In the official framework made public on Wednesday, topics such as Black Lives Matter, slavery reparations and queer theory are no longer subjects to be taught. They are included only on a list of topics that states and school systems could suggest to students for end-of-the-year projects.

Looks like Ronnie D wins another one.

And, check out NBC's bitter headline: "AP African American studies course is watered down after pressure from Gov. Ron Desantis"

You progressive SwampLovers had better hope OrangeMan wins the GOP nomination. Otherwise?, gird your loins.

So among other things, Florida students will not be taught about the Civil War era promise of Forty Acres and a Mule. Or that the promise went unfulfilled because Andrew Johnson, Lincoln’s successor and a sympathizer with the South, overturned Special Field Order No. 15 which made that promise.

I don't recall another politician so openly determined to keep his constituents ignorant of history.

It's a gimmick that won't play well in blue or purple states.

    Curt,

As I understand it, everything in the original syllabus remains intact up to the fourth of four units, about 1960 forward. The slavery reparations, as I understand it, are those similar to what is under consideration in San Francisco. (See link)

    HtS,
So in Florida, history didn't happen 1960 onward.

    Curt,

I think that history will be taught without the era from 1960 on being infused with woke homilies. Ron didn't let your woke mob get away with it. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

I'm loving your woke angst over the DeSantis victory for reason and common sense. It's soooooooooooooo precious.

I wonder how Martin Luther King's death will be explained and taught in Florida. Or why there was a march on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.

Duh, Curt. That was DeSantis' point! The course abandoned legitimately important history to veer toward intersectionality, Black Queer theory and the writings of commie and progressive wackos.

    Lead,
Again, the elitist prig is making "assumptions" he knows nothing about. MLK is a major item that is brought up in US history several times. This is what I was talking about earlier, which apparently he didn't care to read or he chose to forget. It's the idea that we have made many mistakes in our history. But we're not the POC curt wants us to be. We have attempted to learn from our many mistakes. You're correct though. THAT is the point of what DeSantis wants in the books. It's also what the GOP wants told. No woke crap, just what happened. Of course, it may be better than what curt understands. This area went through Sherman's march to the sea (which curt said wasn't all that bad after the history was changed and he fell for it hook line and sinker). Interestingly, I was taught about the march in CO and was told how horrible it was. Of course, we also learned about the Buffalo Soldiers, because one of their large forts was in CO. Sand Creek was part of a racist governor's plot that took the CO guard there and murdered mostly women and children.

A big thing here is the treatment of indigenous tribes here before the mid 1800's. And honestly, the federal government had little to do with that. That's on the state government.

    OD,

You're going to be a valuable resource to the SS community as long as Florida and DeSantis are prominent in the news. You bring two things that will benefit us. One is the reality that you are a Floridian, an on the scene reporter. The other is that you consume fact and can, and want to, distinguish fact from propaganda.

Progressives are going to want to believe lies about DeSantis and, as they've demonstrated, they are happy to blast lies about DeSantis, as the Beatles sang, across the universe.

So, thanks. Just for being there.
