I might have given it a 5/5. It could have fully equalled the other 5/5 test, in insight if not complexity. But that last question really rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, multiple choice or essay? With multiple choice it's incredibly easy to figure out the answer even if you know nothing about the question just from wording and context, but with essays, you can add nuance to get extra and partial credit (depending on whether you're adding depth to a correct answer or shoving relevant facts into an incorrect answer). That question really smacked of poor (or shallow) reasoning. So the test falls down to a 4/5.

It was also pretty obvious that the writer had a dim view of Slytherin House. I mean, I don't recall stupid sadism or evil being Slytherin traits. Strategic ruthlessness, sure. But stupidity and evil? It was unsurprising then that I got Ravenclaw>Gryffindor>Hufflepuff>>Slytherin. Oh, and I suspect Time Turners were put there since "lol u can spend mor tyme going to class." If that's all you use a Time Turner to do, you are an incredibly uncreative person. Don't give me the "you can't change the past" tripe either. You may not be able to change the past, but the only person you need to trick, epistemologically speaking, is yourself. With enough creativity and a dash of luck (cooperative circumstance, more precisely), you can set up stable time loops so you don't even need to trick yourself. It's stuff like that that makes me think the testwriter really didn't think these things through. Even JK Rowling smashed the Time Turners when she realized how big of a plot hole it was.

I'm actually surprised that it did that good a job of sifting the Ivies, MIT, Caltech, and Stanford into the top 20. I would have expected a little more error and variance. I didn't give it a 5 since, despite the almost supernatural accuracy of the results, the questions were fairly mundane. A little more insight into the campus culture and the worldview of the student body and alumni would have gone a long way toward securing my 5/5.

Laughable stereotypes and ignorance, random convoluted misspellings, and obvious Muslim (I'm guessing Pakistani) framing bias. Calling synagogues "temple of israëls religion." I think it's the ë that cracks me up. I don't usually recommend tests for everyone, but everyone should take this test, if just to laugh at the sheer idiocy. I recommend reading up on what language Lebanese Christians speak and the attitude Puritans bore toward Christmas before taking it. Pretty much everything else is self-evident. Definite 5/5. It's hard to be this giftedly bad.

I can work with that. Some of the questions were a bit too definite, though. When they ask whether you believe in God or Heaven, the idea that "we can never know" and "God exists" are incompatible beliefs is a bit...too pat. How would a person like me who believes that we can never know, but who chooses to exercise the virtue of faith, who chooses to believe despite the lack of an external basis for belief, answer? I chose "one God," but it really doesn't capture the full depth of my thoughts on the matter. That ambiguity drags the rating down a bit.

Surprisingly, the framing itself was actually pretty fair, which is more than I can say for certain other tests. Of course, the idea that I'm remotely a "left-wing neoliberal" would only make sense to someone who is far enough to the left that Clinton and Thatcher are mostly indistinguishable. Perspectives and all that. Still, at least the author made an attempt to counteract his/her natural biases, and any illogic in the results is a natural consequence of what bias remains. I can respect a little blurring as a result of an honest difference in perspectives.

The only real issues I can identify is a general problem that I have with the Star Wars universe. Namely, if Light and Dark are so easily defined, and if the Force inevitably brings the Light to victory through old fashioned Campbellian heroism (it's almost as if *gasp* we're in a story!), why would anyone draw from the Dark Side? Surely an ambitious Palpatine would try to find loopholes in the Light Side rather than bang his head in futility against the all-powerful Force. But I can't fault the testmaker for a problem with the source. I think my unwillingness to answer Dark Jedi or Sith cost me Palpatine points. I agree that Obi Wan and Yoda are tied for most similar, but in style if not in intent, Palpatine is a close second. I have always favored subtlety and pragmatism. I guess I'm too pragmatic for an inherently cartoonish universe. The reason I rate it 4 rather than 5 isn't the results but rather the lack of anything truly brilliant. It's flawlessly competent, i.e. 4/5.

I could rate it 4/5. What's messed up is the testmaker's manipulation of the results algorithm to put everyone within a thousand political miles of libertarianism as a libertarian. I mean, even if my ideals are very libertarian, my policy preferences are tempered with a heavy dose of Burkean conservatism. I don't think my answers were sufficiently un-conservative that "right-conservative" would be my second lowest result. I think the algorithm says more about the testmaker's biases than my own. Overall, 4/5 for questions, 1/5 for results generation, so 2.5/5 rounded up to 3.

Better than I expected. Most academic feminists would probably consider me a soft antifeminist, but I guess equalism isn't as hated in broader society as it is in liberal arts curricula. The only question I thought was that egregious was the abortion one. I mean, I think few would dispute that the extreme case of aborting a day before birth is infanticide, and I think even the total pro-lifers would excuse aborting the day of conception as something...less than murder, perhaps even less than immoral. Thankfully, "No Preference" is always there when the question is too black and white.

I think matching up personalities is a more complicated affair than asking "would you randomly help someone deliver a message? If so, you're Hermes!" I mean, my motives would be classically Athenan. Knowledge is power, and a brief trip to help someone is a small price to pay for valuable information. It might have been better for the testmaker to have included motives and context. Saying the message was sealed, say, or otherwise eliminating obvious alternate motives. Especially when that alternate motivation would have made the difference in a tiebreaker.

I can see how heterodox Christians might be miffed, since it seems to focus more on distinguishing orthodox Christians and sifting out the heterodox with buzzwords. But it worked out well enough for me, so I'm not all that inclined to care. Still, the phrasing was a bit vague at places, e.g. the question of whether there is a literal heaven and hell. Does it mean the childish image of a physical lake of fire and a bunch of guys playing harps in a cloudscape? Or does "literal" also extend to a far greater spiritual pain of absolute pride and separation from God and the far greater spiritual pleasure of being one at purpose (if not nature; I'm not a pantheist) with God and his plan? Of course, a nitpick or two isn't enough to drag my rating that far.

I am that rarest of breeds, the rock-ribbed conservative Yankee, so I can see where my sociology might give off a liberal Democratic vibe over a centrist one for second place. Still, I thought some of the stereotypes were tacky. The book one especially. I mean, at least a third of the Democratic Party is poor minorities. The least and most educated congregate in the Democratic Party. It's the median that gathers in the Republican. It's not at all a reliable indicator. If it were more ambitious, I would rate it lower for disappointment's sake. But I can't fault something self-consciously dull for turning in a dull result.

In theory, it's completely irrelevant, and even as a proxy for house preference, it's utterly redundant. Of course, the test confirmed the Slytherin>=Ravenclaw>Gryffindor>>>Hufflepuff dynamic that most of the tests yield. The funny thing is that duty, a Hufflepuff virtue, is one of my biggest motivators. The duty to achieve greatness and insight befitting my individual nature and family status. Roman virtues don't translate all that well to the Harry Potter world... But I digress. Anyway, 3/5. If we disregard the color question, 4/5, since I reserve 5/5 for that one at the top of the Google results.

One question asked something similar to "do you believe homosexuals have the right to 'marry?'" with "Marry" in quotation marks as if it did not constitute as real marriage. Another question asked if I would be willing to vote for a woman president. The answer to that question does not depend on one's political views, but on deeply ingrained, socialized beliefs on the capabilities of women in traditionally male careers. HOPEFULLY, it also depends on the merit of the candidate. Yet another question asked about the definition of a hate crime. I can understand asking about wanting to include sexuality (not JUST homosexuality, but all sexualities) in the definition, but then the author included race in the question. Race is already a constitutionally protected trait and any crime against a person based on race is already defined as a hate crime. This quiz was poorly written and clearly biased in some areas.

For instance there is a question about "sanctity" of people's bodies. That question reflects the personal views of the author, rather than an objective view of the issue, which is obviously abortion. In this case, it is apparent the author is a fan abortions being legal. Other questions lumped things together that don't belong together, such as the question asking about whether one should better one's self and whether one should better their community. Those last two are dogs I would never adopt due to the sheer size and American Eskimo dog sheds way too much! So I would offer that is survey does not accurately reflect the choice I did make for my dog. I scored as anti-feminist, supposedly claiming patriarchy is natural. This is troubling and inaccurate, but because the quiz is limited, this faulty result generated. I answered that women's self-defense is not important in ending violence against women, but there's no room to express why. Victim-blaming is the problem. Women should not have to train themselves to fight violence when it reaches them; we should address the cultural attitudes that allow violence against women to be so pervasive. The sixth question about the most important goals already being achieved is particularly limited. Feminists are diverse, each subset having different goals. The goals common among all feminists have been achieved. The ones that remain are subjective based on one's sub-feminism. The fact that ONE of 24 statements addresses abortion is also troublesome. For the complex issue of reproductive choice, one statement so crudely worded "Abortion is murder" is not effective. What about special cases? What about contraception? Sexual morality? With 9 potential results, a mere 24 statements is too little on which to base a result. This is my first visit to SelectSmart.com, so I took a quick look around the site to gather an idea of it. Given that this site also provides quizzes on what anime series suits you, I don't expect a quiz about feminism to be thorough. But it's critical for the public typically on this site to gain a clearer idea of feminism.

My choices are not just three prominent democrats and 25 republicans. Your selector is easily the most popular one out there, and you shouldn't pretend third party candidates don't exist. This is much less important to me, but while I'm commenting, I'll mention that I think you should have a wider array of answers. For example, on health care, the only two choices are "repeal Obamacare" and "keep Obamacare". How about support a single-payer "medicare for all" option? We need more granularity in quiz options to reflect the wide spectrum of political leanings.

Newt Gingrich was listed as my top choice, yet he favors, FDR Social programs, the four progressive freedoms and a general broadening of liberal principles over founding principles. He has even gone so far as to state that FDR was the best President the U.S. has ever had. I believe him to be the worst president in History. Romney was also ranked very high for me, but he supports things like "Romney care". While he has stated that health care is a state's rights issue and should be repealed on the federal level, his own State mandated health care is a dismal failure which is devastating to business and also violates the 5th Amendment as applied to the States through the 14th Amendment. Neither of these candidates, in my opinion, represent my position and I say this based on what they have said and done in the past.

When I look at what is returned at the "top", there were clear "violations" of my selections. I think something is gummed up. I went back and altered my answered to try to get and to avoid certain dogs, but the list stayed quite inflexible with its ranking. Good idea and I wish it would work. Let me know if you get it fixed.

However, the problem with the quiz was the fact that you could predict who the questions were comparing you to. I happen to spend hours a day listening to what these politicians say and anyone who says that Hilliary Clinton and Barack Obama say mostly true statements is not paying attention, or is clearly biased. To give you some examples, when the president keeps stating that the Congress is not doing anything about jobs is a total lie; why don't you look up all of the jobs bill the Congress has passed and see what the Senate has done with them (hint, nothing); and don't even get me started with Fast and Furious, how about the lies about what is in the health care bill, what about Fannie and Freddie, how about with the first stimulus, the President said if we pass it the unemployment rate will not go above 8%, I could probably go on for another hour. For this reason I will not pass this site along to friends. Thanks
