President Biden was left empty-handed following an address at a North Carolina university Thursday.

There was no one else on stage and no one from the applauding crowd approached the president to exchange the pleasantry, according to footage of the event.

You have to watch the video. It's Inspector Clouseau at his best...

...yet heart-rending.

Not only is the man the victim of elder abuse. He's put on display for the whole world to see.

He expected someone to be there.

There have been times when I've assumed that someone who I thought was still in the room was still there, and I started speaking to them as I turned around only to discover that they'd left the room. I'm sure that everyone has done something like that.

"Moment a confused looking Biden sticks out his hand and appears to shake thin air after falsely claiming in speech that he had also been a 'full professor' at UPenn for four years"

  3. by Donna on April 16, 2022 7:55 pm
If you watched the video, you're lying. It happened exactly how I described.

However, you're right that Joe lied about having been a full professor at UPenn.

My first wife was a liar. I don't understand why some people lie.

  4. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 3:52 am

    Donna,

I'm not lying but you're raising an important question of what a lie is.

Almost all of my words in this thread are quotes of other peoples words. The few that are mine reflect my understanding of what happened.

The apparent depth of Joe's disorientation when no one was there to shake hand looked like an Inspector Clouseau moment.

But, Donna. You have to acknowledge this: Do some Googling. Many news outlets reported the story with the same take. It's not only pb who was moved by that moment.

Because pb has similar memories with his dad, as dad sunk more deeply into dementia, it was heart-rending for him. As much as Curt wants me to go to med school to be able to note that Joe's resembles my dad when dad had dementia, what Joe did in that moment is something I saw many times.

But, here's the thing: You accuse me of telling a lie because I honestly interpret that moment differently than do you. I ain't lying.

  5. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 4:09 am

    Is this a lie?

"Yes, the President was not confused or lost in any way," said Psaki in response to right-wing criticism of the strange handshaking gesture. "He was merely shaking hands with a real ghost. He is the first President to make this kind of progress with the ghost community and we are very proud of his accomplishments on that front."

(Oy! Does the BEE have Jen's voice down, or what?)

A lie is an attempt to deceive. It doesn't matter how you do it or what you say and there is no shortage of tactics a good liar can use.

  7. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 5:29 am

A lie is an attempt to deceive. It doesn't matter how you do it or what you say and there is no shortage of tactics a good liar can use.

    Bingo, isle.

I don't think that Joe lied in the moment he claimed to be a full professor at Penn. I don't think the Bee's article about Jen splaining that Joe "is the first President to make this kind of progress with the ghost community" is a lie, either.

And...and, this is what separates people with TDS from the rational world...Donald Trump doesn't lie either. He lives in his own world. As far as I can tell, he always speaks transparently from his own subjectivity and people who won't accept that are, for the most part, haters.

  8. by islander on April 17, 2022 6:02 am

No, people who don’t accept your description of Trump are not haters.

The tactics Trump uses are straight out fascist techniques for manipulating and deceiving people. He knows what he’s doing and he’s good at it.

  9. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 6:13 am

From where I am, your Trump remark is deranged. It's hate speech.

The tactics Trump uses are straight out fascist techniques for manipulating and deceiving people. He knows what he’s doing and he’s good at it.

You give Trump more credit than I do. Nevertheless, in the end...

...your comment is, really, a non sequitur.

I'd be interested to know what to what tactics you refer...

...but what we're discussing here is whether or not Trump is speaking "his" truth or attempting to deceive.

Trump believes what he says. He ain't attempting to deceive.

  10. by Donna on April 17, 2022 6:33 am
Hts: I watched the video. My account isn't based on someone else's description of it. It sounds to me like you're just taking the author's word.

  11. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 6:54 am

Forgive for repeating this because, in my opinion, you're the least guilty of this than anyone here on your side.

You're edging toward claiming omniscience. And, in my opinion, you've achieved sanctimony.

    So,...

...I linked to an article...ARTICLEI. If you did that, I'd have concluded that you were thinking independently and linked to a source illustrating that others share your opinion.

You, otoh, see my posts and my links and, in gross progressive sanctimony, assert that I, what?, am too stupid to have formed an independent interpretation of Joe's buffoonish behavior and, can only parrot others' thought.

    Offensive, Donna. Ridiculously offensive!

  12. by Donna on April 17, 2022 6:58 am
Good grief, Hts, the video clip I watched was embedded in the article link you posted.

  13. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 7:03 am

    Precisely.

And, between the two of us, you alone can develop an interpretation of it on your own. Right?

When I see the video, I can only parrot others!

    Got it!!!!!

I'd have never dreamed that your delusions of grandeur ran so close to your core!

  14. by Donna on April 17, 2022 7:07 am
As he turned to the right after his speech, he held out his hand and immediately noticed no one was standing to his right. There was no "shaking the air". Surprised, he looked off to stage- right where you could partially see people standing. Then he said something to someone offstage and then walked towards the back behind the podium.

Biden is definitely a liar, though. IMO the Democrats should teplace him with a better candidate in 2024.

  15. by islander on April 17, 2022 7:22 am

"...but what we're discussing here is whether or not Trump is speaking "his" truth or attempting to deceive. Trump believes what he says. He ain't attempting to deceive."

Can you give me an example of something that makes you believe (if you actually do) that Trump believes his own bullsh!t?

This is just "one" crafty example that shows me that he is a deceiver.

Trump retweeted an "unnamed lawyer" explaining how Rubio and Cruz couldn’t become president because they weren’t “natural born citizens” of the United States. Later, he insisted he wasn’t accountable because all he did was re-tweet something.

Here’s how Trump tried to get out of his responsibility for planting the seed of a falsehood in people’s minds, something he knew wasn’t true but people "just might believe to be be true"…It’s a common tactic that deceivers know and use quite often.

” I mean, let people make their own determination. I never looked at it [the tweet]. As somebody said he’s not eligible. And I retweeted it. I have 14 million people between Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, and I re-tweet things” ---Trump

  16. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 7:31 am

I get it. You watched the brief video, probably more than once by now. You've explained, very clearly, how you understand it.

But, more to the point, you've explained why you disagree with the writers of the articles I linked to, and...

...more significantly by now your certainly that I'm incapable of thinking for myself. That I can only parrot others.

The truth, as I see it, that many, many people know the context. That Joe very recently, AGAIN, claimed to be a former truck driver and he's the same guy who, mere moments before this video, had misremembered being a full-time professor at the U of Penn.

And, that the video shows a man, whose mind ain't right, experiencing a moment of dementia related confusion.

I reached that conclusion on my own, those links notwithstanding.

  17. by Donna on April 17, 2022 7:48 am
If the Democrats don't convince Biden not to run for re-election in 2024, Trump, who is a much bigger liar than Biden will win.

If Kamala runs, she won't win the primary. She was an unpopular candidate in 2020. No one likes her.

Suffice to say I don't like the way things seem to be going for the Dems in the next few years. Actually I don't like the way things are going in general ANYWHERE. I think the entire planet is in very deep shit.

Just read a piece about Hungarian president Viktor Orban who was recently re-elected. The central theme was that Hungarians, and increasingly Europeans are sick to death of immigrants from Africa and the Middle East pouring into their countries, which has become an even bigger issue now with the war in Ukraine and the economic havoc that it, along with COVID are having on their economies. Right-wing populist candidates have been gaining popularity for years on Europe. Le Pen and Macron are virtually tied in the polls. The French election is a week from today. Hold onto your hats.

Btw, I had Sheri look at that video. She said that what she saw wasn't a handshake, pointing out that Biden looked befuddled that someone wasn't there a split second before he raised his right hand, as to mean like 'What the fuck?'. I agree with Sheri.

  18. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 8:10 am

As I splained, Trump doesn't lie, at least as isle and I define lying.

I admire the way po and you always seem to have each other's back,...truly.

But, of course, I imagine that it goes without saying...disagree.

  19. by Donna on April 17, 2022 8:27 am
It's not about having each other's backs. For me it's about being objective, which based on what I've seen, most people, liberal as well as conservative, often are not. It's that adherence to objectivity that has put both Sheri and I at odds with progressives and so-called "woke" Democrats, including a big chunk of the trans community.

Btw, remember Junie? She has also come out very strongly against transwomen atheletes competing with cis (genetic) women as well as this fairly recent trend by some physicians to prescribe meds like testosterone, estrogen, and sex bormone blockers to young, self-diagnosed transpeople without having first putting them through thorough psychiatric evaluations, which was followed to a tee back in the day when Sheri and I transitioned - when medical "Standards of Care" were stricly adhered to throughout the medical community.

  20. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 9:46 am

It's that adherence to objectivity that has put both Sheri and I at odds with progressives and so-called "woke" Democrats, including a big chunk of the trans community.

Later this week, I'll take one step closer to age 70...as you'll be notified on Facebook.

In all my many years, I've never encountered anyone who lives less objectively than po. I've met some who live in their subjectivity nearly as much as po but, certainly, no one who marches to the beat of their own drum more uncompromisingly than po.

And, that you can’t see how purely and unabashedly po lives in the universe of po's creation says tons about you.

Please understand. Over the years, I've said this many times. As I always say, this is not criticism. It is absolutely the highest praise I can offer.

As I've been saying for more than a decade, I envy po. Subjectivity is truth and po is more in touch with subjectivity as anyone I know...more.

    She ain't objective.

  21. by Donna on April 17, 2022 9:53 am
I strongly recommend looking into a mirror.

  22. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 10:11 am

Oh, I do look in the mirror every day.

I covet po's life of heart over mind! I've said that over and over.

When I say that I wish I could live in my subjectivity like po does. I am being perfectly sincere.

  23. by Donna on April 17, 2022 10:49 am
If you look closely in that mirror, you should be able to see your own sanctimony, which you expressed in your post.

    We're all being sincere, Hts.

  24. by HatetheSwamp on April 17, 2022 11:36 am

Most of us are sincere, though I've expressed doubt about how honest Curt's sanctimony is.

Sadly, sincerity aside, many of us are either deluded or in denial.

  26. by oldedude on April 17, 2022 9:30 pm
So ther is some agreement. Look in the mirror. Some of us have actually looked looked at (or watched) parents in different forms of dementia for ever or at least the past 49 years. Like many others, We watch for different signs. Until youre there STFU. You're trying to politicize an input that you are speculating in.

  27. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 3:18 am

Actually, I think I'm the anti-sanctimone. I know that I'm not superior to everyone because I'm a prisoner to self.

  29. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 4:50 am

    Right.

I agree with your definition of lying. In my opinion, Trump doesn't lie. I'm convinced that he believes everything he says.

  30. by islander on April 18, 2022 5:01 am

So you think Trump believed Ted Cruz couldn't run for president?

  31. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 5:52 am

    Huh

  32. by islander on April 18, 2022 7:01 am

It went right over your head Hate.

    Apparently you can mouth the words but you don't understand what is meant by;

"A lie is an attempt to deceive. It doesn't matter how you do it or what you say and there is no shortage of tactics a good liar can use."

I gave you a clear example.

I'll repeat it to see if you can get it this time:

This is just "one" crafty example that shows that Trump is a deceiver.

Trump retweeted an "unnamed lawyer" explaining how Rubio and Cruz couldn’t become president because they weren’t “natural born citizens” of the United States. Later, he insisted he wasn’t accountable because all he did was re-tweet something.

Trump was misinformed. He made a factual error.

Were you thinking Trump's a genius?

  34. by islander on April 18, 2022 7:23 am

I knew you didn't understand it.

What factual error did he make?

  35. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 7:27 am

Easy one. Trump doesn't know what is in the Constitution. Duh. And, narcissist that he is, he didn't really know the truth about other people.

  36. by Donna on April 18, 2022 7:37 am
Yeah, I have to agree that that isn't the best example of Trump lying. He lied, what? something like 10,000 times? Surely there are better examples.

  37. by islander on April 18, 2022 7:39 am

    You just made that up.

Trump's defense was that he never said Cruz was ineligible.

  38. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 7:43 am

    Interesting.

One thing I've learned about the SwampMedia is that you can never trust a thing it reports about Trump. Ever.

  39. by Donna on April 18, 2022 7:55 am
Well you can look at court rulings regarding his fake charity and "university" where he was sued, lost the case, was fined as I recall $25 million in one of those suits. His fake charity and university were shut down by the courts, and he's forbidden to run any more charities in the state of NY.

  40. by islander on April 18, 2022 8:03 am

    Donna,
This was an example of "an attempt to deceive" which is a crafty form of lying.

It's one of the methods skilled liars use to try to deceive someone into believing that something that isn't true, while at the same time keeping themselves covered from any responsibility for their deception, such as, "I never said Cuz was ineligible".

Skilled liars know when and how to avoid the folly of asserting an "outright lie", yet are still able to deceive someone.

  41. by HatetheSwamp on April 18, 2022 8:18 am

    Donna,

Certainly, Trump is a crook. He's despicable.
