If you believe in hell, how will you be able to enjoy heaven?

If you believe in hell, how will you be able to enjoy heaven?
October 24, 2017 08:24AM
I posed that question on my Facebook page last night, and it set off a rare lengthy and interesting discussion.

I remember a joke about 2 guys. 1 is a complete goody two shoes, the other is the opposite,
but his best friend. They are driving, get into an accedent & die.

The 1st guy goes to heaven. There's the whole deal with stting on clouds playing a harp all day.
He's bored to death (or tears, since he's already dead). He looks down & can see straight down
to hell, where he sees his friend with a beautiful woman on his lap & a beer in his hand.

So he goes to god & says, this can't be right. God tells him, it's ok, the beer can has a hole on
the bottom, but the girl doesn't.

To answer your question, some would say the only way into heaven is to fear hell.

Some of them do enjoy the thoughts of their opponents roasting in hell. If there is heaven, then it is impermanent. So is hell.

But that doesn't answer my question. That has nothing to do with the question I asked. I didn't ask how one gets to heaven.

Well, the only way anyone enjoys heaven is when they get there.
You can tell a person about heaven (or hell for that matter), but it
really doesn't affect what we know & experience (including enjoyment)
till we die.

I find both to be a state of mind here. This is definatly hell

America is plagued with an epidemic

D-K affects nearly every family.

You have to know, the real Dunning-Kruger
effects fake liberals to make them

No matter how many facts you
show them, they don't learn or accept.

Too many people are brainwashed into
believing their political party is benevolent.
While both are deep state knights & pawns.

We need outsiders like Donald Trump.

Do not confuse the Dunning-Kruger Effect

How are they going to enjoy heaven knowing that they have friends and family in hell? I'm referring to Christians who believe that if you don't accept Jesus' blood sacrifice for your sins, you'll spend eternity in hell.

This is why people like catholicz pray for sinners (usually peopl they know)
to be allowed into heaven. Though they believe in purgatory, for people who are
not worthy of heaven to get a second chance later.

Since I don't believe in hell (as a place other than earth) all this wierd stuff
doesn't apply to me. We all come, live, learn & love, then move on.

My question is directed at Christians, usually fundamentalist types, who believe in a literal hell. But since there are none here, it probably doesn't make for a good discussion.

I think we chased away all the fundamentalists after we threatened them last year. LOL! grinning smiley

Curt is right (sorta) according to no less an expert than the Angelic Doctor himself, St. Thomas Aquinas. Aquinas wrote that "in order that the happiness of the saints may be more delightful to them" not only will they know that some people are suffering in hell but that they will be able to see the suffering for themselves!

I add the "sorta" above because, again according to Aquinas, the happiness the Saints get from seeing the Damned suffer lies not in watching the suffering of the Damned per se but in the visual affirmation that God's justice is real.

Any enjoyment of others suffering is wrong.

Being relieved that it is not you is a different story.

Back to the question asked in the title of the thread: If you believe in hell, how will you be able to enjoy heaven?

You could do this by also believing that those in hell are only in hell to begin with as a consequence of their own free will decisions.

But blaming them is just being a dick.

J/K, that was a good point too.

That depends on what criteria for entry into hell you're talking about.

Evangelical Christians believe that if you simply don't believe that Jesus died for your sins, you're going to hell.

Many christians believe that. Those of us who are not christians simply do not care . . . lol.

Some religions have rules & dogmas you must adhere to, as well as being a kind/decent
person. Those are what I call false religions.

True religion is about being yourself, but being kind & loving.
Being natural & still, but not being inactive.
Being at peace, and enjoying the natural world.

You say "simply" as if such a perceived offense is trivial. On the contrary, Evangelicals believe that the non-belief in Jesus is a moral failure worthy of the gravest possible consequences.

If heaven and hell existed, there would be many, many ways to believe in hell yet still enjoy the reward of heaven. The two beliefs, defined in a particular way, may be contradictory, true; but for the vast majority of people who believe in such things there is no actual contradicton there at all.
