Toastmaster People - Shut the heck up and fix this thing. Somebody's going to hurt and somebody's going to lose a massive lawsuit and that won't make the shareholders happy, now will it?

I spoke with two customer relations workers and told the first one that I plan to do a website, and I gave the second one my website url (I posted about those conversations on my page).

I just put their unofficial semi-anonymous post to this board onto the page, too.

What a pathetic attitude about consumer safety.

My Toastmaster Toaster 328 started on fire this morning. It was a good thing I walked back into the kitchen. I was making some toast and the upper coil started sparking and a flame started up. I immediately turned the oven off. I found your site as I too wanted to warn the public. I had also noticed when I would open up the oven a fume of somesort would make my eyes water and almost burn.

One of these days someone will report that their kitchen caught fire or their child was blinded by shattered glass.

I urge everyone to use the links on my page to file a complaint to the company and the government agency. So far, neither has made a move to protect the public.

i noticed that the dial on my 3 month old toaster oven was sometimes getting stuck and severely burning my food. I knew it wasnt good, but i didnt think much of it until i had 2 pieces of toast catch fire within MINUTES (I walked out of my apartment to get a guitar pick from my neighbor) when i opened my door the alarms were going off and the toaster was flaming, it had melted everything plastic on itself and anything within a foot radius (It took out my blender AND my george forman grill!!!! this is the part that pisses me off most, IT NEVER JUST DAMAGES ITSELF, i guess i should be happy the damn thing didn't take me with it.) PLUS now I have no damn toaster and burned walls/countertop in my apartment which ill eventually have to pay for. If I wasnt so damn broke I would sue... Its too bad i took a hammer to the thing to try to get some of the plastic things off that it had melted to itself (without any luck by the way) I flipped out and started to just take my aggression out on the whole of the toaster, any sheet metal on it id bash with the hammer as hard as i could,.... then i threw the mangled, fire-stained thing (finally cool enough to handle) in the dumpster. I tend to find it hard to eat since my surgery and without a toaster oven to cook things quickly I probly wont eat at all, actually its true i havnt eaten since it happened about 28 hours ago... I rest my case. If I wasnt so broke I would sue the **** out of them, their products are so dangerous and of low quality that its embarassing to own one, ill get like an emmerson or somehting next time. 1. Can you still take the oven out of the dumpster, or is it gone? It's your evidence. That's the first thing. Do you have any witnesses to what happened?

2. What model of Toastmaster was it? Write down all the data from the label, the serial number and all.

3. Do you have any paperwork still from your purchases of all the items involved?

It wouldn't cost much to write a letter to Toastmaster, to take lots of pictures of the product and of the damage, and to get an estimate of all the damages. Then you can send them a bill! Keep a copy of everything, and document all your correspondence with them. Get names if you talk to them over the phone.

And for heavens sakes, do eat. It's just "stuff," and you weren't injured, that's the main thing.

I wish I could get it out, I didnt realize it was such a widespread problem. The dumpster gets emptied every morning so its long gone. Usually the one thing i am very meticulous about is photo-documenting everything like you said, and its good advice, I battled UPS for 6 months on a claim where they ruined all my stuff that i shipped in 11 different boxes, the boxes came in such a condition it was almost comical, the guy rolled the peices into my apartment, so im just really seriously burnt out from trying to win against countless stupid companies that dont have any employees that care. I moved form NY to Miami last Novembr and the change (in that regard) is sickening. No one values the work they do here from what ive seen. However, I think i can fix the blender and i know that my rage kind of screwed me on this one. I dont know what model it was, but it was like 19.99 at target... next time ill spend $60 if i need to, i need to read some consumer reports and then order one online, if you have any good links to alternatives to toastmaster with reviews that would be very helpful and it might catch the bastards attention... well moreso than you already have because when they realize people actually frequent the site and find alternatives and order them online theyll lose business. Thanks for having the energy to fight this war, im sorry i threw the thing out, i know every person in a crusade helps the cause.

Also, no, no witnesses, I live alone. After reading all your material, im glad at least I didnt have shards of molten glass shooting across the room (I guess that was the next step if I didnt realize it when I did. I sympathize with you greatly because you have children, if I had kids in the house and I found out all of the sudden I was making their food in basically a ticking time bomb. The cause of the defect I can definitely say on mine was a faulty dial that just didnt count down to 0, it would always get stuck, this time i wasnt there to babysit it...
