Even a day after Jan. 6, Trump balked at condemning the violence
(WaPo)One day after the last rioter had left the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Donald Trump’s advisers urged him to give an address to the nation to condemn the violence, demand accountability for those who had stormed the halls of Congress and declare the 2020 election to be decided.

He struggled to do it. Over the course of an hour of trying to tape the message, Trump resisted holding the rioters to account, trying to called them patriots, and refused to say the election was over, according to individuals familiar with the committee’s work.

The public could get its first glimpse of outtakes from that recording Thursday night, when the Jan. 6 committee plans to offer a bold conclusion in its eighth hearing: Not only did Trump do nothing despite repeated entreaties by senior aides to help end the violence, but he sat back and enjoyed watching it. He reluctantly condemned it — in a three-minute speech the evening of Jan. 7 — only after the efforts to overturn the 2020 election had failed and after aides told him that members of his own Cabinet were discussing invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

You know, I predicted long before the election that if Trump lost, he'd refuse to leave office. I wasn't exactly right, but I was was pretty darned close. I at least had the right idea.

Yes, I remember that. But it wasn't for a lack of trying (his trying to remain in office).

I expected him to be a poor loser, but he managed to go lower than my very low expectations of him. You may remember that I opined that Trump is not a man of personal courage so I didn't expect him to make an Alamo-like stand in the Oval Office.

Biden’s election was confirmed by Congress according to the Electoral Count Act on the scheduled day. President Clouseau was immaculated on schedule, peacefully and uneventfully, i.e., the same Doddering Old Fool whose RCP approval's now beyond-20.

Not having seen the Grand Finale, I praise the J6 Committee. They've provided compelling evidence that OrangeMan is an SOB.

But, ahhhhhhhhhhh, those halcyon days following the Capitol riot, when po was declaring, with confidence and glee, that Trump orchestrated an insurrection.

Actually, I'm going to miss these televised hearings. Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

I guess you think also that since John Hinckley wasn't successful in his assassination attempt of President Reagan, he should have been let of Scot-free.

Keep it up, Hts. You're looking more foolish by the minute.

Not to worry. Due to their ratings success, the January 6th Committee Hearings have been picked up for another season. Tonight is the season finale, not the series finale.

Absolutely, Donna. If Trump's guilty of something, string him up. PLEASE. GO DESANTIS!

But, Earth to Donna: You not liking him ain't a crime. Probably should be...but it ain't!

    Not yet, anyway.
