracy,"...really our constitutional republic, may be in trouble.

And, the thing is that, because of your side's TDS, you are fueling the potential fire.

I haven't forgotten that this all started when you were confident that it could be easily demonstrated that OrangeMan orchestrated the attack on the Capitol. Uh uh. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

You're still grasping at straws. What's becoming clear is what Trump did was legal. He hoped to expose the fact that the election was fixed through the Electoral Count Act.

It's that law that is the threat to our, uh, democracy.

    Citing the authority of Mitch!!!!!

What Trump did is absolutely legal. Mitch doesn't suggest that it was illegal. In fact, he points out that the Dems themselves tried it three times in this century.

    Bottom line.

Trump followed the law. That law is the risk to the Republic, as Mitch said.

  5. by islander on April 15, 2022 5:25 am

Truth is that which conforms to reality. Doesn't matter who attests to something, if what the person say conforms to reality it's true...even when it is someone from your side of the fence telling the truth.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on April 15, 2022 5:40 am

There are times when Mitch can be eloquent. But, don't miss the fact that he pointed out that the Dems are the real problem here.

The truth...if you UNDERSTAND...bahahahahahahahahahaha, is that the GOPs stopped Trump's effort to use the Electoral Count Act to overturn the election. If Trump wins the Electoral College in 024, will the congressional Dems try again what they tried in recent GOP victories...

...will you support them if they do?

If I UNDERSTAND you? You will.

What 'you' said is false. What McConnell said was true the Democrats protested the outcome of previous elections!

Now, if you think what Trump did was legal. I want you to hear, "the rest of the story" ...🍻

Thing is: Your January 6 lynch mob has been searching for a link between the "mob" and OrangeMan...to no avail, still.

And, this is what proves that you are deranged:

Trump's behavior after his speech is despicable...as pb said...

    ...but it ain't illegal.

I gotta ask. Did you actually watch your video? It shoots you opinion to h, e, double 🏒 .

  9. by islander on April 15, 2022 8:03 am
I watched the video but you seemed not to have watched most of it. Since you are a true believer in a stolen election, I realize how painful it must be for you to watch it, but you really should.

At 1:20 into the video, McConnell specifically made it clear that Trump was practically and morally responsible for provoking the attack on our government on Jan. 6. "No question about it".

Beginning at 17:24, he explained why the Senate itself couldn't convict him since Trump was no longer in office at the time of the impeachment trial...However!...At 17:24 into the video, McConnell said Trump could indeed be tried and held liable in a criminal court of law.

So, you ARE making my point.

What Trump did was despicable. Mitch didn't say it was illegal. Criminal. In fact, he said that what Trump did does not meet the legal definition if incitement.

And, of course, Trump can be held accountable in a criminal court of law. Has he been? Exactly.

Your January 6 Committee lynch mob has been going bonkers to get the goods on Trump...to no avail.

In the end, they won't. You can take that to the bank.

”What's becoming clear is what Trump did was legal. He hoped to expose the fact that the election was fixed through the Electoral Count Act” ---Hate

    🤣 🤣 🤣

As the evidence is released it’s becoming increasingly clear that what Trump did was indeed illegal. He tried to illegally overturn an election and provoked a crowd into attacking our Capital.

“he [McConnell] said that what Trump did does not meet the legal definition if incitement.”

No he didn’t. He said there was no question as to his guilt.

You can try to use semantics to pretend Mitch didn’t say Trump didn't provoke/incite a riot but it won’t work, people can see with their own eyes Mitch say Trump was practically and morally responsible for what took place!

    From Legal Dictionary:

    "Incite

Also found in: Dictionary, Thesaurus, Idioms.
    Incite

To arouse; urge; provoke; encourage; spur on; goad; stir up; instigate; set in motion; as in to incite a riot. Also, generally, in Criminal Law to instigate, persuade, or move another to commit a crime; in this sense nearly synonymous with abet

Incite means to encourage somebody to do something violent, illegal or unpleasant especially by making them angry or excited."

McConnell made it perfectly clear that Trump did just that.

As to Trump not having been found guilty in a criminal court? Nobody has claimed that he has. How could he, since the trial hasn’t taken place yet.

I imagine someone should alert the DoJ of the "Islander" Doctrine.

It's past time for Trump to be indicted.

  13. by islander on April 15, 2022 1:49 pm

Yes ! The “islander Doctrine” 👍 Not only should the insurrectionist ‘grunts’, the ones destroying government property and killing people be held accountable for their crimes. But so should those at the top, the ones involved in provoking their minions to violence! And this would include even the president!

  14. by HatetheSwamp on April 15, 2022 2:32 pm

    Great!

Send an email off to Merrick Garland.

  15. by islander on April 15, 2022 2:49 pm

    Don't need to.

Garland is already pursuing the "islander doctrine".

  16. by HatetheSwamp on April 15, 2022 2:53 pm

Just a friendly word: Don't hold your breath.

  17. by islander on April 15, 2022 3:04 pm

Granted it took a long time, but that's what the crime boss supporters said. But look what happened to Capone, and Gotti, etc.

I, however, "can" actually hold my breath for a long time.
