38 years ago, a KGB defector chillingly predicted modern America

A disturbing interview given by a KGB defector in 1984 describes America of today and outlines four stages of mass brainwashing used by the KGB.

Share 38 years ago, a KGB defector chillingly predicted modern America on LinkedIn. He has both the know-how and the intelligence to carry out very far-sighted and ingenious operations. We don’t know his endgame and neither do we know how much of his KGB training he still employs, but in light of current events, there may be a way for us to get a deeper understanding by studying the words of Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov, a former KGB agent who defected to Canada in 1970.

Bezmenov made the point that the work of the KGB mainly does not involve espionage, despite what our popular culture may tell us. Most of the work, 85% of it, was “a slow process which we call either ideological subversion, active measures, or psychological warfare.”

What does that mean? “What it basically means is: to change the perception of reality of every American to such an extent that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.”

Bezmenov described this process as “a great brainwashing” which has four basic stages. The first stage is called “demoralization” which takes from 15 to 20 years to achieve. According to the former KGB agent, that is the minimum number of years it takes to re-educateone generation of students that is normally exposed to the ideology of its country. In other words, the time it takes to change what the people are thinking.

He used the examples of 1960s hippies coming to positions of power in the ’80s in the government and businesses of America. Bezmenov claimed this generation was already “contaminated” by Marxist-Leninist values. Of course, this claim that many baby boomers are somehow espousing KGB-tainted ideas is hard to believe but Bezmenov’s larger point addressed why people who have been gradually “demoralized” are unable to understand that this has happened to them.

Referring to such people, Bezmenov said: “They are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern [alluding to Pavlov]. You can not change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information. Even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still can not change the basic perception and the logic of behavior.”

In another, somewhat terrifying excerpt, here’s what Bezmenov had to say about what is really happening in the United States. It may think it is living in peace, but it has been actively at war with Russia. And for some time:

“Most of the American politicians, media, and educational system trains another generation of people who think they are living at the peacetime,” said the former KGB agent. “False. United States is in a state of war: undeclared, total war against the basic principles and foundations of this system.”

Thank goodness we dodged that bullet that Yuri Bezmenov warned us of many years ago with our elections in 2020 and last week.

Russia’s meddling to get Donald Trump elected president is straight out of the old KGB playbook
Indeed, Trump’s gilded penthouse bears a striking resemblance to the palace of the deposed former leader of Ukraine and Putin ally, Viktor Yanukovych. When Yanukovych fled his palace in 2014, he left behind a dizzying array of documents and lavish accouterment, including a personal zoo. Yanukovych’s greed came with a high cost; ultimately it was his country’s sovereignty, economy, and the welfare of the Ukrainian people.

And yet, too many Americans still remain blind to the dangers of Trump’s presidency. As KGB defector Yuri Bezmenov told American television audiences three decades ago, when it comes to Russia’s plan for world domination, the American “will refuse to believe it until he receives a kick in the fat bottom. When a military boot crushes him, then he will understand it.”

How Trump got his party to love Russia
Some Republicans, such as Sens. John McCain (Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), are putting principle before party by protesting Trump’s coziness with a regime that the GOP’s previous nominee, Mitt Romney, rightly labeled America’s “number one geopolitical foe.” Yet they appear to be losing. This past week, facing pressure from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), the two backed down from their bipartisan push to establish a select committee charged with investigating Russian election interference.

In an interview recorded more than 30 years ago, Russian defector Yuri Bezmenov revealed the KGB’s counterintuitive approach to recruiting. “This was my instruction: Try to get into large-circulation, established conservative media. Reach . . . cynical, egocentric people who can look into your eyes with angelic expression and tell you a lie. These are the most recruit-able people, people who lack moral principles, who are either too greedy or suffer from self-importance.” Say this for Bezmenov: He knew his mark.

That was actually done in 2020. He's been talking about this since 2013 that's been recorded. And obviously, he was on the State Dept circut (et. al.) before then.

But of course you, isle, donna, pondy won't learn a damn thing... Just like he said.

There are actually about a dozen interviews of Bezmenov, all saying the same thing, and using updated information. The one's in the open are 2013- 2021.

Below is the Wagner group video. Welcome to the world.

    OD,
I don't see how you interpret Bezmenov warnings made many years ago about the left or American politics today. He seems to be warning us about creeping authoritarianism. No US president has had more authoritarian tendencies and admired foreign authoritarian leaders more than Donald Trump.

Opening comments from od's bigthink article:

For anyone who is still wondering, the Mueller Report makes it clear that Russian operatives played a role in the American elections of 2016 that resulted in the Presidency of Donald Trump. The true impact of that role is certainly open to debate. Since then, Trump has on occasion been quite nice to the Russian President Putin, occasionally seen as capitulating on important matters. Whether you believe Putin really has some kind of compromising material to make Trump do his bidding or if Trump is simply being nice to people who partially helped get him elected, or if you somehow believe, despite ample evidence to the contrary, that all this is much ado about nothing, the fact is President Putin is a very experienced former KGB officer.

...and his final comments from the same article:

Whether you think that is true may depend on your politics, but the reality of Russian active measures, as has been outlined in the recent indictments by the special counselor Robert Mueller, give Bezmenov’s words new urgency.

You missed the major piece of the video (which I doubt you listened to). About the movements and the complete lack of believing the russians were doing this for decades. He said you would. He was giddy about the "hippy movement" which already had Stalinism and Marxism mixed in with it. That was something the Russians hadn't figured on when they developed this in the mid to late 40's. And now, that "objectivity" is "normal" which is the point of the interview. The "immorality" of the Americans will be their downfall. We won't have to wage a war. They (Americans) will wage it within themselves.

I don't believe the Russians have the capabilities to do that now. They're extremely depleted and are having a lot of internal issues. I DO thing the Chinese do. And will.

  9. by Donna on November 14, 2022 12:45 pm

I know quite a few far-lefties who unwittingly peddle Russian propaganda.

  10. by Curt_Anderson on November 14, 2022 12:49 pm
Indy is one of those lefties. He frequently posted "Russia, Russia, Russia!" to protest any suggestion the Putin or his Russian bots flooding social networks impacted our elections.

  11. by Donna on November 14, 2022 1:52 pm

Speaking of Indy!, I wonder how he's taking DeSantis's win in his county.

  12. by oldedude on November 14, 2022 2:09 pm
The point is that they use virtually the entire left to exploit their ideas. He explains in the video that the ideas during the '60s, are now mainstream. That is a big piece of the undoing of the nation. The other is the splitting of the nation and the use of intimidation techniques within the American system (such as screaming at people in restaurants, shooting at politicians, killing police, and the general breakdown of "public decency.").

I've said it a couple of times. A Senior Sergeant in the Saud Military and I were talking. He even stated that the US will never last as long as "they" (Islam) will because we are not moral people. Drugs, prostitution, sexual deviancy, we murder each other, and there is no respect for even Christians.

That falls in line with what the Russians started before Putin.

The interesting thing in this, is that he says those that are doing this right now, are not going to be "put up with" in the new system. They will "disappear," especially the "free Thinkers" and those leading the revolution. There is no place for that in their system.

  13. by Donna on November 14, 2022 2:16 pm

The US has done all of those things and then some.

Propaganda is an inescapable reality. In the end, we're all responsible for our own politics.

  14. by oldedude on November 14, 2022 2:31 pm
Again, in the video. The point is that at some point (he thinks it's already past) is the point of no return and that we have doomed ourselves to be taken easily by another country. This is a guy who did this for a living for a few decades. And have to live under their rules of slave labor.

I think our fate was sealed with the emergence of China as a major world power. Like it or not, China was able to accomplish what they did through smart central planning via strong unified central government. That's the opposite of what our founders established. But you know what? If you have smart leadership, as China does, there's no better way to get a lot accomplished quickly.

The other is the splitting of the nation and the use of intimidation techniques within the American system (such as January 6th: breaking windows, screaming at people, stalking politicians, attacking police, smearing feces on the walls of the Capitol, building a gallows for Mike Pence and the general breakdown of "public decency.").

    I can't believe this!

    Two words:

    The Uyghurs

"Since 2014,[31][32] the Chinese government has subjected Uyghurs living in Xinjiang to widespread abuses that include forced sterilization[33][34][35] and forced labor.[36][37][38][39][40] Scholars estimate that at least one million Uyghurs have been arbitrarily detained in the Xinjiang internment camps since 2017;[41][42][43][44][45] Chinese government officials claim that these camps, created under CCP general secretary Xi Jinping's administration, serve the goals of ensuring adherence to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ideology, preventing separatism, fighting terrorism, and providing vocational training to Uyghurs.[39][41][46][47][48] Several scholars and Western governments consider this policy to be genocide." (From Wikipedia but if you're in doubt read the article and investigate the footnotes.)

    Now, THAT is central planning!

  18. by Donna on November 14, 2022 3:51 pm

    I know!

The other is the splitting of the nation and the use of intimidation techniques within the American system (by supporting an entire summer of $20MIL in damages to personal, corporate, and government buildings, shooting and attempting to assassinate members of congress, SCOTUS members, police and other first responders, blowing up anti abortion offices, supporting the murder of innocent people by allowing felons not to post bail, driving stores out of cities because the crime is too high for businesses to stay, forcing parents OUT of their children's lives by schools, usurping the constitution an using the federal agencies as a gestapo death's head unit for only a selected portion of the citizenry that supports the constitution, and deliberately breaking down any sort of common decency).
Gee, I guess living through one night we ALL condemned, is different than a whole summer, and a spring because the left didn't like the results of the election (and had to call in the National Guard who had to sleep in parking garages and on concrete floors in winter because no one in the city would house them).

  20. by Curt_Anderson on November 14, 2022 4:45 pm
    OD,
Yeah, you'd think Trump would have let the National Guard stay at his Trump hotel in the old DC post office. At least in the lobby, ballroom and hallways for some of them.

  21. by oldedude on November 14, 2022 4:58 pm
Interesting. I don't know of a Governor that would have sent his people there if they knew how they were going to be treated. Apparently, you never slept on frozen concrete in your life. Without electricity. You can't charge your cell phone and you have a light on all night. You (may) eat 2 meals a day because the azzholes in DC refused to make meals for the troops (which they were told would be there, just like normal quarters). My opinion? Fuk'em. I know the dims aren't humane, hate the military, and the constitution, but damn! If they can't do that, they don't deserve to be safe. Let it burn down.

  22. by oldedude on November 15, 2022 8:34 am
And the one thing you deflected on because you didn't actually listen to him, was that it's specifically the liberals they are hoping to take over. That makes it easier for the Russians/ Chinese to take control of the country.

    Cases in point:
While the Chinese Special Forces train to kill people, we are training ours to use the correct pronouns.

Liberal policies are creating confusion in different states. CA insists people go to electric vehicles, but they're doing brownouts because the grid can't take what they have now.

Felons are worth more than citizens. In NYC, a bodega owner was locked in jail without bond because he defended himself, while the guy who attacked a GOP politician with bladed brass knuckles was released within a couple of hours.

Portland decriminalizes drugs. And the Mexican government uses Philly to film a PSA to keep kids off of drugs, especially fentanyl and meth.

Liberals riot in the streets causing the most destructive riots in history, and relatively few were even arrested and most were released.

You seem particularly unhinged today, od. Did something unusual happen recently that put you in such a foul mood?

  24. by oldedude on November 15, 2022 9:05 pm
Nope. It's not unhinged. It's listening to some intel I've known for several years that is open now...

  25. by oldedude on November 15, 2022 9:12 pm
You can argue theory, but you can't argue facts. That's the truth.

  26. by oldedude on November 15, 2022 9:19 pm
"I don't see how you interpret Bezmenov warnings made many years ago about the left or American politics today. He seems to be warning us about creeping authoritarianism. No US president has had more authoritarian tendencies and admired foreign authoritarian leaders more than Donald Trump."

Because he says it? and no it isn't. Plain truth. Trump was "America First." that is a thorn is the Russians/ Chinese side. Look at now. Everything is in play, and you're the patsy. And you don't even get it... That's what he said... So You're the little cuckold for the new regime. the one that will bend over to keep himself alive. Do you understand that's what they're looking for?

  27. by oldedude on November 15, 2022 9:26 pm
Just to clarify. He didn't say that at all. What he wants is the "western liberalism" to take hold. This is to clear up my prior post.
