If you are a Republican, that’s fine, but if you care about your party you've got to boot these thugs out in and bring the GOP back to what it's supposed to be !!!

As thing unfold, no one can not help but see how badly the GOP has been infected by this disease called “Conservative Christian Right Nationalism” which is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and has nothing to to with Christianity or love for our country. These people are destrying the Republican party and if they are not stopped will destroy our Democracy.

Click on the link to read the rest of today’s “Letter From An America. Here is an excerpt:

” McCarthy noted that Representative Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH) had just sent him a recent tweet from Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) about Cheney and that McCarthy was going to talk to Gaetz to get him to stop. “We saw what people would do in the Capitol,” he said. “These people came prepared with rope, with everything else.” Scalise agreed, saying “it’s potentially illegal what he’s doing.”
McCarthy singled out Representatives Gaetz and Mo Brooks (R-AL) as key culprits, but he and the others on the call also discussed Representatives Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), and Barry Moore (R-AL). McCarthy said he was going to be talking to those people because “this is serious sh*t,” and they needed “to cut this out.” “The country is too crazy,” he said. “I do not want to look back and think we caused something or we missed something and someone got hurt. I don’t want to play politics with any of that.”
And yet, of course, they did not cut it out. Instead, McCarthy did play politics with it. He caved, Cheney lost her position in House leadership, and Gonzalez, once seen as a rising star in the party, announced in September 2021 he would not run for reelection. Gonzalez’s vote to impeach Trump for inciting an insurrection and his support for an investigation into the events of January 6 led Trump supporters to threaten him and his family. In his announcement that he was leaving Congress, Gonzalez called Trump “a cancer for the country.”
Last night, after news broke of the recording, Gaetz issued a statement saying that McCarthy and Scalise “held views about President Trump and me that they shared on sniveling calls with Liz Cheney, not us. This is the behavior of weak men, not leaders…. While I was protecting President Trump, they were protecting Liz Cheney from criticism…. On the bright side, you no longer have to be a lobbyist with a $5,000 check to know what McCarthy and Scalise really think. You just have to listen to their own words as they disparage Trump and the Republicans in Congress who fight for him.”
Gaetz is clearly throwing himself entirely behind Trump. Even his language here is like that of the former president. While Gaetz’s political loyalty is part of a larger story, it is also worth remembering that Gaetz is still under investigation for sex trafficking, and two of his associates have pleaded guilty in that case. One admitted to sex trafficking, and the other admitted to drug and fraud charges. Both are cooperating with authorities. Seeing Trump back in power could smooth Gaetz’s potential legal troubles.

Two issues. One is that your characterization of these people as "thugs" is dismissive, judgmental, hateful and stinks of fascism.

As I've been proving to Donna, the GOP is the party of inclusion where acceptance is practiced and dialog is vivid and honest.

I really strongly disagree with the Trump-loving gang but I still grasp the big picture.

The USA is a representative republic built on democratic ideals. Everyone, because we have been endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, is empowered to speak freely and to live out their beliefs so long as no laws are broken.

We have a Bill of Rights. GOPs don't practice exclusion. Your side does and you want us, even if we don't agree with you, to behave like you.

    Ain't gunna happen.

Openness and inclusion are difficult to put into practice but, on our side, we're better off because we live them.

We're not going to do as you do. Thanks anyway.

It's hard to reason with thugs, since they'd rather intimidate and physically hurt people than talk. A playground bully is one kind of thug, and an armed robber is an even more dangerous one. The noun thug may have its oldest roots in the Sanskrit word sthaga-s, "cunning or fraudulent," and it's definitely related to the Marathi and Hindi thag, "cheat or swindler."

    Donald Trump is a thug.

When you dance with the devil, it never ends well. These guys thought they could dance with the devil for their own gain but ended up turning into thugs themselves.

"We're not going to do as you do. Thanks anyway"

I wouldn't expect you to act any different than they do.

Hts is proud that he's a member of a political party that welcomes neo-Nazis and White supremacists.

Yeah, Donna. I'm proud to be a citizen of the nation, "of the people, by the people and for the people."

Truly, honestly. I can't see how that would offend you.

The of, by and for quote is from Lincoln at Gettysburg...after The Emancipation Proclamation.

Over 600 effin thousand people died in a fight over the freedom of African Americans. The notion that those darkies might vote was the greatest possible offense many Americans. So, Lincoln created that description of this government. We are a nation that empowers all people.

Is it radical, risky? D*mn straight.

I recall the good old SS days when you represented yourself by the moniker "Power to the People."

Shame on you. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Those words now convict you of intolerance and hate.

I'm intolerant to Nazis, White supremacists, and people who are trying to destroy our democratic republic. Guilty as charged.

Bingo! And with that thought, I think we could all find a better use of our time. When I think of all of the endless hours I've wasted trying to reason with this guy, it makes me sad.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on April 28, 2022 8:03 am

What I don't get is how you think being intolerant toward someone will help transform them.

I get that it probably feels good to you to judge and condemn but making a difference? You'll have to splain that part.

'...your characterization of these people as "thugs" is dismissive, judgmental, hateful and stinks of fascism." -HtS

This is an example of what I mean when I mention Republican hypocrisy. HtS (including his previous incarnations) Routinely called President Obama a "thug". Apparently HtS didn't think his use of the word was dismissive, judgmental, hateful and stinks of fascism.

First, what do you mean by tolerant and intolerant? Do you mean, “put up with” or do you mean something like; in order to help transform them, we should accept that what they say and do, even though it is abhorrent to us and harmful to others because, after all, it’s just a “different” way of behaving and doing things?

And if we don’t accept the second version, does it means we’re intolerant? If you mean the latter then I don’t think being tolerant is a virtue and I fully agree that I am intolerant.

Second, unless the other person wants to transform him or her self, we are not going to change that person. Also…if the other person tells you that if you aren’t tolerant of their behavior, they won’t transform themselves, you are charging at windmills if you think you can somehow transform them. Such people already know that their behavior is wrong, but they derive pleasure from it and enjoy manipulating you.
