I don't care what anybody says. Trump's trials won't help his poll numbers.

We don’t really know Joe Biden or Donald Trump. Maybe we should listen to those who do.

Very interesting article but, TDS? Oy Vey!

As the anniversary of the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol approaches, three retired U.S. generals have warned that another insurrection could occur after the 2024 presidential election and the military could instigate it.

These was no insurrection.

The operative word in that retired general's scenario is "could". I don't think it's likely, but it's possible. Especially if there are few too many soldiers who think like Gen. Michael Flynn in the ranks.

This is why I think that people with TDS are a more serious threat to our Republic than antiSwampers. AntiSwampers are devoted to the Republic.

"Drain the swamp is a metaphor that means to root out corruption. It’s often used in politics."

Your use of the term "swamp", "antiSwampers" etc. doesn't match any dictionary definition that I've ever seen. Trump and his cronies are unparalleled in their corruption. They are the poster boys and girls of political, business and legal corruption.

But using your definition for the moment, you would need to show me some evidence that antiSwampers are devoted to the republic. The MAGA crowd is a personality cult and they have a warped view of patriotism and America's Constitution.

As I said in another thread, the most compelling evidence that the antiSwamp is devoted to the Republic is that, as much as most of us believe that the Flatulent Fool was elected through nefarious means, we are the loyal opposition. We love the Republic far more than we despise your side for cheating, which we are convinced happened.

  5. by Curt_Anderson on January 1, 2022 7:34 pm
    That is not evidence.

Accusing Democrats of election cheating is taking a page from the Nazi playbook when they accused Jews of corrupt business practices.

Once people are convinced the other side is underhanded and cheating despite a lack of evidence, then any retaliation including Krystalnacht or January Sixth seems justified.

It's interesting, and a matter of concern that people can be intimately familiar with the same data and sincerely interpret it in different ways.

I'm aghast that Donna is sincere in calling Abraham Lincoln a racist, for instance. If Lincoln is a racist, what was Nathan Bedford Forrest!!!!!?

As far as I can tell, January 6 was not an insurrection. The people involved had no interest in overthrowing the government. Rightly or wrongly, they were convinced that the Constitution was being abused. They, we're defending the Constitution and if they'd somehow have succeeded, the US government would still have functioned, and with their support.

You're doing no one any good by hyperbolizing. It's what Blue MAGAs often do. It does no one any good.

  8. by Curt_Anderson on January 2, 2022 8:44 am
Of course Abraham Lincoln was a racist. Can you imagine any current candidate for American office being married to a spouse whose family owned slaves? Mary Todd had slaves. In the context of the times Lincoln was not considered racist. That's because practically everybody in those days were very racist. But by our standards today Lincoln clearly was a racist. He would also be considered sexist by today's standards. There were no women in the Team of Rivals.

Some 700 people involved in the insurrection have been charged with various crimes. Some have already been sent to prison for five years.

Besides their goal of hanging Mike Pence, their goal was to re-install somebody who was not re-elected into the White House. What is more antithetical to our democracy than having an unelected president?

    Curt,

It's amazing how much subjectivity is our truth.

Certainly, some in that crowd of what?, 100,000? rioted. Some had genuine evil for the g'ment in their hearts.

If a significant minor portion of the 100,000 had the overthrow of the government in mind, you could legitimately call it an insurrection but most of the 100,000 left for an early bird special at Denny's or IHOP. And nearly all of the people who did stroll on down to the Capitol didn't even THINK about entering the Capitol.

    It wasn't an insurrection.

    HtS,
Despite the fact that the events on January 6, 2021 meet the dictionary definition of an insurrection, you and many of your fellow Republicans believe it was merely a protest. Your argument that it didn't meet some subjective number or percent of participants to label it an insurrection is bogus.

John Brown and others were convicted of insurrection and there were only a couple dozen of Brown's followers involved.

I spotted your typo! You left out the letter [y] but I still understood what you were saying. I know it was you, Hate, talking to pb again but guess what! I agree! It IS amazing how much subjectivity is your truth. And it would be true no matter which of you was speaking to the other.
