AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SELECTOR II 2000 Election. Beyond the issues
Many visitors to our popular and original, issues oriented "American Presidential Candidate Selector" have asked for a selector that sorts through other important voter considerations, such as the candidate's electability, experience, background and personal conduct. You might think of this as interviewing job applicants. Would you hire any of these candidates?
2. MILITARY SERVICE Nearly all the candidates were young men of draft age during the war in Vietnam. Some candidates served in the armed forces in Vietnam, others opted for stateside duty, others did not enlist. What do you think? No Preference. Give more points to candidates who were closest to the "action" in Vietnam Give more points to candidates who served in the military, regardless of location. Would prefer candidates who did not serve in the military.
3. EDUCATION Most of the candidates are college educated. Many attended Ivy League colleges. How does their education affect your decision? No Preference. Give more points to candidates who attained the highest academic honors. Give the same number of points to candidates who attended any college. Would prefer candidates who did not graduate from college.
4. PROFESSORIAL PRESIDENT Would the fact that a candidate taught at the university level influence you? No Preference Would prefer candidates who had experience teaching a college class. Would prefer candidates who did not teach.
5. AUTHORS Would the fact that a candidate wrote one or more books influence you? No Preference Would prefer candidates who have had the most success as writers. Equally prefer any candidates who have written a book regardless of sales.

6. POLITICAL EXPERIENCE The current candidates have varying levels of political experience. How much or little would you like? No Preference Would prefer the candidates with the most experience, having been elected to the US Senate, US Congress or as a governor. Would prefer candidates who have served in either appointed or elected positions. Would prefer candidates who have served in appointed positions. Would prefer "political outsiders" with no political experience.
7. COMMUNICATORS All candidates make speeches and talk on radio and TV. Some though have made living with their mouths. Would a professional communicator carry any weight with you? No Preference Would prefer the candidates who have had radio or TV shows. Would prefer not to have a professional talker as president.
8. BUSINESS EXPERIENCE Some candidates have business experience, some don't. What do you like? No Preference Would prefer the candidates with business experience, the more the better. Would prefer the candidates with no business experience.
9. HEREDITARY LEADERSHIP Some of the candidates have fathers who held prominent elected office and in one case a military command. Would the candidates early exposure to politics and leadership affect your opinion? No Preference Would prefer the candidates with fathers who have served in high public office. Would prefer the candidates with fathers who have not served in high public office.
10. HEROICS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Nearly all the candidates have accomplishments that most people would be proud to have their resumes. Some have had defining moments that required special levels of courage. No Preference Would prefer the candidates who have exhibited physical and/or moral courage.
11. SCANDALS Candidates, especially the more prominent ones are scrutinized by the press. Embarrassing episodes are sometimes admitted by the candidates themselves but are often just allegations. Rarely are there legal proceedings involved as these "scandals" center on the candidate's judgement, conduct or morals. However, the very fact that their conduct has been questioned, is an issue for some voters. Would prefer to avoid the candidates who have made alleged and/or admitted sexual missteps?
