(Dems) used it for partisan purposes to go after Trump because they disagreed with him. One of the real disadvantages of doing that is the more you weaponize it and turn it into a partisan cudgel, you know, what's good for the goose is good for the gander," Cruz said.

"Probably the most compelling is the utter lawlessness of President Biden's refusal to enforce the border. His decision to just defy federal immigration laws and allow 2 million people to come here unimpeded in direct contravention of his obligation under Article Two of the Constitution to take care that the laws be faithfully executed," he said.

And, Cruz is correct. I believe that everyone who posts here has expressed the opinion that the US need new immigration law. But, we all saw Joe promise to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution."

On immigration he has blatant put himself above the Constitution. If any President is impeachable, it's Joe and it's over immigration. But, the country would be better served by the GOPs passing reasonable immigration law.

Trump was not impeached twice because Democrats "disagreed with him". Some of those who voted for impeachment were aligned with him on most votes.

Biden will be pretty good shape even if the Republicans control Congress next year if they have make stuff up as a reason to impeach him.

(Austin American-Statesman)There were 1.7 million Border Patrol encounters on the southwestern border in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, according to the data page updated Oct. 22. Excluding the recently released September data, which was published after Patrick made his statement, there were 1.5 million encounters.

But 1.7 million encounters do not mean 1.7 million people tried to cross the border. Customs and Border Protection indicated in a news release on August operations that just over 1 million individuals were encountered year-to-date in fiscal 2021. A news release on September operations indicates agents encountered 142,710 individuals on the Southwest border in September.

Incidentally. the non-partisan Migration Policy Institute estimates 500,000 to 600,000 people entered the country without authorization and were not apprehended in 2020. Because the Border Patrol has been apprehending a higher share of people over time, the number of people who were not apprehended in fiscal 2021 was likely far fewer.
