Local fresh food may be growing in your garden, on your kitchen windowsill, at your neighbor's, in a community garden or park, or on the outskirts of town at a farm. The place that these efforts all come together is the Farmer's Market, where an abundance of vegetables, fruit, cheese, bread, wine, soap, eggs, herbs, nuts, sweets, gourmet lunch, art and crafted items adorn the tables under the tents. When you buy directly from the farmer at the market, or through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, the farmer has a better chance of making a living wage, and can invest in soil fertility and water conservation. It is the beginning of the growing season and many people are busy coordinating volunteers, facilitating meetings, and promoting growers, artisans, and nurturers. When you "buy local," your dollar multiplies as it circulates within the community.
