Tips for creating a SelectSmart.com selector & FAQ
1. SelectSmart.com allows editing after your selector is made. See The Member's Edit Page
2. To avoid potential loss of your work, we advise you to compose and save your questions and results items on separate document (Microsoft Word, etc.) An additional advantage is that you can spell check your work.
3. Your individual connection may time-out before you've completed your questions and results, this especially true of phoneline connections. Also if too many people are simultaneously creating selectors, problems may arise--so save your work!
  • "AARRGH! What if I didn't save my work and my questions and results don't show up on my selector?"
While the information is still fresh in your mind, edit the missing information back into your selector at The Member's Edit Page.
    4. You can create links to your own web pages from your results, questions or introduction using conventional html code.
  • For example, from the individual results of your selector, you might create links to your web page like this: <a href="http://www.YourWebsite.com/webpage.html">Result Item</A>
  • Or you can link to your graphic like this: <a href="http://www.YourWebsite.com/graphic.jpg">Result Item</A>
  • If you are interested in learning how to create a results graphics, see this page
    5. Add color and images to your selector. Using ordinary html coding you can enhance your selector.
  • For example: <SPAN STYLE="background:yellow">Highlighted Text</SPAN> produces Highlighted Text
  • Other colors can be used instead of "background:yellow" such as red, cyan, lightgreen, violet, pink, orange, lightgrey or lavender.
    6. More html coding tricks and samples can be found on various html tutorials.

QUESTION: MY QUESTIONS ARE NOT SHOWING UP!!!! What the hell?!?!

ANSWER: Ok, first, make sure you type up all your questions and answers on a notepad first. This is strongly suggested in case you lose connection, you slip, fall, and turn off the computer, etc. Something could happen to get rid of all your work. So what I do is open a notepad, and type up it all there first; saving often. ~ Right, now for the solution to the problem. I find it best to NOT add the items and questions on the sign up page. Rather, edit them after you have signed on. Here is the process I suggest: Sign up normally, except when asked about items and questions, just ignore. Then, after you register your website address, author name, etc. Go here: http://www.selectsmart.com/FREE/free.php. Edit your selector through here and it will show up.

QUESTION: How can I put cool pics in my selector?

ANSWER: While editing your selector, in the text box type: <img src=http://www.address.of.pic.here.ok> Where "http://www.address.of.pic.ok" is, is where you would type up the address of the picture you want to appear there. If you want it to be a link to the pic, then type this: <a href=http://www.address.of.pic.ok>Click here for the pic</a> ~ So for example, let's say you want to display the pic of the thinking statue that's beside SelectSmart.com in the top left corner. The address for this pic is: http://www.selectsmart.com/images/thnkyell.jpg So if you want someone to be able to click on text and the pic will appear, this is what you would type in the edit box: <a href=http://www.selectsmart.com/images/thnkyell.jpg>Click here</a> to see the pic Now if they click on "Click Here", the pic will come up, but the link stops after </a>

QUESTION: Do I have to get anything to make a selector? Like a program or something?

ANSWER: No. It's all on the site.

QUESTION: I screwed up my answers and questions!! It's all messed! Ahh! Help!

ANSWER: Go here and edit them as you see fit. See http://www.selectsmart.com/FREE/free.php.

    QUESTION: What are items?

ANSWER: They are the answers for the questions. Example: A selector to choose what fruit you like most could have questions like: Do you like red? And then two "items" would be; apple, and orange.

QUESTION: Why isn't my selector up on the main page?

ANSWER: Could be for several reasons. First, there are many submissions for selectors all the time. Look at the board! There's got to be some control, otherwise it will overflow and look sloppy. Also, your selector might not meet a presentable criteria. This means there could be swearing, offensive material, or just very bad grammar throughout the selector. Make sure to proofread your selector and edit it to be presentable. Keep in mind also, that if you're making a selector that has already been done 1000 times, it's not likely yours will be up now.. ~ However, every selector can be found through the "Selector Selector" at http://selectsmart.com/FREE/search/fsa.html

    QUESTION: My head hurts

    ANSWER: So does mine...
