Has anybody heard a Trump defense?

I checked Breitbart, NewsMax and OANN to see if they had anything to say in rebuttal of hearings. So far, no discernable defense. One site simply ignored the hearings. That would be the head-in-the-sand defense.

One of the sites quoted Elise Stefanic saying people are more interested in the price of gas and inflation than the hearings. Matt Schlapp was supposed to be heading up coordinated response to whatever evidence the committee presented.

Breitbart opined that the committee did not connect Trump to the rioters today.

Trump released a 12-page missive in response to the committee hearing today. He complained about the Democrats' handling of the economy which is neither here nor there in regards to the subject matter. Trump regurgitated the same debunked claims that he's been making for the past year and a half. He even cited the "2000 Mules" film which today Bill Barr laughed at out loud for being so ridiculous in its premise and claims.

If Dipso Giuliani (I swear that I shall endeavor to never call him anything else in perpetuity) has any rock-solid evidence to support Trump's Big Lie, he should present it. He should present it to the public or.... take it to court and...

    um....

Wait a second. We've already been through this before.

  3. by Ponderer on June 13, 2022 6:50 pm

I saw that pic online today, Curt. Sums up Trump and his fellow insurrectionists pretty well, eh?

  4. by Curt_Anderson on June 13, 2022 6:54 pm
I hope the picture you saw didn't the same thought bubbles. Any similarity was coincidental. I thunk those up independently.

HA! Maybe here is where I saw it!

I skimmed the HILL article on Trump's response. Certainly, nuthin new.

    But, then,...

The Committee has produced nuthin new.

My prediction is that no news outlet on the right is going to give the hearings much attention,...

...unless the Committee produces a direct link between Trump and the actions of the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers: an email or text or voice mail, etc....

...and, if such evidence is produced and authenticated, no one will defend Trump. EVERYONE will demand Trump's indictment and conviction.

    As Teri Kanefield said,

"Ultimately, if Trump is brought down, it’s going to be by members of his inner circle. As I mentioned yesterday, the mob boss at the top insulates himself. If the people closest to Trump are willing to protect him, it gets very difficult to get to him"

After watching yesterday's hearing, I'm beginning to feel a bit more hopeful that we are starting to see this happen. Admittedly, like all mob bosses, Trump is an expert at shielding himself.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on June 14, 2022 4:59 am

Trump's too slimy to get caught. The only meaningful truth you're Committee has gotten to so far is that Ivanka agreed with Barr. Trump's not going down over that.

  9. by islander on June 14, 2022 5:52 am

Ivanka only expressed what the others close to Trump had made clear in their testimony; she too believed the big lie was B.S.

Why do you think she is the only one who said anything meaningful? And of course Truemp won't be brought down by her testimony alone...Evidence is cumulative and no one can seriously deny that they are presenting overwhelmingl evidence clearly demonstrating that the big lie is indeed false.

The more difficult part is to demonstrate Trump's state of mind...Did he know it was false or should he have known it was false.

See? I knew you hadn't watched any of the hearings.

Plus, just because you don't want to believe that anything new has been presented doesn't mean that in fact nothing new has been presented.

I know in your narcissism you believe you are, just as Trump does, but you are not the All Powerful Arbiter of What Is and What Isn't Reality.

"...unless the Committee produces a direct link between Trump and the actions of the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers: an email or text or voice mail, etc...." -Hate

See? I knew you haven't been watching any of the hearings. Something like that may well yet be presented, but that is not at all everything this whole case is about.

In a very direct way, his public pushing of the Big Lie, which he knew was not borne out by any facts or evidence, during the entire time from the election to January 6th was a direct cause of the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys planning out and implementing their coordinated attack on the Capitol on January 6th. His Big Lie fomented a violent coup attempt. And he wanted it to happen, as has also been proven.

But it's going to be all his numerous documented attempts to illegally subvert the will of the people by trying to get state officials to break the law for him and "find" whatever votes he thought he needed that are going to eventually be the biggest charges against him.

Explain what "brought down" would look like, isle.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on June 14, 2022 6:57 am

po, fine. What that pb wouldn't have already known, has come to light so far, except that Ivanka agreed with Bill Barr?

  14. by HatetheSwamp on June 14, 2022 7:03 am

po, I'm just sayin that, for Trump to be found criminally liable, that is the sort of connection that must be established. Trump will have to be shown to have ordered the riot.

It's already come out in court testimony, under oath, that the Proud Boys were pi$$ed at Trump because he only wanted to talk about the stolen election. He didn't want to act. They had to do that on their own.

  15. by Ponderer on June 14, 2022 7:06 am

Apparently, the now proven fact that he knew all the time while he was pushing his Big Lie that he lost the election is something you didn't... and still don't know.

  17. by Ponderer on June 14, 2022 7:26 am

Oh! So you've known all along that he knew all the time while he was pushing his Big Lie that he lost the election...?

" I'm just sayin that, for Trump to be found criminally liable, that is the sort of connection that must be established. Trump will have to be shown to have ordered the riot."

    Not true.

Although the evidence at this trial shows that Charles Manson was the leader of the conspiracy to commit these murders, there is no evidence that he actually killed anyone or directly ordered anyone to be killed.

"While it was later accepted at trial that Manson never expressly ordered the murders, his behavior was deemed to warrant a conviction of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Evidence pointed to Manson's obsession with inciting a race war" *

    Good point islander.

  21. by HatetheSwamp on June 14, 2022 8:02 am

My advice to you, isle, is that you not hold your breath in awaiting Trump's conviction.

  22. by Donna on June 14, 2022 8:09 am
I agree, Hts. A friend of mine has been convinced for a long time that Trump is going to do prison time. I keep telling her 'Nope, ain't gonna happen' but she's adamant. I think she's setting herself up for a huge disappointment.

  23. by HatetheSwamp on June 14, 2022 8:29 am

    Right, Donna.

You know that I think that Trump is despicable and it's for that reason, in part, that he'll never be convicted. Obviously, he's done what he's done always understanding what he can and can't be busted for.

  24. by Ponderer on June 14, 2022 10:26 am

Your admiration of Trump almost oozes outta the monitor as you write about him. I know you think you're hiding it well, but you really aren't.

You love how Your Criminal can commit crimes and not be brought to justice for any of them. You love that about him. I can almost see you smirking as you talk of the various and sundry crimes he's getting away with. You see his avoidance of responsibility for the crimes he commits as a strength, as an asset. You admire that ability in a leader. The immorality of who and what he is never enters into it for you. You still support him. You still defend him. You still admire him. And you always will. No matter what crimes are ever proven that he committed.

"My advice to you, isle, is that you not hold your breath in awaiting Trump's conviction" ---Hate

Odd thing for you to say, I hope my pointing out where you were wrong didn't upset you.

I have no idea whether Trump will ultimately be held accountable and convicted convicted of his crimes.

Naturally, I'd love to see that happen...Wouldn't you?

I'm a bit pessimistic about it actually happening so obviously I'm not holding my breath. But I also know that often times, even though it seems unlikely, one way or another good triumphs over evil. And maybe, just maybe, it will happen this time.

  28. by islander on June 14, 2022 12:33 pm
    Oh !

I just realized I didn't answer one of your questions. But if you really didn't understand what I meant, I'll be happy to explain.

    "Brought down?

Explain what "brought down" would look like, isle."

Answer: Trump being tried and convicted.
