Last night my wife and I attended a Seder dinner at the house of a friend. Seder marks the first night of Passover. Passover is essentially a celebration of freedom. Historically it's the story of the Jews obtaining freedom from the Egyptians. At least at this Seder dinner there was much discussion about freedom in regards to contemporary situations including of course Ukraine.

None of my friends are religious in any overt sense. We pretty much range from agnostic to atheist. Although my Jewish friends including my wife are proud of being culturally Jewish and celebrate that fact.

Of the 16 people at the dinner, four are Jewish, two are Muslim, one person has no religious background at all, and the rest of us are from various Christian denominations. Two of the guests are from Afghanistan, one from South Africa, one Canadian and the rest of us from the United States. I have been friends with all but two of the guests who I met for the first time last night.

It was quite enlightening to hear different perspectives that people have.

Coincidentally I'm having a discussion with a Muslim and a couple of Christians in a Facebook UFO discussion group about the meaning of ancient texts. As you probably know, Muslims and Jews share common roots and follow the writings of many of the same authors. I guess that Passover and Easter happening concurrently this year has spawned these discussions. I've read the entire Bible and have formally studied many parts, but because I'm agnostic, I bring objectivity to these sorts of discussions.

...I bring objectivity to these sorts of discussions.

What's that old line? "Doth protest to much?"

    Bahahahahahahahahahaha.

If you're convinced of things that are impossible to know, it's impossible not to be biased towards those things. I hold no such beliefs nor do I reject them outright as atheists do. How does that not place me in a more objective position?

    In case you missed it...

    Donald J. Trump's Easter message:
“Happy Easter to all including the Radical Left Maniacs who are doing everything possible to destroy our Country. May they not succeed, but let them, nevertheless, be happy, healthy, wealthy, and well!”

Imagine that! An anti-Christ issuing an Easter message!

You have a heart, Donna. You take it with you everywhere you go. You can't turn it off. Mr Spock is a fictional character.

Of course you're free to wallow in your torrential flood of illogic which you parade daily on this forum, but I prefer to temper my emotions with logic.

    Donna,

Objective truth is a wonderful thing. But, I promise you this. If you want to have even an outside chance of appreciating Objective truth, admit that you always bring yourself to every life encounter.

When you are honest about the power and primacy of yourself, you be able to see through your own filters.

    Until then...

More sanctimony. You don't know me, pal. You don't know anyone here. None of us do. We're only seeing a snippet of each other.

What I know is that all of us are human. While I don't know you, I do know that if you live objectively, you're the first human to do it...

    ...though many have tried.

  11. by Donna on April 17, 2022 5:58 pm
I try, but of course I'm not always successful.
