Balinese A more playful breed. A better companion. More vocal. Medium activity level High activity level Good with kids. Medium sized. Long Coat. Minimal grooming required. Long tail. Genetically sound. Bengal breeder, Candace McWhorter offers her opinions, "They are very playful, smart, talkative, fond of water, short haired, affectionate, curious, can learn tricks. Because they are so smart they need companionship--- human or other animal. I do not suggest bengals for people who are gone all day at work and are leaving the kitten/cat alone. Cranial deformities occur in many lines. "The Burmese is a very active and intelligent cat. It loves human companionship, however it is not always the perfect companion for children - not so much for the sake of the children, but for the sake of cat/kitten. Because Burmese cats loves people as much as they do, they often have problems setting limits with rough handling from children, which could mean a trip to the vet's office. All colours of Burmese should have golden yellow eyes and their very short coats should feel like touching silk (many breeders have problems with eye colour, which tend to get greenish, and poor quality of the coat).""

Persian Photo and comments courtesy Donna DeGroot, Prideomine Persians. A moderately playful breed. A good companion. Less vocal. Relaxed demeanor. Medium sized. Large sized. Long Coat Long tail. Genetically sound. Kathy Joiner notes, "(Some) Persians require lots of grooming. The hair of some has been referred to as "cotton candy like" and must be groomed often or else the knots and mats become unbearable for the cat and owners (True, fortunately "cotton candy" occurs less than half the time. More often the coat requires less attention-DeGroot) Persians have an occasional health condition referred to as PKD that receives a lot of attention (To follow up on Kathy's thought, one third of all Persians have PKD, and most will live a normal life even if they have it -DeGroot.) On a side note, if it is a show quality Persian with the extreme smooshed nose look, their eyes require daily wiping." (This problem is due not to sinus obstruction but blocked tear ducts that cause the tears to spill oner the eye lid and stain the Fur under the eyes. -DeGroot)

Mixed breed cat Mixed breed cats come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They are generally healthier and have fewer behavioral issues than pure breeds, as they have the advantage of a large gene pool giving them a genetic superiority. Due to fact that about half the cats in the world are mixed breed cats, they are less expensive, if there is any cost at all. Since you can't reliably predict what a kitten will look or act like when mature, consider adopting an adult mixed breed cat from an animal shelter. There is never a shortage of mixed breed cats.
