The facts and quotes in this article would make a good campaign ad exposing Trump's cruelty and hypocrisy.

In comments to reporters before the Monday hearing, Trump spoke about a disclaimer in his financial statements that are at issue in the trial.

Trump said, “We have a clause in the contract, it’s like a buyer beware clause. It says, ‘When you take a look at the financial statement, don’t believe anything you read’ — this is up front. ‘Don’t believe anything you read.’ Some people call it a ‘worthless clause,’ because it makes the statement, and anything you read in the statement, worthless. It says, ‘Go out and do your own research, go out and do your own due diligence, you have to study the statement carefully. Do not believe anything.’”

He said moments later that the clause “immediately takes you out of any fraud situation and any litigation.”

Facts First: Trump inaccurately described this clause, as Judge Arthur Engoron noted in a ruling last week in which he found Trump liable for fraud. The clause does not say “don’t believe anything you read,” its actual language is significantly softer than Trump claimed. And there is no apparent basis for Trump’s suggestion that the clause inoculates him against any litigation at all.

I saw Trump talking about his “disclaimer” not on the news, but on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Same for Trump blathering about “dampening forest floors” which I saw on Jimmy Kimmel; I posted about that.

My point is that late night talk shows are back and all the hosts are eager to depict Trump at his most ridiculous. Trump’s five month reprieve from ridicule is over. The late night comedians don’t just say Trump is a buffoon, they show it with video clips.

Not everybody watches news channels or follows political news. Late night TV provides a service by informing the public about Trump.

The late-night shows returned to television on Monday for the first time in five months, and it seems at least one former president was watching.

“Now that the ‘strike’ is over, the talentless, low rated CREEPS of Late Night Television are back,” Donald Trump ranted on his Truth Social website. “I knew there was a reason I didn’t want to see it settled - True LOSERS!!!”

In another post, he called them “poorly rated and not at all funny” and claimed the shows were a “major” campaign contribution to Democrats.

Earlier this year, Rolling Stone reported that Trump White House officials made at least two phone calls in 2018 to a top Disney executive demanding that the network take action against Kimmel over his Trump jokes.

Late night TV might be back, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone is watching it. Kimmel is the most popular late night show and he brings in less than 2M people.

    Indy,
Kimmel might get “only” 2 million viewer per night, but Fallon and Colbert get similar numbers. Hannity recently averaged 2.6 million viewers, 317,000 in A25-54 and 203,000 among adults 18-49. So late night comedians offer a good counterbalance to FOX.

LOL! Nobody's watching Fox either, Curt. TV audiences are limited mostly to the aged who are dying off fast. 2 million might sound like a lot to a person on the street (who claims to have worked in advertising at one time 🙄) but reality dictates it's about half of one percent of the adult population in the US. Politically it's also pretty insignificant when you consider about 150M people voted in the 2020 general election. It's enough to sell a few Ford trucks - that's about it.
