Did You Know There’s a Treaty Between the USA & Ukraine Regarding Cooperation For Prosecuting Crimes?

My goodness. It was passed when Joe Biden was a member of the U.S. Senate and then signed by then-President Bill Clinton.

A comprehensive treaty agreement that allows cooperation between both the United States and Ukraine in the investigation and prosecution of crimes.

It appears President Trump was following the law to the letter when it comes to unearthing the long-standing corruption that has swirled in Ukraine and allegedly involves powerful Democrats like Joe Biden and others.

If Trump's conversation with Zelinskyy was as all good, then why did White House lawyers take the unusual and improper step of hiding that conversation on a server designated for only the most sensitive national security concerns, hmm?

Because calls between foreign leaders and Trump were being leaked probably by the IC

Pathetically lame excuse, tuk.

Geez, you really do have nothing.

You didn't answer my question. Why are Trump's lawyers hiding conversations containing no classified information on a server designated for classified information? You're olfactory-challenged if you don't smell something off with that.

There is that kind of treaty between most countries, tx. The reason that is new is because of the recent emergence of Ukraine from the Soviet Union. It is a cooperation between law enforcement agencies not a permission for Trump to start a witch hunt to help his election. There has to be evidence of a crime for one country to pursue it. And it is not initiated by politicians.

It’s actually a really good reason. To hide sensitive information from leakers.

The information he was hiding was not "sensitive". It was embarrassing and actually criminally incriminating. Presidents don't get to classify the evidence of their crimes as so top secret that almost no one can ever get to it.

He committed a flagrant crime, tuk. He released the documented evidence of his crime and even confessed to having committed it. Knowing what he did was a crime, his handlers tried to hide the evidence of his crime from the normal chain of information storage. His minions tried to stymie and curtail the whistle blower's complaint about it from getting anywhere. With the exception of releasing the transcript, everything that he and his people did in regards to this issue were the actions of blatantly guilty people. Releasing the transcript was simply stupid on his part.

You don’t get to decide what is or isn’t sensitive information the president does. If Trump wants to protect calls with foreign leaders it’s well in his purview

Fortunately for all of us, except Trump and his cronies, you are wrong.

United States v. Nixon
United States v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683 (1974), was a landmark United States Supreme Court case that resulted in a unanimous decision against President Richard Nixon, ordering him to deliver tape recordings and other subpoenaed materials to a federal district court. Issued on July 24, 1974, the decision was important to the late stages of the Watergate scandal, when there was an ongoing impeachment process against Richard Nixon. United States v. Nixon is considered a crucial precedent limiting the power of any U.S. president to claim executive privilege.

The Supreme Court does have the final voice in determining constitutional questions; no person, not even the president of the United States, is completely above the law; and the president cannot use executive privilege as an excuse to withhold evidence that is "demonstrably relevant in a criminal trial."

I’m absolutely correct. The call transcript wasn’t subpoenaed he declassified it and released it with the permission of the Ukraine leader. If there are other subpoenaed document you can battle that in court. The president has the right to protect his calls with other foreign leaders

You are arguing against yourself. If it were solely up to the president what can or cannot be protected from congressional scrutiny, then there would be no need for a court battle. So you seem to admit the the president has questionable legal standing if were to block subpoenaed transcripts, recordings, etc. Since the impeachment is likely to focus on allegations of Trump extorting a foreign leader and his asking a foreign leader for dirt on a political foe, thus seeking election help from a foreign country---the exact thing our founders fretted about---it is illogical that Trump could conceal his calls with foreign leaders. Especially after Trump proclaimed repeatedly that his calls with Zelensky were "largely congratulatory", "beautiful" and "perfectly fine and routine".

U.S. v. Nixon is also widely understood to mean that executive privilege cannot be used to cover up wrongdoing. That view was endorsed by current U.S. Attorney General William Barr during his Senate confirmation hearing.

One lesson of U.S. v. Nixon is that an executive privilege claim is particularly weak when Congress has invoked its power to remove a president from office through impeachment, said Frank Bowman, a law professor at the University of Missouri.

In the impeachment context, “virtually no part of a president’s duties or behavior is exempt from scrutiny,” Bowman said. [www.reuters.com]

Obviously, the whistleblower's informants raised a red flag about storing those conversations on that server because they thought it was highly improper. If they thought it was as benign as tuc is desperately trying to paint it, they wouldn't even have mentioned it let alone made a federal case out of it.
