This isn't complicated. 2020 is a referendum on Trump.

The job of the Biden campaign is simple, and Trump is helping.

You know you're a racist, don't you?

They made this into a race issue rather than a health issue and as a result we have a MAJOR health issue.

That is not what she sais and even the article in the paper equivalent of Fox News does not say that.

Could we have done it faster? Possibly,” she said.

“That is definitely something that could have happened faster.”

Of course she said that. So could any jurisdiction. And, they all would have if the seriousness had been apparent. It was not. It was not until March 29, that a pandemic was declared. And the declaration was timely and followed the protocols established for a declaration.

So you act once it has already become a global pandemic? Or before?

No brainer here.

"WE" acted long before the declaration. But, if your public health authorities have more than half a collective brain, they don't shut down the country until it is clear. Otherwise, it would have been shut down half a dozen times in the last decade and we would have an economy that is about as productive as it was a hundred years ago and a society without pensions, healthcare, and a Hell of a lot more.

It was obvious in January how rapidly the disease was spreading in China. Given that Canada was a flight away it was a no brainer to stop people moving to and fro between the two countries and subsequently to other countries which the disease was spreading to and to enact strict quarantines for those returning from abroad.

As a result of this obvious FAILURE to take timely necessary action to stop the disease from spreading to Canada we now have the disease across Canada. Over 6000 Canadians have died and we still shut down much of the economy once it had already spread here and as a result we are billions of dollars further into debt than we were before. That is a colossal failure to act on time on the part of the government.

No, it was not. Take your racism away. It is bad enough listening to Trump.

You proved OD's point perfectly. Your insane idea that it is racist to protect your country from a virus, is much the reason why the virus was allowed into Canada and has killed over 6000 Canadians in only a few months (3 times the deaths from 9/11) and added 10s of billions of dollars onto our debt.

Once again, go away. Your ignorance is too much.

Ignorance is thinking that allowing the disease to spread across the country and then shutting down the borders after that fact isn't a pure failure.

There's a point of view I've heard a lot about recently. It's called the prison of two ideas. Meaning that the ONLY two options are to be totally closed, or totally open. No one wants us totally closed (well, maybe a couple). If we do that, there are no groceries, medical supplies, etc. I also don't know of anyone that wants to be totally open with no restrictions, either externally or self imposed.
Re: " Canada waited too long to close borders: Canada's top doc"

But, as we know, there are not just the two choices since we could not survive in a condition of total closure. As you put it.

And you're still in the prison of only two ideas.

You don't need total closure. The Lombard States invented quarantine precisely to avoid that problem. Unfortunately they and North Americans forgot that and now we have been some of the hardest hit as a result.

Even the Chinese had sense enough to use quarantine for incoming cargo ships.

Quarantine goes back thousands of years. Venice was just the first it institutionalise it. And, it never once stopped the spread os an epidemic. It helps and that is all.

It also goes back to the Nazis who used Quarantines to keep the people safe from Jews, gays, "artists," scholars, etcetcetc.

B.S. You want a perfect example? Ebola. We quarantined Ebola and as a result the Ebola epidemic has not spread to Europe or North America like Covid.

Like I have said before, hind sight should only be used as "lessons learned" and not finger pointing. I don't think any person, any nation, or any group did everything as well as it could have been done given hindsight. I think the vast majority of entities did act in good faith. That said, it's up to the voters to actually decide who they felt did the best job. CO hierarchy was vastly unprepared, and has continued to make decisions that are spiteful and petty politicization that are going to kill this state. Hopefully, the voters will remember that in the next election for the executive and legislative branches. We are just now being able to open. Many of the restaurants (a major industry in the area) will not open again. This will decrease county and city revenue and make it harder for everyone to recover. We tried to open (with appropriate distancing, etc) a few weeks ago, but the governor threatened us by withholding promised money to the county.

I think it was obvious at the time what needed to happen.

If you have a disease rapidly spreading in a country that threatens to soon be a global pandemic you take all necessary actions to stop it from spreading to your country from the outset.

You are the shallowest thinker in these forums. Ebola is very different. Where it occurred was far less likely to travel and there was considerable warning. Likely carriers were the medical personnel that were sent or volunteered to help there. But, it also had a sometimes lengthy period of incubation that means that had it first appeared in a more advanced region it would have spread over the world in the way that Covid has.

Here is something you could read about quarantine and the problems It may help you to think a bit.

No the shallowest thinker in this forum is the one who thinks its just fine and dandy for a virus like Corona to spread freely across borders and spreading the infection world-wide with its presence.

Quarantine worked to stop the spread of Ebola. Quarantine and strict border control is the only way that Coronavirus could have been halted from entering and infecting the country.
