Richard White, the machete attacker who created havoc at a security checkpoint at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Friday night died on Saturday at 4:02 p.m. White was a Jehovah's Witness and in accordance with his belief, shunned Western medicine and blood transfusions. During Friday night’s rampage in New Orleans, the 63-year-old man was shot three times.

As reported by USA Today on March 21, White approached a security checkpoint on Friday night, sprayed insecticide, and began chasing a TSA agent while swinging his machete. When White and TSA agent Carroll Richel were near the Concourse B checkpoint, they were close enough so that Lt. Heather Slyve of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office was able to draw her weapon and fire at the apparently irrational man.

Forget about his swinging a machete while chasing someone through an airport, the man was a Jehovah's Witness, for Christ's sake (pun intended), and the article's author says he was only apparently irrational???

They were overly worried about jumping to conclusions and besmirching somebody's reputation. In that same vein, I have noticed with sardonic amusement the occasional misuse of the word "alleged" in news stories. Such as "the shopkeeper was allegedly shot and killed during the robbery".
