This is the real-life Handmaid's Tale. A true cautionary tale for the US, which has our own far religious right dreaming of a theocracy that would impose a particular brand of Christianity, drive women from the workforce and solely into childbirth, and control all politics.

The American religious right dreaming of a theocracy!!!!!?

I don't think so.

Islam was established on the notion of the theocracy. Technically, Old Testament Judaism promotes theocracy. However, modern day Israel is closer to being a democracy than is the United States.

The truth is that far right Christians, for the most part, descend from dissenting, outsider religious groups...particularly, the Baptists who are probably the core of the Christian right.

No doubt, right wing Christians work hard to advance their cause through involvement in government. But, a theocracy? Ba!

Joy's brainless, not like Joe is. Joe's mind has left the building. Joy has allowed hate to destroy her ability to reason. Oy vey!

Dominionists are a minority, but they do exist, and they have the same general mindset of Muslim theocrats like the Taliban.

I just read an interesting article on this topic - Christian Dominionists Meet at Trump’s Washington Hotel to Answer the “Divine Call to War”
    truthout.org

According to Boston, the religious right has tried to distance itself from Reconstructionists, labeling them “as a fringe,” but “that’s only because the former finds the latter’s overt enthusiasm for mixing fundamentalism with fascism embarrassing.”

Amusing article but, Donna, the absolute truth is that the history of the religious traditions that almost all Christian right people come from are the most fierce defenders of religious freedom.

Certainly, they believe that the best thing, in this case, for America, is that Christian principles would guide its public policy and they preach involvement in the American republic. But, to make Christianity the law of the land?, no way!

Most...almost all...members of the Christian right would fight efforts to create a Christian theocracy more fiercely than would you.

I know that you believe this stuff but I spent most of my life intimately involved in institutionalized Christianity. I don't see it. What I do see is conspiracy theory thinking, as I've said to you before.

So you're denying the existence of Dominionists in the US?

"Most...almost all...members of the Christian right would fight efforts to create a Christian theocracy more fiercely than would you." -pb

Either you are blitheringly stupid or you are outright lying.

As if no Christian right organization has ever tried to make their religious dogma Law in this country. Gimme a fucking break, pb.

    No.

I read some of the Rushdoony stuff back in the 1980s. Weird. And, of the sort that Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and James Dobson would oppose with every drop of sweat.

You know how strongly I disagree with you on this. One error conspiracy theorists, and bigots too, make is to conflate, too easily, what really can't be reduced to one thing.

Sure. There is a minuscule number of Dominionists around. They're wacky enough to be interesting but they're nothing but a loud belch.

  6. by Ponderer on September 1, 2021 9:19 am
You should read this then, pb. You'd really enjoy it. And it would educate you immensely.

  7. by Donna on September 1, 2021 9:20 am
I said that Dominionists are a minority, so I don't understand your argument with me.

  8. by Ponderer on September 1, 2021 9:23 am
They want to fully infiltrate our government, pb. And they've made very disquieting advancements in that mission in recent years.

You really need to educate yourself on what the hell you're talking about. You seem to have no idea what these people are doing.

And it does not take many of them to do it either.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on September 1, 2021 9:24 am

    Donna,

    My argument has two parts.

    1. You are making these whackos out to be of a kind with Christian fundamentalists. They ain't.

    2. They are an ant hill which you're turning into Pike's Peak.

  10. by Donna on September 1, 2021 9:28 am
I'm doing neither, and neither did the truthout piece which said they're a minority.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on September 1, 2021 9:33 am

And, I'm saying that to call them, simply, a minority, is to grossly overestimate their number and consequence.

They are not nearly as significant as they are weird.

  12. by Ponderer on September 1, 2021 9:36 am
Republicans are a minority. But look how they've managed to fuck up this whole country with their selfish, sociopathic policies and actions.
