Conservative Republicans in the House are shooting down a request by President Joe Biden to approve increased funding for Ukraine and other military assistance, decrying the effort as nonnegotiable.

“No. This should be a non-starter for the House GOP,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said in a statement. “It’s time to stand up for Americans and against the uniparty.”

“We still don’t have an accurate accounting of the $113 billion we have already sent to Ukraine,” Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) said. “With the disaster that is taking place on our southern border, why are we even considering this?”

...recent polling shows the amount of support among Republicans to provide financial assistance has shrunk over the last year. Roughly 62% of Democrats support contributing increased aid to Ukraine compared to just 28% of Republicans, according to a study from the Brookings Institution.

It’s unclear whether House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will bring the proposal to the floor for a vote, vowing earlier this year that any Ukraine-related funding must come through the regular appropriations process rather than a supplemental aid request.

pb predicts that, in the end, the Doddering Old Fool will get what he wants, or most of it.

But, next year? Dunno.

Congress needs to take back their war powers. It was a dumb idea to hand it over to ONE PERSON in the first place (not to mention unconstitutional) - but it has since become clear as day all it has led to is the MIC bribing presidents (and parties) to go to war for no good reason. How ANYONE can NOT see this after wasting 20 FREAKING YEARS and at least $4 TRILLION in Afghanistan and then handing the country back to the very people the MIC claimed was the problem is beyond me.

WHAT ABOUT CREATING A COUNTRY WHERE TERRORISTS CAN ROAM FREE WITHOUT FEAR OF RETRIBUTION????!!! 🥺

WHAT ABOUT THE REPRESSED AGHANI WOMEN???!!!! 😩

    (lip quiver)

This country is filled with naive ultra-maroons looking to be fleeced. 😂

A couple years ago it was a reason to go to war with the taliban.

Now it's a reason to leave a few billion dollars of weapons behind for the taliban as we leave the country because the MIC found an even bigger money hole in Ukraine.

Indy and the "Reds" never got the irony in the "Reds" analogy.

irony a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character.

The only difference between the GOP and the DNC is the GOP is honest about being rightwing assholes. The Ds embrace being rightwing assholes - they just won't admit it in public.
