Among those personalities affected are Jeff Van Gundy, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson, Suzy Kolber, and Jalen Rose, the New York Post reported. A source within the network told the Post that the layoffs would spare no "sacred cows."

That's a cable thing, peebs. I've said it a million times - cable is dead. That includes sports channels too. There's just too much information out there already. I don't view any of those folks as "sacred cows" though. Jalen Rose, Keyshawn Johnson and Max Kellerman are co-hosts of daytime shows that just regurgitate the same info throughout the day. Kellerman is obsessed with boxing - a dead sport. Johnson never had an original idea in his life. Suzy Kolber is the third wheel on some NFL program (I think). Jeff Van Gundy is their most annoying NBA color guy - he was due for retirement years ago. He's been on at least a decade - drives me nuts when I have to watch him during the playoffs.

Got nothing to do with Disney or DeSantis - sorry. 😌

Don't let indy see this. He's studied all of dinneys industrial health and swears there's nothing wrong with the company. Forbes says otherwise also.

Stock's up 33 cents today. Somebody must have taken the fam to see Elemental, OD.

  4. by Indy! on June 30, 2023 9:08 pm

You got me curious about Forbes, OD - so I looked into it. The link is below. They go thru all the reasons Disney's stock is down - covid (as I said), yada, yada - most of it from a loss of subscribers to it's streaming service Disney+ in India. They met still all of their Wall Street projections. The whole + channels thing is a bit of a stretch for all these networks doing it imho. They're trying to save cable but the reality is cable is a dying industry (as I've said many times on this board). Why would people want to pay EVEN MORE for cable when they are getting out of it altogether? So I suspect Disney is getting hit harder simply because they have a larger investment being a larger media corp. But I could be wrong.

That's all list under TOPLINE, KEY FACTS, KEY BACKGROUND, CRUCIAL QUOTE because it's important - with all the financial details if you're interested. So where do they have the DeSantis thing you guys think is the major problem for Disney? It's the very last thing in the article listed as...

    TANGENT 😂

Disney is contending with a messy political battle in Florida, filing a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for his attempt to revoke the company’s special political status for its Disney World theme park outside of Orlando, a move that came after Disney criticized DeSantis’ legislative agenda. In a recent note to clients, Daiwa analyst Jonathan Kees upgraded Disney rival Comcast’s price target by about 5%, citing Comcast’s lack of distraction by Florida “political risks like its much larger parks, studios, and broadcast/linear networks peer.”

Do you notice anything about that part? Absolutely nothing about how the DeSantis fluff-up is hurting their bottom line. 😘

It appears that Disney is in deep doodoo.

NEW ‘INDIANA JONES’ MOVIE TRACKING TO BE BOX OFFICE DISASTER

Deadline reported the three-day haul isn’t expected to surpass $65 million at 4,500 theaters across the country. For comparison, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” pulled in just north of $100 million during its initial three-day run in 2008.

"Dial of Destiny” also didn’t come cheap for Disney. The production cost is believed to be around $300 million, according to The Wrap.

More on the Disney demise: Disney resorts to re-release of "classics." The new [woke] stuff sucks.

indy- then you lost in off hours trading. Net gain 0.13. Which is still a gain, and yet only half of what you said.

You guys are trying way too hard. Read the Forbes article - whatever is happening at Disney has nothing to do with DeSantis.

Again. I'm answering you. If disney fails or not is immaterial to me. Universal is doing great, maybe orlando can figure something out to bring more people to it. It has crappy restaurants (mostly chain), disney stores, and high crime. Nothing worth visiting other than the parks, which you should stay at to avoid the city.

  10. by Indy! on July 1, 2023 10:02 am

First off, it's comical you believe Disney failing is even a question. Secondly, Orlando is the only major city in Florida that doesn't have a beach, OD. What do you think the attraction was before Disney arrived? They were a gas station for truckers - the only "attraction" they had was the strip joints on Orange Blossom Trail. Now they have the parks as well as a very successful film and music industry (also thanks to Disney). Just because you and peebs are not visiting doesn't mean no one else stops in.

Who would have thought cable companies would go out of business. I cut the cord several years ago...best decision ever

As I said plenty of times - cable is dead. It's only the over 60 crowd keeping them alive for the time being. ESPN has been a joke among sports fans for a couple decades now. They had a good idea when 24hr sports was a new thing. Now with all the social media and every other place you can get good sports info? They're dinosaurs sinking in the tar pit.

Again... this has nothing to do with DeSantis and your wingnutty friends who think they have the power to bring down titans. Stick to your local area - you MIGHT have the power to make something happen there.

Cable's best hope for a stay of execution is Trump's election in 024. Other than that...
