(NY Times)Jacob Chansley, who stormed onto the Senate floor in face paint and a horned hat, accepted a deal under which federal prosecutors will recommend a sentence of 41 to 51 months in prison.

Mr. Chansley, who says he has now lost faith in Mr. Trump, remained in the spotlight even after his arrest.

In February, his lawyer, Albert Watkins, persuaded a federal judge to order the jail where Mr. Chansley was being detained to provide him with a strict diet of organic meals. The next month, Mr. Chansley gave a widely watched interview to “60 Minutes,” saying that his actions on Jan. 6 were not an attack on the nation, but rather a way to “bring God back into the Senate.”

So he was doing God's work...? He thought that God would have totally approved of his behavior in the Capital that day...?

    He's crazy, po, crazy.

But, notice, and I'm sure you hate this. He did it for God, not for OrangeMan!!!
Apparently, it ain't all about Trump, after all!!!!

Sean, who used to post on SelectSmart, lost a very dear friend of his on Sept 1st from COVID. He's really broken up about it - even started a new FB page in his honor. Here's the latest thing Sean had to say about his friend's death:

I lay in bed, as I have many times, thousands of hours, trying to devise a cure for conservatism.

My friend John died of conservatism on Wednesday. He was 54.

John was an incredibly deep, complex person, one of the smarter I've known. And yet this very simple concept -- 'there is a pandemic, get the available vaccine' -- was denied his mind.

    Why?

John died because of his reactivity to symbols: Flags, Bibles, crosses, white skin, the penis, elephants, red baseball caps. Myriad others. Symbols of tribe.

Tribe = safety. This is easy enough to understand: Tribe has been critical to human survival since the beginning.

And yet he was deceived by tribe, destroyed by tribe. And not sacrificed in any way that was beneficial to the tribe; he was simply sacrificed.

I am reactive to tribe and to tribal symbols, as well. If I approach a home and see a rainbow flag and a peace sign and a Black Lives Matter poster, I assume things. I assume that they are my tribe.

But I don't blindly trust. I don't automatically believe whatever they believe. Some significant portion of those folks are anti-vax to the point of irrationality. Very many of them -- hell, all of us -- are wrong about all sorts of things. And so I maintain my independence, I maintain critical thought.

Conservatism is based in fear. And John's own conservatism was based in apocalyptic religious mythology: He expected the forces of evil to appear, to manipulate people to their destruction.

And in fact, that is exactly what happened -- to John. These heads on screens talked to him through the ether, and they manipulated him to his death. It is exactly what he might have expected to happen. It is the sort of scenario he and I breathlessly talked about for hours in our youth. So why did he not see this threat coming?

    Symbols. Tribalism.

He put aside his own reason, and, based upon symbols, gave his mind over to those he perceived as his tribe. And they took his life.

I understand so much of this ... and yet I am mystified. Is there any way to free these people from fealty to their destroyers? To short-circuit their reactivity, their vulnerability, to symbolism?

I have other loved ones under thrall to these psychopaths. Must they blindly die as well?

Sean is more tolerant than me. I don't have conservative friends. Certainly not dear ones. I am polite to conservative acquaintances and neighbors but they are not my friends. I also don't have any smokers, anti-vaxxers or religious nuts in my circle.

Btw, Sean had his own serious health problems, no? How is he?

Sean and John were pretty much lifelong friends. Back in the day, Sean managed John's rock band. Sean's also a recovered evangelical Christian, so maybe they met through the church - I don't know.

Sean's been doing very well since his heart valve replacement. He's still living up on the central CA coast. He has a pretty large following on Facebook.

    Interesting.

Our oldest and dearest friend, since high school, is the most progressive person we know.

There's never a dull moment when we're together.

    Aw dang, Curt.

pb just presented a case that he is a more superior human being than you.

Don't feel to badly though. He has to do it with everyone, somehow, to appease his desperately fragile ego.

    Donna,
But I am big enough to admit a fault which makes me the superior person...but since I just announced my superiority, I am not the more humble person which makes HtS the superior person... Dang, foiled again!

pb just presented a case that he is a more superior human being than you.

Superior? I don't think of it that way...

...but, if you choose to think of me as being superior, fine. Bahahahaha!

Y'know, earlier in my life, I worked
all of my way through a Liberal Arts graduate school to achieve a degree.

You know who I am. On the conservative side of libertarian. Back then, I was more conservative and less libertarian than I am now.

Liberal Arts grad schools are very woke places where tolerance of the unwoke is not valued. Through much effort, I found a way, not only to survive but, ultimately, to enjoy being among the woke and to enter into warm, genuine friendships with some of them.

    I don't regret it.

And, I'm better off for it.

It seems to me that there's a sort of Amish otherworldly separation about some of you here in your Blue MAGA progressivesness. Keep them unwoke sinners away from me!!!!! I don't even know any conservatives!

I'll hold on to my hyper progressive high school friend and cherish my years among the woke...and, also, the Trump lovers I know.

As Fleetwood Mac sang, You can go your own way.

Am I superior to you? No, certainly not. But, I'm rarely bored.
